Usually 20-30 minutes. Did you give them for a temperature of other reason? How old is your ds?

Do you know the cause of the pain? What other signs and symptoms does he have?

Did you give them together?

If you are trying to control a high fever it is best to alternate them to get 24 hour cover. Can only give 4 doses of paracetamol and 3 doses of ibruprofen in 24 hrs.

What is the matter with your son? If he has a temperature then take off some clothing and sponge him down with tepid water. I thought calpol and nurofen should be spaced out = 2hrs apart from each other. Hope he feels better soon.

I have only had this once with dd - just the same thing, teeth, and it took ages for the calpol to work. Worth checking with the doctor that it isn't an ear infection though.

In dd's case, it wasn't though. I think she got herself into a state and couldn't get out of it - I took her to the doctors in a panic, and just getting out of the house made it stop.

Calpol can take an hour and a half to work, it can be very slow. Liquid anbesol is very good for aching teeth. if you are using calpol and nurofen remember to alternate them, calpol then leave a 2 hour space before nurofen.

we went to the doctors yesterday who said he had a mildly red ear and to just give calpol for it.

vonsudenfed - can you remember how long it took to work in the end?

not with any accuracy, I'm afraid, I was in a bit of a panic. 25 min + enough time to talk to the doctor and load her in a pushchair and set off. So probably 50min - an hour.

I'd get the ear checked again, just in case, esp with the weekend looming.

avenanap - can nurofen take that long too? i thought it was meant to be quicker?

calprofen works almost instantlly on my dd but we use it very rarely indeed so it probably has more of an effect.

calprufen about 15 min here, I would give it for a red ear as it has anti-inflammatory that calpol does not.

I only usually need one dose of the stuff.

Ibuprofen works alot quicker then paracetamol. In some children I have seen it work within 30 mins, others take a bit longer. Every child's different.
