Hi ladies, I've just been diagnosed with an over active thyroid. I'm on anti-thyroid drugs now ans beta blockers but my heart is still racing at times. Sometimes my resting pulse is 110 and my chest gets really sore.

I just wondered if anyone could give me any advice, has anyone else experienced this and if so how long did it take for drugs to start working?

Memoo xx

I have the opposite, so can't be much help except to say it takes about 10 - 14 days to notice a difference with the medication. Also if you're newly diagnosed it can take a few months to get the dosage correct, but you should start to fell better.

Hi, drugs worked really quickly for me (Carbimazole)

Suffered for a year before going to the docs, thought it was just how you felt after having a baby grin
I've been taking meds for nearly a year and am due to come off them in Aug, things may flare up again but apparently it will be easy to get back under control.

Be warned I put weight on again pretty quickly too! But no more than my pre-baby weight.

Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, my dose was reduced pretty quickly, they were adjusted following each blood test which I had every 8 weeks ish.

No not dizzy, have you had your eyes checked? I have problems with my eyes due to the thyroid which can make me feel a little heady and give me double vision.

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
