Hello ladies can I join you? Found out yesterday that we're having twins (had clomid and they run in the family!). Bit surprised as consultant at 7 week scan said there was definitely only one but hey ho. DD 2 and a bit so in for a busy time of it.
Happy but slightly overwhelmed mummy smile

MM so lovely to hear such positive thoughts, after a very uncomfortable night and slow waddle to drop off DD at nursery it's nice to have something to look forward to.

I have done the deed and started a new thread in the Multiples area, hope that's OK and you'll all join me here. <<pleading emoticon>>

Thank you mel, anjix, mm and getting bigger for the kind messages. Cheered me up after I burst out crying this morning as DS1 went off to nursery. Normally love my time to get things done on his nursery day (and have endless paperwork to do with flat sale) but couldn't bear to see him go today. Oh those pesky hormones. Sadly we're in London and family spread across the globe - parents in Italy a lot of the time but MIL though she lives in Warwickshire is very helpful and willing to come down when she can, but they run a b&b so it's hard to do it regularly. Getting bigger - I am so sorry about your DH's accident - I hope you are all ok, what an awful thing to happen, not what you need as you head towards the finishing line, I have been to yoga, does me good I think, shame not to see you there, but can totally see why. Good idea to move to the multiples thread. Brilliant to hear mm is having a ball, that is inspiring!

Hello pregnant ones! Greetings from the other side. My twins are nearly two now (pink and blue), but this is a nice cosy thread so hope you don't mind me just jogging alongside you a while! It sounds like you're all doing brilliantly! It's so horrible, those last weeks, it's funny cos I was going through all that at this time of year two years ago and somehow keep getting strange reminders of it because of the time of year. To the one whose partner travels a lot and mum is far away, (my situation too), you are doing the right thing in looking for help. The website Gumtree has always been the best bet for us, though you have to kiss a lot of frogs (eh, Pazza?) and look at a lot of pictures of sinisterly grinning nannies with hapless babies squidged up against them - and a lot of very wierd spelling too! Best wishes to you all x

My, look how long my thread has got [proud emoticon]! Yes, I think moving to the multiples board would be a good idea.

Hope you are all well and getting excited about your DTs. Mine are six months old now, I can hardly believe it, and are just wonderful.

BTW I have the MB and I love it, had the double carrycot which was fab, it is easy to maneovre (SP?) but quite awkward to get in and out of the car. I can do it on my own but it is easier if DH is holding one end and me the other. Trying to get it in and out of the car with the carrycot on was a nightmare (and it took up a lot of space!) but it was worth it.

jus poppin in. nell, my parents have helped a lot, they come 3-4 days per week, also dh is still on paternity and my ds goes tp playschool 4 mornings per week, so i've had a ball so far. tbh, the last weeks of pregnancy were so hard that actually havinbg them feels a lot easier and i am so much happier.

really enjoying them, tho still surreal that there's 2! greedy guzzler mirissa has caught up her brother's weight in just 13 days. he is still slightly under birthweight, about 6lb4 and she has put on 7oz!!!

Barbarella Hello there supermum. So happy for you. This multiple thing is amazing isn't it?

Balamoraybaby congrats on b/g. Sometimes I feel as if I should have had b/g. I have id girls and somewhere I saw layettes that said "1 of 1" and "1 of 2". haha. Anyways this is about you. enjoy!

NellStar sending you all the calm vibes I can find.

I am hanging in there one day at a time. This pregnancy is really draining. Picked up some knitting and painting to pass time productively.

Hi Nellstar, was wondering if you were OK. Sounds like you've been very busy incubating efficiently - 90th percentile is amazing. Poor you! Have you been to yoga recently? I think it's too far for me to drive now, so I'm resigning myself to the ones more locally. Sorry to hear about your stress with housing and cars, we are in the middle of negotiating the write-off cost for our car after my DH's accident (he's fine now), then have to decide on the next one too. Looks like the frontrunner is a Delica at the moment, more like a minibus but then I guess that's because we're a big family!

wow nellstar, 90th centile is fantastic, mine were on the 12th at 24 weeks (such a worry) and are now 36th and 37th. you must be eating something good. i am working hard to keep their weights up but have gone off all food, so i have to make a huge effort.
luckily we didnt have to move but finding a new car was terrible. i do really feel for you as moving is so stressful let alone when you are pregnant. we moved when i was heavily pregnant with DD1 and DS1 was small. i hope you have loads of family to help.

tallulahbelle, its a good price, personally i havent tried one but i know they drop in value (hence the great secondhand price) i have a friend from nursery who had one and she used to put it in the MPV all in one as she found it really hard to fold but there might just be a knack to it. go and have a look and see what you think.

Hello all, fantastic buggy advice Mel, brilliant and so useful. Huge congrats to AQ and MM, you both sound so relaxed it's inspiring. Congrats barbarella - goodness, triplets, that is amazing! Am now 25 weeks and feel scarily enormous. The boys are in the 90th centile for singletons and no sign of ttts so am feeling good in that way, just have no idea how I am going to stretch and go another 9-11 weeks (they've said 36 weeks will be the latest for the c-section). Only checking the thread rarely as DS1 is running me off my feet, plus he had chicken pox and we're trying to find somewhere to live. sold the flat hugely under value but them's the times I guess. All a bit stressful, trying to keep calm. Also not facing up to the fact that the car undoubtedly can't take 3 car seats, overwhelmed by the expense of a new car/moving etc. Really wanted to be settled somewhere, have the twins' room set up and all equipment bought, but given we don't know where we'll be that's unlikely. AQ and MM - have you got any extra help at all? And if not, how are you coping?!

Congrats and welcome Barbarella, I genuinely bow at triplets!

I have an MB double with 2 carrycots and would definitely would rather have the single carrycot so they are together & it will fit them longer, in fact thinking about trying to buy one on ebay. I think I must have bought v.badly as I paid £300 and it's in bad shape really, it wobbles & creaks a lot but generally MB's are fab fab fab. I looked at the pear, we didn't like it as it was incredibly heavy to push and manoevre. We also have a baby jogger city mini double and it's great, would highly recommend if you want something lighter. V. easy to push, lightweight, hoods come down nice and low so babies out of the wind etc. Smallish shopping basket though. I would have preferred to get the out and about nipper but it wouldn't fit through the door. I don't actually find it that much of a problem moving them from car seat to buggy etc.

hi balamorybaby, there are loads of us having boy/girl twins now. anyway i had the icandy apple and thought it was ok but wasnt convinced at the quality. i didnt get the pear because just too many people said how heavy it was and the seats were very small. people on e-bay seem to be selling them after a few months which is never a great sign. i just really wanted the chassis so i could put the maxi-cosi car seats on as well but its alot of money to spend. if you get a cheap one on e-bay then you could try it and re-sell it if you hate it (and possibly make some money) the cheapest one i have seen was £250 buy it now and it was only on there about 5 minutes.
i have tried loads of doubles out as my two are under 17 months apart. the moutain buggy urban was by far the best for me. it depends what you want to use it for. we go to the beach and in the muddy woods alot so the maclaren type buggies were a waste of time. my friend with twins had a maclaren twin for years but they dont have a car and live in the city, so it was great for busses etc. i have a secondhand twin maclaren techno this time as my second buggy to the MB urban because it might come in handy later on going to twin toddler group which is in the city and far from the car park (and its less likely to get stolen) it will also be handy for trips to the doctors as its more compact. my main buggy is the mountain buggy urban with twin carrycot, its actually narrower than the maclaren but longer. as i said i had one before and loved it, they are pretty much indestructable. mine cost £90 from e-bay and £60 for the carrycot.
other buggies i have had, m&p aira (not very good quality and bulky) jane powertwin (tendancy to tip with a toddler in the front) jane twin two (really big and heavy, terrible wheels) ABC everest (excellent buggy but no carrycot, big plus is you can add a toddler seat on as well) easylife twin and single with toddler seat (really heavy and chops your fingers off when folding)mutsy with duo seat (really hard to steer and really heavy and wide) phil and teds E3, sport and twin (overall great buggies but not as great quality as the MB). i have probably had some more but i cant think of them at the moment.

if you have other children as well the mountain buggy can take two buggy boards and you can push it with one hand. my second choice is the ABC (adventure buggy company) everest. you can have the single with the reclining toddler seat for twins or the twin version with as many as two toddler seats on top. its lightweight and just as good as the mountain buggy. the only downside is that they dont do a carrycot and the twin MB carrycot is lovely.
see if you can get to a big baby shop and have a good look at the twins available. if you decide on one look on the internet as places like kiddycare often have them cheaper. also as long as you can remove the covers for washing, e-bay is a great place for cheap secondhand buggies. there are also some on mumsnet, netmums, tamba, preloved and the adtrader. i got my secondhand maclaren twin techno from a secondhand baby shop in norwich. it was in excellent condition with all the accessories still in sealed bags and it was £70.

i believe it is sometimes better to get a secondhand good quality buggy than a new cheap lower quality buggy. i saw a lady with 8 month old twins in TKMAX with a twin hauck buggy. the wheels were so buckled the buggy wobbled around like a broken shopping trolley on a roller coaster. it certainly put me off hauck buggies, it cost her £399 and didnt last 8 months!!!

*Congratulation MM.* The babies sound like they are doing really well. Is anyone else feeling scared now AQ and MM have their babies. Having my twins was always months away and now it is next month!!! Scary!

Barbarella Congratulations on your triplets. I read Jackie Clunes book on having her triplets and it was really entertaining. At 16 weeks I bet your bigger then us twin mums at week 30!

Balamoraybaby I am getting the out and about nipper for my double. I will also use my old pram which has a carrycot for a few weeks whilst I can fit both babies in.

Had another bad night last night and then had to go to work this morning. Only 2 more days at work though and then I can have power naps during the day when my 2 ds's are at school/pre school. Hooray!

Congratulations on the b/g twins, join the club!

Mel is our resident buggy expert - I'm sure she'll be full of useful advice. Do you have to worry about width and do you prefer a tandem or side-by-side one? I've been given a side-by-side twin mountain buggy, so didn't have any tough decisions to make. The best thing about it is the twin carrycot you can get for it which means the babies are in the same space together, but it is enormous and heavy. Ours is 4 years old and still looks great though, I think they're really good quality.

Thanks for the info on your scans ladies smile

Barbarella Many congratulations on your triplets

Had my 22week scan today and found out that we are expecting a boy and a girl grin

Next scan booked for 28 weeks and then they'll be every 4 weeks after that.

Feeling happier about buying things now so am on the lookout for a suitable twin pushchair. Am considering the icandy pear - does anyone have one or have any opinions on it? I like the idea of being able to put the carseats on it if I'm popping into the shop so I can still hold DS2's hand too.

What pushchair have you bought or are you getting ?

Hi Everyone,

Can I be added to the list? I am 16+4 pg with triplets - identical twins plus one singleton. I'm a first timer and due 9th April, but specialist says they'll take take them out around 34 weeks so that would be the beginning of March. They were the result of our sixth round of IVF and, even though we only had two embryos transferred, one kept dividing itself into a set of identical twins....so, instant family!

Am feeling more confident as the weeks go (slowly) by but we still have fingers crossed as we lost our first IVF pregnancy.

How are you all doing?

Barbarella XX

MM your two sound a LOT like mine, amazing really.I use an ordinary v pillow btw, although thinking of investing in a doomoo or something. I put one down on the couch next to me, then bring the other over, then place both of them on the v pillow (with extra cushions). It's getting a little hard to lift Bridget at the moment, used to do it one handed but she's getting bigger. I do about 70% feeds like this, Felix has an extra feed or two during the day too. I found after a couple of weeks it was just easier to feed them together as they settle well (they come off at the same time!) and it's less time consuming. Well done so far, the first 10 days were a nightmare for me, you sound so positive! Glad ds1 is doing well, it's a real adjustment for him isn't it? I was playing chasey with ds2 on the weekend and it was so nice to be down on the floor playing with him again.
I have 2 newborn sleeping bags the dt's have grown out of already, would you like them btw?

Yeah, tallulah, kind of got used to bfing and multi-tasking when ds1 fed for 11 months and refused bottles!

Accessorize, your two are growing quickly. I have even noticed change in mine over 10days! Well, greedy guzzler Mirissa anyway who is getting quite chubby. She eats about double the amount of Jude! Their little characters are so different. She sounds a bit like your Bridget. She is feisty, gets REALLY angry when she is crying, is very alert, loves her food however it comes (she has 1 bottle of formula a day, Jude does not have any) and is happy to sleep on her own. Jude is more 'squidgy', loves his cuddles, can't sleep well unless with sister, loves his breastmilk, cries like his heart is breaking, sleeps more than her.

Ds1 has been very cute, he realy loves the babies and wants to hold them all the time. He's not too good at being 'gentle' and daddy can get a bit upset that he is manhandling them, but I try not to tell him off when he is touching them and just let him be a bit rough and correct him if it is too bad! I think me being in hospital for a week was the worst bit for him, he kept saying "I don't like you" when I came home. I've enjoyed being able to spend time with him again, get on the floor, dance around, tickle him etc. and we seem to have made friends again.

AQ, I am not managing to tandem. How do you pick up the second baby? I need to get a v pillow, the one I have does not work, it is an inflatable one and it's not big enough, would be fine for 1 baby but not two. Not sure how it will work out as she definitely eats more often, but maybe he will start catching up if I wake him every time she eats. At the moment it has been easier to let them eat at totally separate times.

Balamory - I've been scanned every 4 weeks (DCDA twins), and now at 32 weeks the next one's been set for 3 weeks time, mostly to check positions and to discuss my birthplan with my consultant (I've been sparing him the 5 page essay - control freak, moi?).

Hello PBH, glad you're OK. My sides are OK though I do just generally feel huge and cumbersome.

Mel glad to hear the GTT was clear but sorry you're still low. Love your baby names, I think we're pretty close to decided on ours though of course my parents hate them which is always a bit offputting - not enough to change them though!

I had a reasonable night's sleep last night - hooray. Then a thoroughly spoilt day of massage and DD now off at a sleepover so I've been very lazy. Just waiting for the X Factor result before zzzzzzzzzz grin .

Balamory - I had a booking scan @ 11 weeks where we found out was a BOGOF. Then another scan for NT screening 2 or 3 days later. Another detailed scan at 18 wks, again @ 24 then a growth scan @ 28. Next one in 4 weeks time I think (32 wks). Think every 4 weeks is usual. Don't know if scans get more frequent but my appointments become fortnightly after 32 weeks.

Awww MEL, I want to send you lots of whatever will make you feel better...
its daft really that technically you should be lower risk but are having more problems...

To be honest work is lot less stressful than being at home - I get to sit on my big fat arse and not look at piles of ironing, whilst being ankle deep in dog hair, bits of polly pocket, dirty socks and dust...and stress about it!

I'm looking forward to finishing work, but the great big gap between finishing and then having the section is stretching out before me and I honestly don't know how I'm going to cope without going mad...I had the grand sum of 1 day on maternity leave before going into labour with dd, so I really don't know what I'm going to do with myself...
hubby keeps joking that he wants his tea on the table when he gets in from work....yeah right! shock...daytime tv here I come!

Hello all, Hope every one is holding up the bump and all!!

poorbuthappy I am a week behind you and
today my consultant said I could get a c-sec between 36 and 37 week. They would not go much beyond 37 week for MCDA twins. The end is near with two prizes. I am so achy all over so it would be great to feel myself again.

Balamorybaby I have had 6 scans so far at 29 weeks. Scheduled for another 2, 3 weeks apart. Bascially with MCDA they scan you more. The scan guy was super confident that I dont have TTTS and hence the 4 week gap last time and 3 weeks gap for the next two. It really depends how you progress but it will be more than singletons so you get to watch them grow.

PazzaPlusTwo what week did you have your twins? They look so cute. I can't wait to see mine.

AQ/Anjlix - ha ha that's funny, you're looking at pics of newborns to remind you of the 'prize' ... when i come on here now i remember what i went thru to have them, and try to enjoy them more!

hi PBH i have been wondering how you are getting on. i am glad you are all ok and you are doing alot better than i am.
i had my GTT results back clear and the swabs are clear so its looking like a problem with one of the placentas. to be honest i dont really feel that well but the babies are moving well and i havent had anymore bleeding. i am 30 weeks on saturday so i am taking it really easy hoping they will stay put for a few more weeks yet. i dont know how you can still be at work, i work from home and i am finding it really difficult. i have this feeling that i will have them by 32 weeks, i hope i am wrong. my target is 34 weeks but i would love them to stay in until 36 weeks.
i am trying finlay and rosemary out today to see if they sound right. i really need to name them.

AQ i love the new photos.

balamory, i think they will scan you once every 4 weeks after 20 weeks, like me. if there are any problems they will scan you more.

Afternoon all....can't keep up with this thread now...been really busy in work and haven't been able to read / post on here for ages!!!!

MEL-how are you today? Just take it 1 day at a time and watch the weeks go past...I'm 30 weeks tomorrow which seems such a milestone...consultant says everything ok with me so I will probably make 37 weeks which is week ending 19th dec for the section...big hugs to you, keep your legs crossed!!!!!! wink

To the ladies who are around the same date as me, do you feel like your sides are going to split?? My stomach is doing ok stretchy wise as in not feeling uncomfortable, but I think I am burst open at the seams! Bring on the bio oil as it is the only thing which seems to help...

Pushchair bought - big thanks to mum and dad for that !
Nursery will be finished on the weekend (once the carpet argument has been won by me...)
Finish work 3 week tomorrow...

AQ - my memory is so bad that I can't remember if I have congratulated you yet - so here is it again...CONGRATULATIONS!

Also can anyone suggest a name to go with Gwen?

Balamorybaby - my twins are MCDA which means I get scanned every 2 weeks so I think your scans will be less frequent...can't really help more than that to be honest!

Gorgeous pictures AQ I love the names and what fantastic weights your DT's were.

Can I ask you ladies about your scans during pregnancy please?
I had an intial scan at 7 weeks (due to a bleed) where they discovered I was expecting twins, a scan at 12 weeks and an anomaloy scan booked for next week (22 weeks).
Do the scans become more frequent from now on and how often were you scanned in your pregnancy? (My twins are DCDA if that makes a difference).
Thanks so much for any help you can give smile

grin anjelix. I know I loved looking at pazza's photos when I was pg, it made me focus on them as babies instead of feeling so rotten all the time.

welcome swerve, god i remember how I felt when I first found out, took a month to stop crying!

gbb, hope you get some sleep tonight,I think youve just got to take an hour here and there when you can day or night at this stage.

At the end (so the whole last trimester then!) I was crying every day and so fed up of being in pain and not being able to do anything. I think it just goes with a twin pg unfortunately.I have so much sympathy for you all still going through it, I was quite miserable for weeks on end, hardest pregnancy by far. I never thought it would end but lo and behold I have 2 lovely babies to show for it. I was sobbing over ds3 last night realising that he would only be this small once and then that was it, just appreciating the moments despite lack of sleep.I know these are my last babies and want to treasure every moment.

Hello twin mums,

I had my 29 week scan today at the fetal medicine center and the girls are estimated at 2 lbs 13 oz each. I can't believe how fat they have become! I am so happy. Everything was normal. However the doctor recommends an elective c-sec between 35 and 36 weeks. He saus they dont prefer id twins with single placenta in there for too long since there can be risk of sudden death of one twin. I think I will book the date in any case and then see what happens. Any ways lets see what my consultant thinks tomorrow.

AQ such cute pics. Made my day!

swerve welcome to being a twin mum. just remember dont be too hard on your self and try not to benchmark your self to singleton mums. I thought I was going to work until 33 weeks. I m 29 weeks and a walk around the block is all I like to do. I am not even that heavy, gained about 23 lbs so far. Wish you all the best.

Hello everyone

Mel glad to hear everything has settled down a bit, despite external factors. I'm currently taking refuge at my parents to get away from nicotine-deprived DIY-crazed husband especially with DD on half term. I am being much more assertive than last time about asking my mum for help too, so it should be nice and restful.

I woke up every ten minutes last night, hard bed and instead of just getting every pillow and duvet in the house, I kept trying minimal additional support and had to keep getting up for more. I know exactly what you all mean about discomfort now - especially the hips. Also crying at the drop of a hat.

AQ sorry to hear about the colic, I remember that with DD, thankfully brief. The pic is gorgeous. I just can't wait to meet mine now.

Pheonix, hope your last week at work isn't too emotional!

hello all, I'm so glad to find such enthusiasm for twins. I'm just back from a scan and found there are 2 in there. We're still shaking and reeling and i'm resisting from reaching for a stiff whisky! Currently in 10th week. due 28th May. dd1 is 17 months. So pretty much in the same boat as Mum2william.

I'm sure I'll be picking the brains of those more experienced twin-mums.

Pheonixnights You are so not being a drama queen. I can't remember the last time I slept for more than a few hours at a time. I go to bed about 10:30 but as soon as I lie down the permanent heartburn intensifies so I end up sitting upright till I finally drop of sometime after midnight. Then every couple of hours I wake up for the toilet or cos my back hurts, my bump hurts, my legs are cramping or the heartburn is agonising. Then my mind starts whirring & I can't settle back down. I have 3 or pillows under my head, one to support my back, one under my bump or between my legs. The only time I feel comfy is when the alarm has gone off & I need to get up for work. Then suddenly I'm cosy, comfy & ready to settle down for sleep. At the moment DH is abroad but comes home in Nov. I am already dreading having him in the bed, using up pillows, taking up precious space & snoring his head off. Then sleeping in the morning whilst I get up & go to work. Gah! I guess I'm the drama queen!!!!Sorry- what a rant.

Mel you sound really organised and at least you don't have to think about all the things you need to do. I am finding I think alot in the middle of the night when I am rearranging the pillows for the 50th time. Things always seem worse at 3 o clock in the morning.

I have a few names that I like for the twins but hubby just wants to wait until they arrive before we decide. I have a Thomas already who is nearly 8.

On a happy note we are getting the new car tomorrow. We have gone for the Zafira as I didn't want a huge car. I have never had such a new car before so I am really looking forward to it! Once it has come we are off to Kiddicare to get the double pushchair. THings are starting to come together at last! Next week is my last day at work. I have been there for 12 years and it feels so strange that I am going to be leaving for good. My mum looks after my boys when I work but with 4 children it won't be possible and with childcare costs for twins it won't be worth me going back. I think there will be tears next Wednesday!

Anyway hopefully I get a better nights sleep tonight. I think I will take a paracetamol before I go off at least to try and get a stretch of more than 2 hours! I am such a wuss!! What am I going to be like when the twins arrive!

GettingBiggerBird I am adding myself to the list at the bottom. Thanks for the welcome. lol.

mel2005 sending good vibes to you. I read some where that babies born after 28 weeks have 100% survival rate in some hospitals.

I feel very anxious about it too. I will be 29 weeks tomorrow. Some how want to get past 30. No complications so far except emotional issues but mind is paranoid.

Pheonixnight I have some good nights and some bad ones. It does not help that I can hear mom snore in deep sleep from the other room. The other day I freaked out when I woke up at 5a and could not go back to sleep. Finally went to bed at 8a until 11a. I can do that since I am on my annual leave now, followed by mat leave and no kids. But I needed to give my self some space and say that it is okay to be up when others are sleeping and vice versa. Sleep has become irregular and I can not control it. My legs hurt too due to the weight. If it gets too much I take a paracetamol once in a while. And yes I do think about how am I going to cope when I am further along. One trick is to tell my self that tomorrow wont be much different from yesterday and may in fact be better. It is not like I am going to wake up and find myself to be a complete basket case unable to cope.

Here is the new list.

hello all, there are quite a few of us due about the same time now. i am feeling alot better and am trying to take it easy, which is quite hard with a 4yr and 2.5yr old on half term from nursery and a building site for a kitchen. i am finding it really hard to sleep as well and i keep getting up to check i am not bleeding again. i dont think i will ever relax again. if it is the placenta, i could be in big trouble if alot comes away so i am not going to lift anything. i am trying to eat loads so if they do make an early appearance they have a better chance. the hospital had 23 week old twins born two weeks ago that have survived. at least i am 29+3 now, i just need a few more weeks.
we are still trying to decide on names, DH is going on about walter and winnifred (after his grandparents), i hope he is joking!!!!!. i quite like tegan and thomas at the moment but i am not sure about the same initial. rosemary and thomas would be nice as well.
luckily i packed my hospital bags after the last scare so DH just had to pick them up on his way to the hospital. i have washed all the early baby and newborn clothes ready (just an excuse to use the new tumble dryer) the nursery is ready as well, so now i just have to sit and wait.

Hi Anjlix. How are you doing? I have had the worst 2 nights sleep now and it is really annoying me!! I wake every 2 hours and then spend 20 minutes to make 1 turn! I prefer sleeping on my side but I find I wake up with my hip in agony because of all the bloody weight on it. Honestly I look at hubby fast asleep on his front and want to hit him with my bedside lamp!!! It's not fair! It worries me how I am going to cope when I am even bigger. I seem to be the only one moaning about it. Are you lot all coping better or am i just a drama queen?

oh wow i found a twin thread. I hope to join you guys. I have MCDA identical twin girls and currently nearing 29 weeks.

Pheonixnights your dates seem close to mine. I have a 29 week scan in 2 days. I am excited to know hw large they will be. They were both head down at 25 weeks.

I was also very shocked to find out. But now it feels a bit weird when people assume you are having one baby. The other day a mid wife at the hospital said, 'okay lets see how the baby is doing' with the heart beat thing in one hand. And I caught myself thinking 'who has only one baby'? haha

Oh Mel - I am really hoping that everything works out ok for you. As the others have said, you must rest.

I had my 28 week check today. Twin 2 is now head down and twin 1 is breach. They weigh approx 2lb 12 and 2lb 13, can believe how much weight they have gained over the last 4 weeks!! the little fatties!

Welcome to the newbies. I can't believe how quickly my pregancy is going!! When I found out it was twins I was gob smacked, but you do get your head round it quickly. Still have some days of panic but having seen my babies today, I can't wait to meet them properly (and find out what they are!!!)

Mel best wishes for you, hope you can get plenty of rest and keep them in a few more weeks at least.

BinkyB - can't really help on the childcare front yet, we're going for a doula this time round (Marslady on here) but only have the number of a night nanny for emergencies. My DH can be around quite a bit for the first couple of months.

Balamorybaby welcome - please come and join us, our numbers might dwindle as the DTs arrive and keep the mums too busy to post.

I am having a lovely relaxing child-free day at home, just been for a scan and twin 1 has turned head down, what a good girl! I really think my acupuncturist helped with that. Coming up to 32 weeks and over 8lbs of baby already, it's exhausting isn't it?

well, i have just got back from hospital after having to stay in with another bleed. i have had the steriod injection to mature their lungs as they are worried and they only let me home now as the bleeding has stopped and i am 15mins away by car and the ambulance station is half way betwen me and the hospital. i am trying to take it easy as i am only just 29 weeks now. the estimated weights are 2lb8oz at the moment. Hi there, I've posted this in the 'D'y ever' thread in multiples too, but would be great to hear what new mums or those expecting babies soon are planning.

My twins are due in Mar/Apr next year, DH works v long hours and we're just wondering what sort of childcare we want/need/can afford for the first few months at least.

The main thing we are looking at budgets for is help/support with the babies, so we can make sure our sanity and marriage might survive and then worry about whether we need/can afford a new car! Can I ask you please what sort of help you would recommend for the first 6 months? Will I get through it without a nanny / maternity nurse etc.? Sadly my Mum lives quite a way away and while I am hoping she will come and stay for a bit, I don't want to take the p* and be a granny-exploiter for too long.

If you used any paid for childcare services, would you mind telling me roughly what they cost? Or any good places to start when looking into costs (we are in London if any of you are).

Thanks a million (or thruppence hapeth if our budget looks as scary as I think it is going to grin)

Merry, congrats, wow!! CAn't wait to hear the birth story and of course their names!!!

Mel, sorry you're having so much grief with ds. Can you get a proper assessment from a paediatrician to be clear once and for all? Request via your HV? Glad the dt's are looking bigger, not many weeks now!

Pazza, do you still tandem feed the dt's at this age? I was just wondering how I'd manage it once they got bigger. At the moment they're small enough that I can lift one-handed onto the v-pillow. But won't be able to do that for long and both will get heavy on my lap at once...I sometimes love it and sometimes feel quite hemmed in by doing them at the same time.

Mum2William, you are very very welcome, congrats on your news! We've all been through/are going through the same thing re kit, logistics etc and quite a few of us have younger children. My ds (22 months) is actually being completely adorable with his new brother and sister (3 weeks), he's besotted with them grin

I'm just updating my tesco order whilst waiting to see if dt's will settle after their 3am feed. Just had nearly 4 hours sleep, yay!!!!

GOOD LUCK MM

i am relieved that the twins are now on the 36 and 37th centile (they were on the 12th last time) the boy is now the slightly larger one, he had always been the smaller one in the past. the GTT wasnt that bad, i found somewhere quiet to sit and got chatting to another expectant mum. i didnt like the lucozade much and it is so much to drink at once.
i had a word with the health visitor about my little boy and she didnt think there was a problem with him. then DH nad I went to pick up the children from nursery and the teacher convinced DH that there was somthing wrong with him. i became really angry/p** off with it all. just when i thought it was sorted now its not. i have now spent the last day trying to convince DH that our son doesnt have autism and he does play well with other children and doesnt have a language problem. In fact DH doesnt spend much time with the children at all because he is always working, so actually doesnt have a clue. she also is now saying he is obsessed with black and is really angry all the time. i dread to think what is happening when i am not there to make him like that as his favourite colour at home is white.
in the last few days DH has spent abit more time with the children everything between them had been more relaxed and he can see more what edward is like.
i am not so relaxed though as DH is ripping out the kitchen to make way for the new one. i am currently waiting for the new tumble dryer to turn up. i have never had one before as i refused to waste money drying clothes when i can put them infront of the log burner or out on the washing line. i will not be able to cope with the extra washing when the twins are here so i have agreed to having one. It will be lovely having a real kitchen rather than the makeshift thing i have had for the last three years.

GBB - glad everyone OK after the accident.
MM - good luck.
Mel - how did your GTT & hosp visit go?

I had my hosp appt this afternoon. Was so much better than last time - well it had to be, at least they saw me this time. Babies are growing well, each about average size for 28 weeks. Also got a number to call to arrange couple of ante natal classes specially for multiples so that should help allay a few of my worries.Had traces of sugar in urine but they don't seem too bothered by that. Blood taken to rule out cholestasis cos of all the itching.Still got to see my GP though to get prescription for Piriton, plus painkillers for backache, plus ranitidine & Gaviscon for h/burn. Why can't a hosp doc write a prescription, doesn't make sense to me.

Morning all
Thanks for the kind thoughts about the car accident. It's been a stressful week or so but we have a nice courtesy car so I have been able to come into work for my last couple of days, finishing Thursday yippee grin.

We have had lots of discussions about names and have a few of each which are kind-of agreed, I hope one of each fits when the time comes.

Mel - sorry about the school stresses, but sounds like you're well placed to fight your son's corner. And thanks for the feedback about the Galaxy - unfortunately DH thinks they're too pricey so he's trawling the net for Japanese grey imports.

Pazza, how long till you start back to work? Did you sort out a nanny? Maybe we could squeeze in a Rio baby cinema visit and I can be the extr pair of hands for you and 'friend'?

And last but definitely not least, MM is your c-section tomorrow? Hope it's not too late to wish you luck and can't wait to see photos.
