Hi Natty,

I was prescribed 3 months of 50mg Clomid, starting in Feb this year. I don't have PCOS but apparently I do not ovulate very often at all (previously 18 months ttc with one m/c in Nov '05)

I got pg in the first month and am now 25 weeks pg. Know there are quite a few others on Mumsnet who have similar stories...

Good Luck!

I had over 6 months of Clomid for 1st dughter and again for twins. I don't ovulate vey often so in all it took 3 years for 1st daughter and 3 years for twins both times trying for a year and then Clomid for 6 months at a time with a few months break in between. It still took 2 years of on/off clomid for me to concieve.
But since then I had dd4 without clomid and it took 3 years and this one is due in December and dd4 will be 3.5yrs so I guess my body just has babies every 3-4 years

Yep twice.
Both times, worked first month
by then, I was sure that I could only become pregnant using clomid. ....I fell again without clomid when dd was 3.5 months old !

be careful - and good luck

Not me but a good friend got pg with her DS on her 2nd go at clomid. She started ttc again when her DS was 1(without clomid) and got pg straight away with twins!!!

Good luck for your treatment - hope you get your BFP soon.

Hi Natty1806 - I moved onto injectibles for a couple of months after clomid then had three IVF cycles all failed, I then decided to stop with the fertility treatment and consider adoption. I'm hoping to be adopting in Sept/Oct this year, which will be 2.5 years since my last IVF.

I'm told clomid works in about 85% of cases.

yes the book's quite good - It comes across as a very honest account of how she felt going through ttc to having 2 kids very suddenly (she also had Clomid for DD1 but DD2 conceived unexpectantly very quickly after birth of DD1). She's also quite good at laughing at herself. She makes it quite clear that the book is just her personal account and is not trying to give advice etc...

Good luck.

After ages trying to conceive and endless tests, clomid worked for me first time - I couldn't believe it and now have a beautiful 6 month old baby girl. Word of warning though, just as some of the others have said - I am now three months pregnant with number 2 - no clomid needed this time. Still a bit in shock but pleased nonetheless. Good luck.

Hi all, I naughtily and some would say stupidly (I do work in A&E though so got myself checked out before taking it)purchased some Clomid over the counter on holiday in Greece as after 3 miscarriages and 3 subsequent years of trying again with no result my GP still wouldn't prescribe anything. That was last October and although during taking it I didn't conceive I am now 14 weeks pregnant and I took nothing else in between. I like to think it might have given my ovaries a boost so good luck!

I had secondary infertility .. after birth of DS my cycle settled down with a short post-luteal phase .. so even though I was ovulating there wasn't long enough between ovulation and period starting (10 days) for me to conceive

was on 50mg clomid day 1 - 5 ... conceived DD first cycle of using it

good luck

Hi Natty,

I took clomoid for for two lots of six month cycles with a couple of months of break in between came off it at the end of May was told IVF or nothing and conceived in the beginning of July. I now have a beautiful little girl who is nearly 4. We started to try for no2 quite quickly nothing doing so took clomoid for 9 months finished it end of August (2006) and conceived in September, I am now 15 weeks prg. Clearly for me the month straight after finishing clomoid is a good time for me.

However, I know two other friends who took it one conceived in first month, the other about month 6, although she is trying for no2 and has just taken it for 12 months and it hasnt worked.

I think everyone is different and it obviously works well for the majority! Good luck, keep smiling and try to relax (easier said than done I know )

I'm obviously the same, Seansgirl - was given Clomid in March last year for three months, nothing happened while taking it, then when it finished got PG in June exactly three years after we started trying. LO due March.

Natty, good luck. I was given clomid because they thought I wasn't ovulating following chemical and surgical treatment for endometriosis and ovarian cysts btw. I really hope it works for you.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 3 years. After talking with my OB-GYN about our concerns, she referred us to a specialist. The fertility specialist ran several tests on me and my husband and everything is well, so he suggested clomid. My husband wanted to try for a little while longer on our own so we waited six months trying to having a baby w/out clomid. My last cycle, we decided to try it out and tomorrow I have my last US before TIC. I'm so nervous, and I hope it works ur first round of Clomid. Well I'll keep you all posted. Keep us in your prayers!! Good luck to all that are trying to conceive. Babydust!!

Hello everyone, hope you don't mind me asking but I'd really like to know when clomid can help.

Have been ttc for 18 months now, had one M/C at 10 weeks and nothing since (over a year ago) my consultant says the progesterone tests are positive and I'm ovulating. When do they prescribe clomid? Is only when you are not ovulating??

I think my luteal phase (ovu until AF is about 10-11 days) is this an indication for clomid?

Sorry about all the questions but mn seems to be alot easier to get answers than doctors are.

Just popping by. I am 42 and conceived naturally after trying with clomid a couple of times. The clomid seemed to get things moving. Just to be sure I had a red-dye test to check tubes were clear as well. We had been ttc for about 18 months. I'm now 15 weeks pregnant, and so far all is well!! Good luck!!!! It can work.

Hi poppy, to answer your question. You can still take clomid even when you're ovulating regularly. I have no problem ovulating, but have been unable to get pregnant, so my fertility specialist prescibed me clomid. You should also be be able to get it, just speak with your doctor. God bless!!

Hi sorry bit of a long one. Was trying to conceive for 2 years then had lap and dye test in Aug 06 which said one tube blocked but one ok. Then was given clomid but couldn't take until i had a period now i had not had a period since i came of the pill and started to TTC for 2 years so i asked if there was anthing to start a bleed so i could start on clomid. They gave me something and i started the clomid on the 30th October 06. I had the 21 day blood test and said that i hadn't ovulated so to go onto highier dose. I didn't have a bleed or anything i did a preg test just before xmas which was negative so after xmas instead of taking the stuff to have the bleed i just started the clomid as preg test still neg. This showed that i had ovulated. But my period never came, did a preg test and was positive but when we went for the scan i was 8 weeks pregnant and had conceived on the 14th December 06. We have recently lost our baby and they have started me back on clomid and i just wondered if anyone had had anything similar happen as not sure if it was the clomid or a one off me ovulating, it just seems weired that i hadn't ovulated for 2 years and then took the clomid and got pregnant within 6 weeks? Really confussed¬!!! Thanks for reading appologies again for so long.

AlexE, Clomid is still kind of a mistery to me too. Not sure how after 2 years of no period, you got pregnant with Clomid, but considering you had a successful pregnancy with it before; I think it will work again for you. Good luck!!

Help!

I was told after taking the clomid and the hcg injection to wait until Aug 6th before taking a preg test. But today I felt sharp like pains which was unusual, so I couldn't wait to take the preg test. The preg test came back positive. I'm a lil in shock!

Has anyone received a pos. preg test after taking clomid, when in actuality they were not pregnant?

Hi just wondered if anyone had had this before, i started taking clomid last Tuesday and took my last pill on saturday. On sunday i had a really bad pain in my stomach for about 1 hour it was really low down like period pain at first i thought that it was becasue i have been really badly constipated sorry tmi, but it stopped hurting after an hour or so. Then this morning i have started to bleed a little not very much like the start of a period and i have a bit of a dull ache in my stomach on and off. i didn't have a bleed before i started clomid as took the withdrawal bleed stuff but nothing happened so my consultant said just to start the clomid. Not sure what is going on in my body has anyone had this before as last year when i went on clomid on the same dose i never had any bleeding inbetween?

Thanks

Hi all, I haven't had personal experience of clomid, however, it did work for my friend and she had a ds. Later she went on to concieve twice without it.
ASSIJI- my friend had lots of similar problems to you in that an ectopic destroyed one tube and the other tube was blocked. She had tests obviously and ended up having 3 rounds of IVF without success. Her and DH decided to try to adopt. After a year in the system and with nearly a child placed to them she discovered she was PG. He is now 18mths and she recently concieved again but unfortunately MC 3 wks ago. However, at least she knows she can concieve which was the initial problem.
I hope this gives some hope xx

pcos = polycystic overy syndrome
ds = dear son
dd = dear daughter

the numbers are the number of the ds or dd in your family

Hope that helps and good luck!

Hi, i have PCOS and when i had tests they said i realeased an egg one month but didn't the next, i have started clomid 50g today
as it has been 2 and a half year i have been trying

as of yet no side effects, who knows in the following days!

been reading all these sucsess storys and it's looking good , made me feel better anyways :-))

not too sure why the cod wants to see me in 6 months time mind, i thought they would monitor you inbetween taking these tablets .
i only know that i have to go on day 21 for my bloods, and if the 2 month worth i have don't work , just ring them up to get more.

arent they meant to monitor you inbetween all this?

good luck everyone else

hey,
i have PCOS, wasn't ovulating naturally and so was prescribed Clomid. i conceived on cycle 4 of clomid (i am now 23 weeks preggers). The blood test you mention will test for progesterone levels and if they are raised above a certain level you did ovulate. in my experience if all is well you'll be left to get on with further cycles, and if the dose you are on doesn't work they can up it for future cycles. i did also have lots of scans with the first cycle to make sure the ovaries were playing along and weren't over stimulated.

despite excellent care at the fertility unit i was under i found the whole think quite emotional. if this happens with you do stick with it and don't loose hope - i had to wait until cycle 4 (i'm not very patient at the best of times) but it's all worked out thus far and i can't wait until Jan when baby is due to appear.

the very best of luck to you, take care of yourself

I've been on Clomid since February for PCOS. DH and I have been trying for two years to conceive. My cycles had always been very long, but stepping up to 100mg started to bring them down. I got pregnant on cycle 2, but mc a few weeks later. I've just got a BFP on cycle four.

It's naturally early days, but you asked for success stories. And this is mine!!

hi Danielle and all ladies
my name is Aashi and after 12 years of trying(PCOS) with 2 IVF and misscarriaged both times, anyway first time after so long (i am 33 now, with no child so far) doctor put me on clomid 50mg to help me get pregnent because all my life i was thinking that i have both blocked fallopean tubes from last 12 years, some gynacologist told me after some check up but now when i had check again with laproscopy, i have been told that my both fallopean tubes and fine and healthy, no blockage what so ever but i do have bad POCs, so gynacologist gave me clomid and to my surprise after just taking one set of clomid 50mg, i got pregnent within first month in July, i wasnt expecting that however unfortunetly i misscarriaged on week 11th, in scan there wasnt any heart beat showing and it had stopped growing, well i had to have surgery to remove the pregnancy sack with the baby, but i am hopefull now atleast that i may get pregnent again, so if i can get pregnent than anyone can, trust me. love to all.

Hello! We had been ttc for two years and finally plucked up the courage to do some tests. Hubby was fine but I wasn't ovulating and was prescribed 50mg of clomid. I conceived on the first go as i felt more relaxed in my head and we have a lovely boy who will be a year old in two weeks. No side affects and a grand pregnancy! It does work and we are trying again naturally now so fingers crossed xxxx Good luck to you too!

Hi Natty,

I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago and my husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for almost 3 years. I was given a 6 month supply of clomid and had my first cycle at the beginning of March. I landed in hospital two weeks later to an emergency appendectomy and was shocked when I did a pregnancy test (well 3 actually) at the beginning of April and had a positive result. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it worked for me on the first try and I'm now 36 weeks pregnant.

Just be prepared for the side effects. I had horrible headaches, hot flushes and just generally felt like shit for the month of March. Be prepared, keep your fingers crossed and stay positive.

Good luck!
Summer
x

Hi ladies

I have suspected PCOS. My 21 day bloods revealed low progesterone and high testosterone.

Am going to have one more testosterone check before GP perscribes Clomid.

I am desperately trying for my 2nd baby, and reading all these success stories is getting me really excited! I can;t wait to get the treatment going!

You are all great inspirations!

Hi
Just found this website. New to all this. Have one gorgeous son, almost 3. Been trying for a second bambino for over 2 years. GP said relax, eventually we were sent for tests. Hubby ok! I've had lap and dye, scans, ultrasounds and all ok except not ovulating. (Fell first month with my son). Now on my first cycle of Clomid. Had high hopes of it working but from reading through I may be in for a shock! Had my injection Friday so kinda busy this weekend!
Doc says 3 months on Clomid then IUI but as we have gone private (due to our ages and local waiting list length) we have decided just these 3 months and thats it! Really great to read other's experiences. I know we are fortunate to have one child but I REALLY didn't want him to be an only child as neither my husband or I are. Here's hoping to some good news this Xmas!

Hi everyone, it is so comforting to know there are other women experiencing what I am experiencing with trying to get pregnant. I hope someone can give me some helpful information. My doctor put me on 50mg Clomid on days 5-9 in October. I thought I would be prenant by now or he would have increased my dosage. My progesterone level was 0.42 and increased to 9.6 after taking clomid. I was under the impression that I was suppose to continue taking clomid until I became pregnant. I used an OPK test but it never showed me that I ovulated but then my progestrone test showed that I did ovulate. I am so ready to be a mom. I'm 29 and my husband and I have been trying for almost 3 years. Any information would help me.

Well...I am confused. My 2nd blood test came back with normal testosterone levels. However my GP still wants me to take more tests!

Anyone had this happen?

I am being booked in for an ultrasound scan in January to look at my ovaries.

I am sooooo tempted to just order some clomiphene citrate ( CLOMID ) off the internet and get things moving already!!!!!

Natty, I don't know if I replied on this thread or not.

I took clomid for about 5 months last year and became pregnant in Dec now due in Sept. I'm over 40, have one ds 7 and had a mc 3 years ago. I appeared to not be ovulating which is why I was put on clomid.
I'm delighted to be pregnant of course but am not being too confident, I lost my last pg at 9 weeks so I feel hesitant this time!

The best of luck to you, it certainly worked for me!

I was give 50mg Clomid and took my first course in Jan. I had my scan on the 10th day and was told to do a test 2 weeks later (which i did this morning) but my period is not due for another 5 days, has any one else been told to test this early or have i just worked it out wrong? I have been given 3 months supply so fingers crossed it might work in the next two months. Would luv to hear from anyone

hello im new to this. been trying for baby for 5yrs. had laproscopy due to erratic bleeding, endometriosis was diagnosed. had the op to remove that 6 months ago, felt really positive, but alas no pregnancy since. after complaining again to the doctor for the millionth time in 5yrs, she finally referred me to a fertility expert clinic. they asked questioned my boyfriends sperm count, but he has got 2 kids, so no problem there. i went to this clinic 3pm today and the doctor said he's going to write my doctor a letter telling her to prescribe me clomid..sceptical though would love a baby SO MUCH. but good luck like that just doesn't happen to me. but reading through your stories has made me feel a little more positive, but then this page is called 'succesful' clomid stories... so now im wondering what happened to the unsuccesful ones, and are there many of them.............would love to have faith

please answer if you htink you can advise me in anyway...congratulations to you all xxx

Hi Amy
I was told i have a dipped womb and my right tube is blocked. I am 28 and have been trying for a baby for a few yrs now. I have finished my first cycle of clomid which made me feel sick and moody and i have put weight on (but didnt connect this with the clomid at first untill i spoke to Catcarvell). I am now waiting to start my second course as my preg test was a big no. To be honest i got my hopes up so much after reading everyones comments on various website. Clomid worked for so many people in the first course but i think everyone is very different so dont worry if its not succesfull your first time.
It would be nice to keep up to date with you, Take care and good luck x

Well i finally started my period which is good as that means i can start my next lot of clomid, however it only lasted 2 days over the weekend!!!!! cant believe how messed up my period is, there is no mention of this in any of the clomid info, but hey at least im on my second course now.

My folicals are 10 cm each 4 of them(last month i had 3 @ 2.5cm) and when they are this big they advise you to use protection due to multiple births but hey we dont go thorough all this to start using protection do we?
I have to go back for a scan on the first day of my period to check that everythin is ok b4 i start my third course, but fingers crossed i wont need my third course.

Thyroxine is a hormone which you are short of if you are hypothyroid, as I am. The lack of this hormone makes you less likely to conceive and more likely to miscarry if you do. My blood was checked for this after I had a miscarriage and I've been on thyroxine ever since. If you are hyperthyroid, you have too much thyroxine and that's bad news too.

Not only did I conceive after 9 months of Clomid (I remember the young infertility dr saying to me, Don't worry Mrs Elasticwoman, we'll get you pregnant!grin) but I also went on to have 2 more dc without any more treatment.
