had to say congrats, been looking out for this thread as we've been wondering whether to start TTC - which would've been a Dec '08 if it had been this month, but can't see me joining this thread now.

sure you won't be on your own too long though smile - and you'll be strawberry, then half a banana before you know it!

This is actually my 2nd dc, am wondering how to rest when ds is a very very active 2yr old!

Hello, I've just had a BFP and worked my dates out as November 12th. It must be the hormones working overtime because that doesn't add up! I have recalculated and now think I'm due on 2 December, which is far more like it!

Applepip, I have a very active 17 month old. Congratulations to us both!

Hello ladies ! I got BFP this morning grin. This is my first DC so am terrified as well as delighted. I think I'm due 2nd Dec too. I'll need you experienced mums to hold my hand and keep me right if that is ok ?
Can you recommend any good books for me to read to get clued up - am a complete novice at this PG business blush

Hello mibbes, congratulations and welcome. You don't need any books, all you need is right here on mumsnet! If you did however want a book I found the NCT book quite good. I think it is called Your Birth Year or something like that. You'll find lots of information on the web so you might want to save your money and buy yourself some lovely body lotion or hand creme for the post birth days!

Hi mibbes, congratulations! Ahh, the excitement of your first one is never forgotten!

You're lucky to have found MN now, I didn't discover it until ds was about 4mo, I was actually listening to midwives & HVs shock! Anyway, I did find the Miriam Stoppard book quite useful but the one llareggub says is good as well!

hi onthefarm & congratulations! How's everyone feeling?

I'm not too bad, very tired but I think that's more to do with ds waking up at 5am ready to start the day <<nods off on pc>>

hello onthefarm is this your first or are you experienced ?
applepip am feeling less pregnant than most months when have been symtpom spotting ! Not a sniff of a symtpom - ocassional tingly (.)(.) but that is it ! Am so disappointed, I thought I'd feel 'different'. Am a bit tired but that is probably due to waking up early and my mind racing so I can't sleep - I hope this wears off soon !
I have been having a look on the web about what I can and can't eat - flip ! There are a lot of my favourites on the 'banned' list sad Oh well I knew there'd be sacrifices, I'm sure it will be worth it in the end !
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By llareggub on Thu 27-Mar-08 13:52:58
I can't sleep either. I feel far more pregnant than I did the first time around but it might be all in my head. I'm definitely going to the loo more frequently and I am so, so tired! Welcome onthefarm...

I feel like I could sleep for England! And am not feeling as pregnant as I did first time around but I think that's because I've found out a bit earlier than last time.

Last night, dh was trying to explain to ds about the baby in mummy's tummy, I said not to bother as he's really not going to understand and then this morning he said 'hello mummy, hello baby' & gave my stomach a kiss!

Hi and congratulations Mibbes, llareggub and applepip. So sweet story about your ds applepip!

Was bit worried might have evap lines after seeing your thread yesterday llareggub, so still want to take another test to be really really sure. It looked negative, but when looked couple mins later, really faint line...!

Mibbes re food you can't eat. I find as soon as I'm pregnant want to eat blue cheese and runny boiled eggs - part of the human condition - wanting what we can't have!

With luck, this will be dc no3 for me.

onthefarm, I had exactly the same thing re lines, looked quite faint but was there. Next day I went and got one of those digital ones which tell you so no trying to figure out if there is a line there or not!

Hi all! Hi mibbes! <<waves>> So as mibbes said I got my BFP yesterday too. I think when I go to the midwife they'll tell me I'm due end of Nov but I'm more or less certain I'm due 5th Dec.

This is no2 for me I've got dd who is 19mo. Feel more nervous this time though!! Maybe coz dd wasn't planned so I just went with the flow!!

Oh by the way mibbes last pregnancy I ate runny eggs all the way through, I think the issue is around sallmonella(sp) but any eggs with a lion stamp mean the hens have had the vaccination. My dd is none the worse for it!!

Not feeling much different altough was very light headed this morning and am preying its not the start of morning sickness as last pg I had sickness every single day for 9 months it was awful!! grin

Thanks DG I was shocked as had a 3 day imp bleed and assumed it was my usual 5 day spotathon until temps shot up ! You were right about temping it is excellent ! Did you see that Scary had a mad BFP last night after having AF !! She is due end Nov though so won't be on here unfortunately.
BSS given that we were cycle buddies I reckon we'll both be told we are due 28 Nov but as I ov'd on 11 March am pretty sure am due 2nd Nov grin. Did you have a particular book you found useful first time around ? Am going to end up with loads but that's the way I like it ! I'd be too scared to eat anything dodgy, but I'm sure I'll relax in a wee while when am less paranoid about being PG. I am questioning everything I eat...oh dear I have a lot to learn !

mibbes, I would say the most important things to avoid are blue/unpasteurised cheese (brie, stilton etc) & pate. Other than that, scoff away!

aahh applepip that is so kind of you thanks ! I have just ordered a whole host of books from amazon so I'll try to read those first !
I have a question for you experienced ladies. I need to pretend to be boozing at the weekend. How do I do that ? Having friends to the house to watch football and need to be 'drinking' otherwise they will guess !

I am so tired and have felt hungry/queasy a few times ! I thought it may all be in my head though, can we really have symptoms so early hmm ? I guess the tiredness is more to do with being unable to sleep as I mentally decorate a nursery, tell my family, choose a pram etc... my brain is doing overtime thinking of everything grin Just remembered earlier we'll have to choose a name, how exciting grin
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By llareggub on Thu 27-Mar-08 22:02:50
mibbes, I'm exhausted too and have quite a few symptoms which led me to do a pregnancy test. It probably isn't all in your head at all!

I can't advise regarding the pretending to drink thing since I haven't had a drink since February 2006 when I found out I was pregnant with my son! I'm still breastfeeding and decided not to drink because of that, although I understand it isn't really a problem. However my son wakes up at 6am so hangovers aren't really very attractive!

Could you claim antibiotics? I really admire people who can keep secrets!

OMG - I can't beleive that there is a dec 08 thread. I had a dec 07 baby - she is prefect! It is a lovely time of year to have one - and just think you'll have your baby before Christmas and so will be able to have a drink or three!!!!!

mibbes, first time around I said I was on antibiotics to avoid questions about why I wasn't drinking. Will have to do it again in a couple of weekends as we're going away with some friends. It is really exciting thinking of everything that's coming though!

Anyway, I'm so tired I'm falling asleep sat here so am off to bed

Have a good night everyone!

Hello happy pregnant women, can I join in?

I've just had a BFP! I thought I'd do it on my lunch break if my period didn't arrive, thoroughly convinced that there would only be one line since I don't have symptoms like I did with ds2, but there it was, a lovely extra line! grin grin grin

By my calculations I'm due Dec 5th. I'm glad I jumped on this thread right at the beginning.

Congrats to everyone, I hope we can be really excellent support for each other over the next nine months.

Hi bcsnowpea and congrats! Mibbes i had a really good book last time that i friend lent me, it was a bit cheesy in places but had a massive section with an in depth week by week thing that i loved. When i find it again i'll let you know the name.

Re boozing. Had a friend who had this prob. She worked round it by saying she was really hung-over whenever she was required to drink! Worked really well, and didn't have to explain why she felt tired/sick. Also heard about this website lono - they sell non-alcoholic champagne/wine/cocktail mixes that look and taste like the real thing, apparently, have no first hand experience.

Did another test this morning, was a cheapie one, but a nice big bright pink line straight away, so feel bit more legit being on this thread!

Hi BirghtShinySun and bcssnowpea, and congratulations!

The only book I ever bought was " What to expect when you're expecting", bit American but thorough. Even has a bit on what to do if you have to deliver the baby by yourself!

Am curious to know who everyone has told that they're pregnant? Dh, my parents and siblings know, but not dd and ds or any friends.

Can I (cautiously) join in? I got a BFP Tuesday, but it was very faint... re-tested today and it was a bit darker so I'm convinced! The caution is that after my DD (who's nearly 3) I've had two missed miscarriages, so I'm quite apprehensive about this one. Anyway, due date is 4 December...

I might not post very often, as I really am quite unsure about this after my losses, but I thought I'd say hello!

goneunderground, hello, this is no3 for us too, what made you change your mind?
Am desparate to tell some of my friends who are pregnant, but seems like the sensible thing is to wait for the scan.
Also if people ask you flat out "Are you pregnant?" before the first scan what do you/will you say?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By goneundergroundtillfamilyknow on Fri 28-Mar-08 09:42:47
Didn't change our mind, apparently minipill not as effective if you are over 11 stone. If I get asked flat out probably tell truth. To be honest I won't be able to hide/deny it as will start to show sooner as it is third time round iyswim.

Hello girls
Mind if I join in?
Me n my hubby were TTC #1 for 2 1/2yrs and I just got a BFP today morn at 5.30am when i had to go to the bathroom n there it was..2 dark lines! I cant believe it! 6 days ago it was just a faint line and i just keep telling myself that it was just an evaporation line.
According to the due date calc, my EDD would be 1st Dec 08 and today would be exactly 5 weeks from my last period.
We are estatic n excited!

Dh & I haven't told anyone at all, not even our parents. We'd much rather wait until the first scan to be sure that everything's ok. We did this for the first one as well & although a few people said they had guessed nobody said anything directly to us so we didn't have to lie!

congrats bcsnowpea, Verso, goneundergroundtillfamilyknow, nandos welcome to the thread.

If anyone asked me if I was PG before I told them I'd assume they meant I was f@t and slap them !

We plan to tell parents and siblings in about 4 weeks time but for now it is great just having a wee secret between the two of us ! Everyone else we will tell after 12 week scan assuming all ok.

My friends and I have a running joke that anyone on antibiotics is soo obviously PG so I'm afraid I can't use that one ! It is my BF coming round and she knows we are ttc so she will be watching me like a hawk.... it is going to be tricky. Think I may hide some non-alchoholic lager in the bottom of the fridge and slyly top my glass up with that instead of the real thing !

OOh am so excited that there are so many of us already ! Should we start a list to keep track ? I'll make up an inital draft but feel free to tell me to bugg£r off if you think it is a crap idea. Other antenatal threads seem to have them and I was used to them in the TTC waiitng room thread.

Hi all. Mibbes the list is a good idea, still feel a bit nervous being on it!!

Is anyone else getting weird pains? To start with they were like period pains which I remember from last time then yesterday they were more like shooting pains which I'm not sure if I remember and now today is more like a dull achey stretchy feeling that I definitley didn't have! Probably just being paranoid but can't help worrying!!

Oh yes, I've had some weird not-quite-like period pain. I'm also looking very fat indeed and before I got into bed last night I swear I looked 20 weeks already. I have also been having very 'distant' AF pains, each time I panic then tell myself it is ligaments stretching so perfectly normal. I also felt quite sick this morning and (TMI!) dry-wretched several times shock. I really hope this isn't the start of ms, although I'd feel more PG if has 'proper' symtpoms iyswim. Hi Mibbes, made me chuckle!
Not sure if have any good advice about ms. When preg with my dd I lived off hula hoops for 3 months - couldn't stand anything else. Not very healthy though. Felt sick/faint this morning and half a banana did the trick. Big salad for lunch (who am I kidding, had "lunch" at about 10:30am!)and that's kept me going...until the doughnuts.

Also I found I have never been sick with last two preg, but just felt sick all day. Have a friend who is due in June, and she was sick loads. Think the trick might be keeping portions small?

I wasn't sick at all last time so cannot offer any tips personally. I do feel quite sick this time and have already been told to eat before I get up. DH not impressed by the thought of bringing me breakfast in bed, I can tell you!

nandos, funny you should mention that. My mother and I have both have flu type symptoms in early pregnancy. Both times I have thought I have had the flu but turned out to be pregnant! My mother had the same thing. The body is odd, isn't it? I think those people that do the temperature taking thing say that temperature does rise in pregnancy, and that some people know they are pregnant just from the rise in temperature.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By applepip on Fri 28-Mar-08 18:34:42
don't know about the temp rise, never experienced that.

Re diet I guess carbohydrates would help. I think things like cheese, pasta, potatoes, rice etc would help you put on some weight but still quite healthy. Though imho pizza & chips doesn't got amiss once in a while wink

I found as well that with ms it helps to keep a couple of digestive or ginger biscuits by your bed & then eat these before you get up.

Most important thing for me is more iron. With ds my iron levels were a little low so I'm trying to eat more green vegetables, drink oj with meals & cut out some caffeine.

Definitely agree about the iron thing. I get low iron levels as well. I have never had the problem of being underweight (rather the opposite) so can't help there but I do find eating little and often helps with sickness so far.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By applepip on Fri 28-Mar-08 18:52:31
I'm the opposite as well, probably a bit overweight. In fact, now I've suddenly switched to healthier food (salads & fruit), junior is probably thinking 'hey, I didn't sign on for this. Where's my coke & chocolate?'!

I've had raging cravings for smoothies. In fact this was one of the things that made me suspect I was pregnant as I suddenly wanted fruit, salad and veg and felt sick at the thought of coffee and chocolate. Wine had the same effect last time but now I don't drink at all!

Does anyone else keep looking at the pregnancy test and wondering if it is real? I did two and they were pretty faint and I keep asking DH to confirm that I am indeed pregnant. So much so he ask told me that he is going to buy another test today just to shut me up!

Regarding morning sickness, feeling faint tec I find that eating little and often helps. Rather than eating 3 large meals I tend to eat 5 small meals each day. Gone off tea and coffee and am drinking a lot of squash.

Hello Ladies, can I join your thread?

I got 2 faint positives on Clearblue and First Response yesterday (CD27) and a positive on Clearblue Digital this morning. The first day of my last period was 2/03/08 so I think that means I'll be due in December. Does anyone know if that's right?

This is my first pregnancy and my husband doesn't want me to get too excited just in case but I really feel like I'd like to talk about it with people in the same situation.

I'm excited and absolutely terrified and just hoping for the best.

I hope it's ok for me to join and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

thx for the info girls...the reason of my low weight might be because i think eating is a waste of time i eat only when im hungry ..that needs to be changed
llareggub - i keep seeing my test every 4-6 hours or so lol..although mine is a thick dark line i still couldnt believe it.

btw anyone started their urine/blood test to reconfirm their pregnancy yet or just go straight to ante-natal check-up? im new to this so pls bear with me blush

I went to see the doctor yesterday because I have a repeat prescription. I wanted to check with him that it is safe to continue through pregnancy. From what he said, and it does vary from area to area, the GP doesn't have any involvement at all. I've just booked in the for the "booking in" appointment with the midwife. This happens in week 10 or so where I live and is where they do the blood tests for hepatitis, HIV, rubella etc. It takes about an hour.

Hi all, can I join? I got a BFP on Thursday morning This will be DC#1 and DH and I are so excited. It doesn't feel quite real yet. I've been really sick since last week but so has DH so didn't think too much of it at the time. I think we're looking at a due date of around 5/12

Since Tuesday I have done 4 tests and 3 out of 4 have been positive. The latest, the negative one, was today. The third positive was this morning and the first two positives were on Tuesday.

I only did the 2 today because I had 2 faint results on Tuesday. TBH I really did not believe I was pregnant (various reasons relating to PCOS) and DH got me the tests today to shut me up.

I did the 1st test today and it looked negative but then a faint result appeared after about 5 minutes. It is a clear blue test. I did another (again, I don't know why) and it is negative.

If I am pregnant I have no idea how many days/weeks I am. BUgger. Was so happy.

congratulations pixsix & phee, nice to see you here. Sorry, I'm useless at working out dates, always leave it up to the dr! I do go to the dr as we have shared care where I live so half of my appts are at the hospital and half at the surgery.

llareggub, don't worry yet, you could still be pregnant. Its probably worth going to your drs and getting it checked.

Thanks applepip, have found an online due date calculator and now think I am due on 7th December.

BrightShinySun I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a very cautiously optimistic dh! I know it is VERY early but it's so hard not to be excited! I think I will go and see the GP next week as I have no idea what happens with midwife/doctors appts etc and I am living in a completely new area so can't even ask friends for info. phee96 have you been to the Dr? Are you going to go?

llareggub, I found the ordinary Clearblue test I did hard to read too (the positive line was really faint) but First Response and Clearblue Digital were much more obvious. Might be an expensive option but maybe try a different brand? Fingers crossed for you.

llareggub just looking at your other thread and i would agree that you definitly cant get a false +ve,also if its possible your less than 14dpo then a false -ve is very common especially if you only waited two hours to pee!grin

That is the most FANTASTIC news!!!!
Was just reading through your previous posts, 2 things: re the overwhelming hunder: the way I look at it is that if your tummy is rumbling etc then you're hungry and you should eat something. Doesn't matter if you only ate half an hour ago, if you're genuinely hungry then eat! Your body is doing some incredible things at the moment, trust what it tells you. And 2nd, Lesley Regan's book which is called somehting like 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week' is excellent. Hope you have a very uneventful 8 months ahead of you!!!
Really thrilled for all of you on here xxx

Hello folks

I did a pg test this morning and it is negative. Actually, the first one didn't work at all so I managed to squeeze out a little more wee to do the 2nd test. So it looks like I'm not pregnant after all. It is all very odd after the positive tests this week and I don't quite know what to make of it all. I haven't had any bleeding or pain so I'm going to go to the doctor next week. Good luck with the rest of the pregnancies, I'll look forward to hearing your birth announcements in December.

llareggub so sorry to hear that. What type of test did you use as there has been a lot of chat about false positives with CB tests lately on the conception boards ? I assume you still have no AF ? If not then probably worth testing in a few days. Let us know how you get on and we'll hopefully see you back in aa few days with a BFP. {{{{hugs}}}} xx

Ilareggub good luck with the doc. I know we've all got our fingers crossed that they give you a BFP.

We told our folks and siblings today, we're both just far too excited to keep a secret! Of course, my only symptom at the moment is excessive peeing, so I have a freak-out every five minutes or so that the tests were lying.

I know it's months and months away, but what kind of births are you ladies thinking about?
My last ended in an emergency c-section, and I was part of a program for non-residents in Canada where I had to do it in a hospital, didn't have a mid-wife etc. I'm looking forward to having a bit more choice this time.

I just wanted to post an update about my negative pregnancy tests.

I made arrangements to have an early scan at a private scan, and was fortunately able to get a scan today. I had an internal scan and sadly the sonographer was unable to confirm a pregnancy. There is a slight possibility that it is too early to spot a pregnancy and there is something in the womb that could have been, or could be, a pregnancy, but she could not confirm. She did stress that it is unlikely.

I have been advised to test again in a week if there is no bleeding, and if positive, to go back for a scan so that she can see if there have been any changes. She did look for an ectopic pregnancy and she could not see any sign.

Obviously as I had a positive test I am looking at the positive side, which is that I conceived naturally, having never done that before. I have removed my name from the list below as I suspect it is likely that I am no longer pregnant. You never know, I may be back, but I shall say goodbye for now. Good luck to you all, and I shall be looking forward to the birth announcements in December!
