It seems it's the day for polio queries.

So ds1 (9) had his 1st DTaP and polio (fairly sure it was oral but could have been injected) in the U.S. when he was about 5 months old. Back to N. Ireland where they didn't have DTaP yet so that had to be ordered. He received two more doses of that for sure.

Now here's the problem. gp has no record of polio vaccination in N. Ireland and I can't remember what happened. Did gp put on long finger because they were giving different one from u.s. as I wanted to continue with same? I can't honestly remember. I've no idea if he had them or not.

He HASN'T had his booster dtap and polio that they get at 4-5.

So he COULD possibly only ever had one dose of polio.

I DON'T want to give him 3 more doses of 5 in 1 (polio is in with dtap and something else here in Ireland) just to make sure he's covered for polio.

I WANT him to be covered for polio as we will be going to eastern europe in Sept.

What can I do?

Don't know kerry, but don't you only need one dose of polio every 10 years? I'd have thought if they give him the booster dtap and polio now he'd be more or less OK. I know when dh went to have polio (having had no childhood imunisations at all) they only gave him one dose.

Your GP should contact Child Health - they have all the records. I would have thought that NI imms would be recorded, but perhaps not. Have they told you Child Health doesn't have them?

I've been living down south since ds1 was 9 months old. I called a few months ago and they referred me to a number to call. Child health maybe? They had no record of polio.

would something be written in notes?

No, you need at least 3 doses of ipv.

Surgery staff have to call - Child Heath won't speak to parents anymore. It would either be recorded in the paper notes or computerised notes. Did you have a red book?

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
