I am due to give birth at the end of May this year... it's my first child and, though I'm 35, I'm pretty clueless!!
My husband works away Monday to Friday so I am struggling to find any ante natal classes, as I don't have a partner. I am booked on a one day course in April, but would really like to find a weekly course where I can meet people..
I'm in the Hemel Hempstead area... Can anyone suggest anything?
Your Midwife should be able to point you in the direction of some groups you can attend.
I'm not in that area but would think you should have some ante natal swimming classes locally which run every week. Not parenting classes as such but great for meeting mums to be in your area.
Thats OK, I'm a 'hermit' myself and probably really only exist on MN and not in RL anymore since I spend most of my time on here So, in that sense, I'm probably not the best person to answer your question.....
I should be asleep! I have to go to work early tomorrow!!!
I have taken your advice though and checked out some links. Haven't found any swimming classes I could get to yet (only ones were mid week and I have a less than helpful employer!!!) but I did find a birth cafe in Kings Langley so I am going to give that a try!
I'm afraid I am a bit of a hermit too... I don't usually mind, but have been feeling a bit more isolated now I'm expecting!
Oh yeah, kids are great for making you feel isolated - strange but true.
I think I had a small social life before I had mine (seems so long ago I can't remember ). I didn't go on maternity leave until I was 40 weeks with DD1 so it was a pain that all the antenatal stuff was mid week . Its really helpful to get new mum friends who are expecting at the same time as you. With DD1 I was very isolated, I made (a little bit) more effort to mix with other mums when DD2 was born and that made it all so much easier. Have you looked to se if there are any mums on here who are local to you.
I have no idea what a 'birth cafe' is!!! Sounds like it should have easy clean floors though . I am in Cornwall so we don't have things like that
Week 40 . Just didn't want to sit around waiting at home. Was certain she would be late but labour started on due date - she was born 3 days later (yay ).
Yeah, you have plenty of time yet to find new mummies. My DC3 is due in May. Have you been on the due May 08 thread yet? It's sooo busy on there I can't keep up with all the gossip.
KacyB - I'm 30 and due 5th May, and lives just outside HH (Apsley). I know the birth cafe you're talking about, though haven't been there - did you go and what was it like?
It's my first and I'm pretty clueless too - fancy coffee sometime?
KacyB - email me on casserole.mumsnet@googlemail.com if you're interested in meeting up with me and a couple of other MNetters for coffee in the next few weeks
