Pleased to be able to start the new thread with our birth announcement!
Samuel arrived at 1923 on thursday 20th March, weighing in at 4lb 10oz! After a fraught day of trying to find a hospital with a NNU with a cot (our hospital NNU was closed just as we were about to go to theatre), we finally ended up at Epsom General!
Sam is still in NNU but should be coming off his last little bit of oxygen this evening, is off CPAP, and having a go at bf'ing whenever he can (he's being fed by a tube).
I'm home and feeling a whole lot better than I did last time around, although very sore - TAKE THE PAINKILLERS THEY OFFER!!!!!
Jacob not sure about the new arrival although is smitten with his new scooter
will catch up with posts later but thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and good wishes over the last few days
Huge congratulations! I'm really pleased Samuel is doing so well, 4lb 10oz is a good weight for a preemie and he'll be home with you in no time. Glad you're feeling OK too - enjoy the sleep while you can! And do hang around here until a few of us can finally join you on a post-natal thread!
I have discovered that my sciatica is school run related - I have 2 separate drops in the morning and then pre-school pick-up at 12pm, Reception part-timer at 1pm and normal school end at 3.15pm. Having had 4 days off from it, I'm feeling SO much better. DS1 will go full-time after the delayed Easter holidays so hopefully that will make life a bit easier as I enter the home stretch.

Wonderful to hear from you Flick and congratulations on the birth of Samuel. Great to hear all went well. Hope you continue to recover and that Samuel goes from strength to strength.
I can't wait until this baby arrives. I am with the others who say 'How are we going to get through the next 8 weeks or so?'. I have it in my head that this one is going to arrive before its due date, DD came one week early so why shouldn't this one?
Little snow here in N. Ireland, just flipping cold in the wind. Lovely big bump acts as wind break though. I'm still going for a walk most days but my routes are getting shorter and shorter and I had to take tiny steps up a gentle slope today - I could really feel a head in my pelvis. Lots of non-pregnant people on a narrow path behind me who were forced to walk VERY slowly. I'm telling myself that they wouldn't have been able to tell from behind that I am pregnant and I probably frustrated them ... didn't care! Need a 'Wide Load' sign for back of jacket.
I can't find any nice pyjamas or nighties online for hospital and beyond. They need to let me breastfeed but the only ones I can see are really horrible. Has anybody found any nice ones?

Lovely name, Samuel. Look after yourself and enjoy your little one!
I'm finally on maternity leave...only 4 weeks to go now. Feeling large and lumbering but otherwise well. Off to pick up the moses basket tomorrow and then really need to get the nursery tidied up and sorted and think about my hospital bag. Have started my hypnobirthing CD, hopefully not too late. Getting a bit nervous now!
Flick Congratulations! This whole pregnancy lark has just got a lot more real!
Mocat I have pyjamas a bit like these which are pretty comfy but I haven't quite worked out what's going on with the straps yet! Mine are spotty and a bit cheaper but couldn't find them online. I also have these which are amazing now, they come up over my bump, but might look a bit silly minus bump. Hope that helps a little. I do really like both pairs and pyjamas are important to me!
pinacolada82 I've had arnica for every bump and bruise since I was a child, my mum's a big believer in it and so am I. I really think it helps and definately not just for caesareans! Some chemists are so snotty about anything herbally so just ignore them, it definitely won't do any harm. Thanks for cheering my count down, I'm ridiculously excited about seeing him again (and also that'll mean it's very nearly baby time too!)
Has anyone ever tried a Close baby sling? I really want one but they're very dear, following a few on ebay but they keep going for too much. They're here if anyone wants a look, I think they look fab. Great for festivals with baby this Summer (only semi-joking!)
congratulations flick!!! - Have started my 6 week countdown today and have begun my humungous countdown lists - headed "Nursery", "baby 0-3mnths", "hospital bag - me" and "hospital bag- baby" - I had forgotten how much stuff is involved!!! Mocat - just bought men's button PJ's From M and S - they were perfect!
macaco - hurray for maternity leave! hope you enjoy your first day! as for pjyamas etc, i have bought these from next to labour in - altho they prob wouldnt be suitable for breast feeding, but im bottle feeding so didnt need to take that into account. Ive also ordered these for hospital after.
baiyu - did you take the anrica tablets or the cream? the ones she gave me were tablets you chew which im a bit dubious about as i thought you swallowed them and im scared to try them incase they make me heave lol
does anyone know when you start taking the arnca tablets?
Hey all - I tried to join this ages ago but see I am not on the list - do I need to add it myself? Sorry I am a bit rubbish/new to MN and still trying to get my head around these strange customs. Anyway, my EDD is May 10 - first baby, a girl.
Have started with perineal massage (ouch!) and raspberry leaf tea this week. There seems to be some confusion over when to start RL tea but I am in week 34 so hope its not too soon.
Thanks baiyu, Coolmama and pinacolada82 for the great pj advice. It was good to be able to take a look too, thanks. I'm going to order some stuff today.
Had the oddest night's sleep. I make a point of not eating before I go to bed as it just gives me heartburn and a wick night's sleep. But now I'm waking at about 5am and I'm starving. My tummy is rumbling so loudly that it wakens me up! I had my first breakfast at 5am, a second breakfast after 7am and then more at 9! What is happening to me? Am I turning into a hobbit or is the baby piling on the pounds and I'm just responding to that? I have not been eating at this pace so far. Is this happening to anyone else?
baiyu - lots of sympathy for the mum stress thing....it's just crap isn't it?? You really look forward to seeing them, then they just ruin it all be being, well, you know, just a MUM!!!! (Obviously we will NEVER be like this when we are older ).
fleurie Yes I get rib/numb/tingling at top of my bump, only ever on the right. I'm assuming it's baby pressing on nerves (anything nervey presents as tingling or numbness). I find lying on left side helps, and since reading all the posts on here, raising my arm too!!
mocat or anyone interested in pyjamas, I got some really fab ones from M&S that were only £10, great for summer, strappy sleeves, and 3/4 length bottoms. The straps are elasticated lace, so you can just pull the top down under your boob to feed, I found them really comfy, and excellent for feeding, and I even wore them in that super hot summer in 2006. I think they still sell them, they come in pink, mint green, black and red I think. Will try and add a link though never done it before.... My DD was a week early too, so I am assuming this one will be early too, well, hoping. Just a week or two.
flick welcome to the world little Samuel. I'm glad all is well, and hope he continues t thrive how you say he is. Look after yourself. XXX <<hugs>>
Well girls, tonight I am going on a 'DATE' with DH!!! We are going to see the new musical production of 'The Wedding Singer' film. Have to travel about an hour to Reading Theatre, but MIL is having DD OVERNIGHT(!!!!) so we will have a lovely lie in tomorrow (DH on 4 days off). Shame hanky panky is a bit tricky these days, although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to just try......
Just bought my neworn size nappies in Tesco, so I will start getting my bag together now. If on time, only about 5 weeks to go....!!! Now I have finished work I just keep thinking about my new baby and getting v excited.
kangaandroo Yes, Denny is my 'regular MN user'. She is one of my very BF's from uni, and we often crash each others threads to see what we are up to!! Anyway, I have emailed you now so you can email back what you think the name is!!! Hee hee!!
Well, I 'd better go and have my power nap so that I can stay awake during the show tonight.....oh yeah, and we are going out for dinner too!!!! better take some Gaviscon with me .
Oooh enjoy the show GCG!!! very envious!! lol shall go an email you now lol
Chemists have to cover their backs with herbal stuff...hth
Baiyu.....the pjs from BM...are they a two pack??? think theyre the cheapest ive seen so far if so. Can you believe that nowhere around here does button front pjs...normal or in maternity!!!!!
Congratulations flick - I love the name Samuel and I am so pleased he is doing well. Take care of yourself and can we see pictures?!?!
Hi Yankunian - people just copy and paste the list, putting whatever details they like, and I expect you were added at some point and then you were missed off the next time it was posted - I've done that and I think it made someone on here want to throttle me, but it wasn't on purpose! sorry! I am starting Raspberry leaf tea this week too, and I am due two days before you, so pretty mush the same. Are you biulding up the wmount you take slowly? I have been googling to find out all about it...
pinacolada - so pleased you are not a stresshead any more!!! so, do you only take the Arnica after the birth? As does it bring labour on? i have some too and was told by the woman in Holland and Barrett to only take it after birth.
I am reading a pg book at the moment which is going on about the cervix being ripe, and making me wish I could be my own midwife and see what the cervix looks like when it is unripe, ripe, and dilated - i am getting fascinated! (Shame DH isn't {hmm})
Lots of love to mums and bumps, and flick and baby! JBR xxx
I've put you on the list Yankunian. Please anyone whose details are missing or wrong - I'm sorry!!!

BTW, you're not too early to start RL tea, so don't worry.
My birth notes will read something along the lines of 'No-one touch me'. I was mighty fed up of being prodded and poked by untold people, so I don't want anyone near me this time around. May write in in a big red marker...
babylove - lol at your post! i didn't get what you meant until i read what you had posted on the old thread! pmsl at you having hospital examination with band of hair!!!!
Happy birthday Baby Samuel !! Many congratulations, i was most suprised, i didnt know.
Mocat Primark have got t shirt style nighties lots to choose from colour/pattern AND they have press studs down the middle, i'm hoping they go low enough to enable breastfeeding cause they are only £4 each !!!!! I was lucky and got a pair of winnie pooh strappy top pyjamas in the mothercare sale for £10.50. they have the hidden support as well as nursing straps Primark have also got some velvet zip front tops for £5. I have got one of those in favour of a dressing gown.
youcanonotbeserious fruit and raisins, hmmmm here i have dairymilk and dairymilk lol. Weighed myself yesterday for the first time since i got the BFP and i have gained exactly 1 stone in weight. I was quite suprised because it feels a lot more than that.
babylove - my nan used to use Manuka honey and she thought it was great. I saw some research on it recently and the benefits of it are brilliant - it really is an amazing product - clever Mother Nature!
Thanks for adding me you two! I will now know what to do the next time... argh, don't even want to think about the next time.
Yes, JackBlack, I am starting RL tea gradually. it's actually the third trimester tea from Earth Mama Angel Baby, which has all sorts of other good herbs in as well. I quite like the taste, but I hope it works better than their heartburn tea (which didn't do much for me.)
OMG - we have a baby on the thread! congrats flick and welcome to baby Samuel, lovely name, glad to hear he is doing well.
DP and I have had the day off to ourselves (we meanly put DS into nursery as he would normally go) and we have done loads, packed the hospital bags for me and lo, car seat and moses basket out the loft and covers washed, been out for a grown up lunch and DP has surprised me with - my own homebrew! I was complaining that I couldn't bear the thought of Guiness or Maccesons again during bf so he has made me my very own "chocolate stout" it will be ready in about 4 weeks (when she will prob be here) and I can have a little glass a day to help with iron levels etc - it smells yummy (he has just put it in a keg)
Pinacolada, yup tis me who is going to ask for a csection at 37 weeks - appointment with my fab consultant is on Thursday, so fingers crossed.
nighties - I got 2 from Matalan, they're not that pretty but they did for hospital, when I got home I just wore a nursing bra and pj trousers in bed as I was very warm (even though it was winter!)
GCG - hope you had a wicked time in Reading on your "date"
RL tea - didn't need it last time, if the doc doesn't agree to my section, I will start it at the weekend (35 weeks)
Podglet - if you don't mind me asking, why are you asking for a C section?
I'm still trying to decide which route to go, IYSWIM. I don't have any medical reason, but my DH works abroad and I'd like him to be there and he can only take Mondays or Fridays off...
Hi Youcannotbeserious, of course you can ask! I'm asking for a section because I have problems with excess amniotic fluid. With DS the excess fluid made me much bigger than my dates - measured 43 weeks at 36 and my body couldn't take it any more so my waters went at 36 + 5. I then endured 2 days of failed induction before an extremely traumatic emergency c section.
This time I am more clued up and am asking for a section because I can't bear the thought of messing about for days with poor DS to consider as well. The doc has already said that this one will be early because of my scarring from last time and the extra stretching again, plus he won't induce me because I had a failed induction last time. So I have decided to take the stress of not knowing away and ask for the section!
Sorry that was long winded but hope it helps. They don't like elective c-sections in my neck of the woods (north essex) but if you argue hard enough, they give in!
Hi, we've been busy making snowmen all weekend- I think DD has made 3 or 4 ( tiny wee ones). When I lived in Canada we made snow easter bunnies ( with food colouring easter eggs/footballs) but my mum only reminded me of it today, otherwise we'd have introduced DD to snow easter bunny! We haven't had that much snow, but DD has been up early every morning and the snow has been ok til midday... Congratulations FLick! So glad things are going o and hope Sam will be home soon. Fingers crossed for you all. For feeding pjs I got special one with drop straps last time, but didn't find it comfortable having boob completely out to feed, when I was way too hot to have a layer on top (middle of winter!) and just wore ordinary pj tops/ t-shirts and fed 'up and under', usually with nursing bra. So just going to wear my own pjs this time around too, not getting anything special. I also got to tescos, and got CTN breast pump- I can't actually believe its so cheap at half price (I wouldn't have bought another pump if it wasn't so cheap, but some of the plasticky rubber bits on my avent pump are looking worn and I worry it might not last)and it even has an adaptor with it so my avent bottles fit it no problem. The CTN bottles are really wide with quite unique teats (they had a pack of 3 half price too, so I got some to play with )but going to that section reminded me how expensive teats are so just hope I won't be using too many! Finally, I usually only complain about my mum and how she winds meup, but today we had a day out together in Skipton and it was lovely! She even bought me some (really surprisingly nice!) tops I think I'll be comfy feeding in, and wedidn't fall out once- practically unheard of. And, we got back early enough so I could have my nap before picking up DD from childminders- perfect day!I have to write it down as its so unusual for us, andreally sorry for everyone who has mums/mil winding them up. Take care all, keep scoffing the chocolate!
wow its been busy on here today, and for once im not to blame!
babylove21 - rofl at hairy fanjo situation, and yes, ive had plenty of days like those!!
GCG - hope your date with dh went well, sounds like a good night out! good luck with the hanky panky you're a braver woman than me - im saving that as a last resort to getting the baby out (and only if im desperate lol)
JBR - are your arnica tablets chewy ones too? also, can see your point about wishing to know if your own cervix is ripe - this reminds me of something ive always wondered - dont know if anyone can help here.... how do the midwifes know how many cms dilated you actually are? is it all guess work or do they get a tape measure up there??!! surely it all estmiation so cant be terribly accurate??!! perhaps a strange thing to wonder about but me and my pregnant friend were discussing it the other day!
blobsmummy - so when do you start the arnics tablets then, is it just for after the birth? lol at your birth plan, i like it!
podglet - good luck for thurs. ive actually been sent to see my consultant tomorrow as my midwife thinks i have the excess fluid thing that you have (sorry cant even begin to try and spell!!! poly...amnio....????) do they scan to diagnose it?
youcannotbeserious - im constantly thirsty too - ive been meaning to ask if anyone else was! presume it doesnt mean anything sinister?! only i find it odd as before pregnancy i could get through the day on one glass of juice - have never been a big drinker even as a child. now i need a drink nearby constantly. also, im thinking tomorrow of asking about elective cs as i am very worried that my dh wont be at the birth becasue of his difficult work situation - but im fairly confident they wont accept this as a reason unfortuntely.
mumofk - glad you had a lovely day with your mum
well on the subject of mums, the saga of mine contines today and she has sent me an email (we have a strange relationship and she doesnt live near) which has infuriated me and having been sick of listening to a load of crap and keeping quiet for so long i flipped out and sent her a very honest account of how i feel about certain things. im not feeling a bit remorseful about email as it was quite harsh, but i keep telling myself it is better to have been honest and say how i feel. although i know i will have upset her... this wont make any sense as no one knows the background so i will stop babbling now!!
Sorry for pasting this back in again!! RLT new one on me and off to the shops to hunt it down - anything that'll help or that I think will help! Anyone used a TENs before? Thinking of trying it out as want to stay at home for as long as possible before hitting the hospital...
Thanks folks!

Due May 2008 - Birth Announcement List!
20th March - flickthelittlefireengine, Samuel, 4lbs 10oz
Hello lovely ladies well its been sooooooo busy on here i can hardly keep up and im usually the one posting everyday!! well im still feeling sorry for my self! i can't believe how FAT i am my arse has expanded ten fold and ive grown massive love handles i look and feel like Mr Blobby!!!!!!!!!
Reading throw all the posts just makes me wish we all lived closer so that we could go out for coffee and have a really good chat about everything altho this is the next best think !!
FLICK Massive congratulations to you and your family on the safe arrival of Samuel im so please that you are all doing well lots of love to you all and please keep us posted xxxxxxx
BabyLove21 I got my DH to sort out my hairy bits he did a really amazing job and to be honest it turned out to be a really sensual experience !! but i suppose that it helps that im still just as much of a nymphomaniac as i always was !! Oh and i also get thoughts totally crap days to i fell over whiles on a walk with dd and DH and only just managed to maneuver myself so that i fell on my side and not my bump this was on Monday and im still really sore down my left side.
Pinacolada82 Hi Hun what strength Arnica did they give you i bought mine from boots and the chap said that 6c was stronger than 30c but have since herd that this might be wrong but i can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone most annoying. I think that you should only start taking it after the birth to help with all the bruising and soreness(la la la im not going to remember that bit la la la)xxx
GCG hope you had a lovely night out and that you managed to have a good try at the romantic bit.
Podglet AHHH your lovely DP making you chocolate stout that so nice ! xx
Well ladies im of to the MW today for a routine check my original midwife had emigrated to OZ so i have no idea who i will be seeing today but there you go.as i mentioned earlier i manged to fall over on Monday so im actually looking forward to going and getting checked out altho i do feel fine and baby is moving around as normal.
sweetbean how nice that your DH did that for you.. I had to ask mine to cut my toe nails recently (having a few problems reaching my feet!) and he was horrified - pedicures for me in future!!
GCG - hope you had a lovely date!!
Podglet - What is chocolate stout like? Lovely of your DH to make it for you, but I don't think I've ever heard of it before....
* the smaller the dose, the more potent it is (the law of infinitesimals)
* Adhering to the law of infinitesimals, remedies are created through a dilution process called "potentization." The first step is to make an extract from the healing substance. Next, a tincture is created by adding alcohol. Single drops of tincture are repeatedly diluted with water to create the different potencies seen on labels. Common potencies are 6X, 12X and 30X (30 being the most dilute) and 6C, 12C, and 30C ("C" solutions are 100 times more dilute than "X" solutions). But remember that in homeopathy, the smaller the dose--that is, the greater the dilution-the higher the potency. So a 6C remedy is stronger than a 6X, even the 6C is far more dilute.
And remember......DON'T actually touch the tablets themselves with your pinkies as the medicine is 'coating' the tablet
I used last time the 30c, and it comes in a little dispenser (like sweetener) that you can click and pop the pill straight into your mouth. I only used it after the birth.
Feeling thoroughly awful today, as I've only slept 3 hours - and that was broken into 2 hours between midnight and 2am, and then 6-7am. Thank goodness for 24hr TV! My head is sooo fuzzy - looking forward to leaving work at lunchtime and going to bed (once DD is in bed).
Pinacolada - mw's check how dilated you are by giving you an internal examination. They insert a couple of fingers, and by experience they know how dilated you are by how wide apart they have to put their fingers to feel the edge of the cervix. They tend to be pretty accurate. They wait until a contraction is over, and they will always ask/let you know when they want to check you - you won't suddenly find yourself with a midwife's hand up your bits without warning! Hope that helps!
Morning all!!! Guess why I'm smiling this morning girls?? !!!! Not bad for nearly 35 weeks hey??? Very enjoyable, and doing much better than last time when we stopped all that business at 30 weeks cos of my SPD. sweetbean, glad to hear you are a nymph too (your words, not mine!!!) I also got DH to help me out in the 'hair' dept. Can't say I found it sensual but it was a lot easier for him to get to than me!!!! (blimey, hope all that wasn't TMI for you all....think I'm still riding high on adrenaline from my naughties!!!)
Had a lovely time last night. We had dinner at ASK then went to the show, which is really fab by the way, if it's anyone's thing?? I would recommend. Think it's on www.weddingsingerthemusical.com This morning it was VERY strange not having D at home with us, but we just lazed in bed chatting (etc!!!!) until 9am, which felt like how 12pm used to feel pre-kids!!! DH went to get DD as he was missing her so much and we are all back at home now .
kangaandroo!!!! Yes, you are right with the name!!!!!!!! Keep it to yourself!!!!! I'm really thinking it's a girl now anyway, but just in case!!
pinacolada sorry to hear about all your mum hassles. Hope the email didn't cause too many problems???
littledee Yes I used TENS with DD (that and gas and air). I found it very good. I have given them out to several patients and it tends to be something that either works or doesn't work for you, IYSWIM. There are companies (like Boots I think) that hire them out. Maybe try one out and see what you think?? It's an odd sensation and not everyone likes it. Quite an intense tingling. The idea is that the tingling sensation is a stronger sensation than the pain sensation you are feeling, so it 'over-rides' the pain message getting to the brain. I found it good, but tbh, hard to tell as I don't know what pain would have been like without it???? Your local physio dept might also be able to loan you one, might be worth ringing them and asking, you might need your GP to refer you but ring and check. Hope that helps.
I got my arnica and rasp leave capsules yesterday too, in H&B. The woman said not to take RLT capsules til 36 weeks??? It seems there is a lot of mixed messages. My arnica is 30C. Blimey, it's all so confusing!!! And what was all that about NOT touching the tablet...???....can you run that by me again please???
Been nesting a bit today, just sorting and tidying....have decided I want the two bathroom floors tiled......and still want the kitchen and downstairs loo painted.....we are gonna be very busy!!! LOL!!!
Right, best be off. Oh yeah, re thirst and drinking, remember ladies that by this stage our blood volume has increased by 50% (I think) so we need more fluid....I am TRYING (but failing) to drink 2L of water a day, usually manage 1L. It's so hard with a baby trampolening in your bladder.
Got my work leaving do tonight, another meal out!! Making the most of it before D day!
Hi Girls - Not posted in ages but great to read all your news. Not long now eh?!
Huge congrats Flick - Samuel is a lovely name; wishing you all the best.
Have to say I am mightly confused by all the recommendations re when to take Raspberry leaf tea and when to take the tablets. I understood that you could drink the tea from 34 weeks and the tablets from 36 But now i'm not sure!
I went to my GP this morning and so far touch wood no sign of pre-eclampsia (i have to go every two weeks for BP as my mum almost died from it and my Gran had it before her) - so I am feeling tip top. Spent Bank holiday weekend at my Mum's with bad oedema in my hands, wrists, legs and ankles but since I have been back home I haven't had a problem. I think there is a lot to be said for keeping moving. My Mum kept telling me to put my feet up but I reckon sitting still made it worse. From now on I am going to remain active and only put my feet up for a couple of hours after lunch/at the end of the day.
Sorry that was boring for you all! Just wondered if anyone else is having similar thoughts/experiences on swelling?
Also although I am only 32 weeks my GP said that she thought the baby was 4/5ths engaged this morning...eek - does that mean I only have 1/5th to go before its fully engaged and is that too early?! Anyone else have this?
Pinacolada - sorry to hear about your mum hassles, mine is really doing my head in at the moment and sadly for no real reason, think she just rubs me up the wrong way. I feel guilty all the time when I moan about her cos really she is very supportive. Its just that I am an only child (pre-eclampsia fits ended in stroke and she was told not to have anymore kids) and she gets very jealous when I spend time with my DH's family. She also rings A LOT! The other night she left a lighthearted message on the house phone and rather than waiting for us to call her back immediately called my mobile and then my DH's where she left a message saying she was worried, where were we, was everything alright etc!! I dread to think what she will be like nearer my due date, I won't be able to go to the toilet without her thinking I am in labour and driving two hours to the labour ward! ARGH!!! Moan over, now I feel guilty again!
Loads of love to you all - I wish we could all just meet up for coffee, i often wonder what you all look like! xx
mum2scrap - i had pre-eclampsia with my DS 13 yrs ago and have weekly midwife appmts, and i check my urine for protein, so far my swelling is minor and my blood pressure is high but steady so fingers crossed like you! i just wanted to say, i am active then i rest, throughout the day, and this is best for the swelling. do you get pain in your back/bum/pelvis too? i am wondering if this is SPD or if it is related to the pre-eclampsia riak... also i find that if i have my legs higher than my body for a bit each day that helps, i use lots of cushions on my bed. fingers crossed for you too! JBR xxx
Thanks Jack Black Roady - I do get lower back pain but thought that was just related to the baby's head moving down - or as the GP wrote in my notes 4/5ths engaged! A little freaked by this if I'm honest - only 32 weeks pg! Will try your mix of activity and rest I think and will definitely put my legs higher than my body every now and again. Thanks for the tips. Good luck to you - hope your BP remains steady! xx
Mum2scrap - I was trying to remember which way round it is for the head being engaged, but it's kind of opposite to what it sounds like. I found this on ivillage website:
To find out if your baby's head is engaging into the pelvis, the midwife feels how much of your baby's head is lying above your pubic bone. The way in which a midwife records engagement can be a bit confusing if you're not a midwife. If she can feel four fifths of the baby's head, she writes down 'four fifths', but this actually means that your baby is only one fifth engaged.
If she can feel two fifths of the head above the pubic bone, the baby is three fifths engaged. If she can feel one fifth of the baby's head, she writes down 'one fifth' and the baby is four fifths engaged. If she can't feel the baby's head at all, the baby would be fully engaged.
Pinacolada - yes i agree with whoever said you should be drinking more, I've started taking a bottle of water with me when i go out if I remember as I feel thirsty a lot.
I think you should start taking arnica tablets as soon after the birth as possible.
Littledee- I used a tens machine last time, not sure how much it helped, thinking I may not bother this time.
GCG - think i know what your boys name is too, i was looking through my baby names book the other day and came across the description you said it means, don't worry i'll keep it quiet!
My midwife said not to take raspberry leaf tablets before 37 weeks, i.e. officially full term, but seems everyone's being told different things!
Indigo Blue - you star thanks for posting that info - not surprisingly I understood it to mean the opposite, why can't they just be logical in these decsriptions?!
Well midwife appointment turned in to a bit of a nightmare as apparently because im rhesus neg and DH is positive i should have gone straight to the hospital! so now have an appointment first thing tommorrow for an Anti D injection and she has taken blood to be analized.
What a bloody fuss and i seem to remember that thoughts of you who have had the injection said it bloody well stings!!!and i hate needles!!!! I know its best for the baby and am kicking myself that i didn't think about it before!
I have used the rasberry leaf for pregnant animals, and in the instance of cats early births do not survive as with human babies. I was advised not to give rasberry leaf until into that zone of time that would be safe if labour was to start.. it is believed or at least i was told it can start premature labour if given too early.
I'm interested in buying some Arnica for after the birth but dont know where to go for it. I know ainsworths ( online) are great but they dont seem to have a smiple a-z of products just a rememdy chart.
Having lots of braxton hicks today, funny how i really dont ever remember having them with my other two.
mum2scrap i dont think having head engaged early always means early birth. look on the bright side your baby must be futher away from your ribs and that can only be a good thing lol. My baby has moved from the right side to the left. I think i now have bum by left ribcage and head still down, little hands tweaking all my bits! ahh.
I read all this stuff about optimum positioning, but where can i read it in simple terms ? i know my baby is now head down but what about the rest of it, where should that be ? IYSWIM
Had a great easter break, but I'm now very very sore.
I think baby must've moved down - my bump no longer sticks out at a right angle but looks very low and I have to waddle!
Took my first raspberry leaf tea tablet today - I'm 36 weeks now so I figure it's all systems go!
Bought some gorgeous slinky b/f pyjamas in the Mothercare sale for hospital - will pack my bag this weekend I think.
A good friend had her wee boy yesterday 9lbs 2oz, called Daniel - her photos are just scrummy!
You know how sometimes you see other people's new baby photos and the baby's all scrunchy and you want to say how gorgeous they are, but they're just like an old man? Well this wee boy is nothing like that - he's all round and plump and yummy with beautiful eyes! I'm so glad I'm very preg already or dh wouldn't stand a chance
Could we have a reminder of where everyone is in the world? We don't have to be too specific, but I'd love to get a better idea of where we're all from
I'll start:
