ds2 was complaining about itch between little toes. For days. I had a tube of fucidin (which I thought was for fungal type things) and was putting that on for a few days. Well this morning he says his foot is BURNING and I look at it and it's all blistered between toes sad.

Did I do this to my poor little boy?

I thought fucidin was antibiotic? If he has blistering and itching maybe its athletes foot (which is fungal) - the skin might be red underneath then flaking off in white bits like a burst blister? I would get some athletes foot cream (daktarin I think we've used in the past) and give that a try.

Where in the Hell would a 5 yo get athlete's foot from?

Only thing I can think of is swimming pool and shower? but he had pool shoes on!

and fucidin isn't for fungus - where did you get it? if it was on prescription you know you shoudln;t have used it for anything other tat what it was prescribed for...

it could well be athlete's foot

I knew fucidin is an antibiotic cream (I think fuciden H also has steriods in it), but I didn't realise it could cause sking damage.

Maybe best to get him to a doctors and get a cream prescibed.

yes I know. sad bad mummy

Fucidin wasn't for ds2 it was some I had for ds1. I should have taken him in but it didn't look bad to begin with he just said it itched so I thought (erroneously) that fuciden was for fungus.

Don't feel bad KM. I also really didn't realise fucidin can cause skin damage.

Athlete's foot is amazing - it can lurk around even after you think its gone and come back to haunt you! Sweaty shoes, changing room floors, showers - pretty grotty stuff. Try a fungal cream and try and keep his feet as dry as possible, don't share towels or you'll all have it!

and ds1 has a feckin VERUCA at same time. I'm already bleaching out the shower after every time he uses it!

He's only been to ONE swimming pool and shower and had swimming shoes on the entire time! How can this have happened?

sad

the shoes won't help against athlete's foot as they keep the feet all warm and moist - perfect for the fungus

duct tape for the verruca

ouch about the fucidin; I didn't realise it could do that either.

Ask the pharmacist what's best for him; daktarin can also cause a nasty reaction as my DH found to his cost (after getting athlete's foot from the smelly theatre wellies when I had my c-section). Canesten do a foot version as well now.

you can also get athlete's foot treatment powder as well which is useful for sprinkling in socks and shoes to help kill off the fungus there.

and make sure all his socks are washed at 60 degrees to kill it off.

I only knew about it because of using it at work with a lad who sucked his hands all the time - he'd get sore round the mouth and it would get infected, I was convinced it was't helping and the sore patches were getting bigger and rang the doctor. doctor told me only to put it on the infected area and very thinly as it can damage uninfected skin

athlete's foot!

shock

At least you know - horrible though and terribly itchy. Chances are the fucidin didn't do any harm (so don't blame yourself!) as athlete's foot does quickly cause the skin to peel away like that and it gets very sore. If you've been given a cream for it, make sure you keep using it for a bit even after it looks like its cleared up, and work the cream right in between the toes and underneath into the little folds of skin. Good luck!
