Its worth getting it checked out by GP as some other forms of Seborrhoeic dermatitis which look like cradle cap but are itchy may need a zap of hydrocortisone or poss antifungal agent.sad Only know this as Ds now 4 months had this at 3 months and had scratched his forehead to bits. I'm back to the olive oil now and all is peachy. hth

My ds had it until he was about 9. He's 14 now, so it must have gone at some point................

Yikes. My DS still has some kind of cradle cap thing at 30 months. I always thought it would disappear and hasn't.

No idea, but it was basically a horses version of ringworm, if it's cradle cap it'll pretty much clear up by itself, if it's not it will get worse.
It probably is cradle cap, but just wait til it clears up a bit before you use the olive oil.

okay VS. [worried now], how would he get a horse disease though?

bleeding and blistery?
Do NOT put anything on it, get it checked first, I thought ds had cradle cap and put olive oil on it, turned out it was some fungal horse disease, his hair fell out and everything, then DD got it.
It has scarred his head and altered his hair pattern.
You mustn't put oil on broken skin.

olive oil and a soft baby brush, brush the hair backwards should remove most of it. Though I prob wouldn't brush tip it stops bleeding.

DS used to scratch his and it bled.
It dries up quickly so applying olive oil shouldn't be a problem

Rub olive oil into it each day
don't worry about greasy hair
it will clear up soonish
ds had it for a while
kept rubbing in olive oil
one day noticed it had completely gone

my 3 mths ds has what I thought was cradle cap, but it is obviously itchy and now he has scratched it and it is bleeding? Should I treat it? I am a natural kinda mum and i don't really like using chemicals or unnecessary medication. Will it clear up on its own?

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com.
