Somebody please, please tell me it'll hurt less this time, now that I've given birth! Had my last coil fitted about 5 years ago, having never been pregnant, and briefly blacked out from the pain [big wuss emoticon]. It shouldn't hurt so much this time, right? Seeing as my cervix opened enough to allow an 8lb-er through 3 months ago?? Somebody please reassure me now before I cancel the appointment and resign myself to using nasty condoms forever!

it didn't hurt that much having it put in (had one put in about 2 months ago) but, sorry, for this, i was in absolute agony for about 6 hours after. felt like i was having contractions but with no let up in between them. it's been fine since then though.

hope it's ok

I had one fitted yesterday and I don't think I'll be having another one done! I nearly passed out 3 times and had to get DH to pick me up from the GPs. I then was is agony for an hour and felt really poorly all day. Bloogy GP didn't warn me about ANY of this angry. And this is after two babies in two years and the last one was a 8lb9oz girl!

you won;t feel a thing! 2 nurofen before you go and remember to breathe

if you pushed a baby out, you can get a coil in, they are really quite small

My best friend - who's had 4 unmedicated home births including an 11 pound baby & is probably the strongest person I know - sobbed all the way through her mirena fitting. It was very painful - despite ibuprofen & paracetamol - she needed her dh to come & pick her up & was in pain & very upset for a week afterwards. GP told her to expect mild cramping shock

I have a copper one and it was agony after I had had DD. This time after my C section it was a lovely lady doctor and I barely even felt a pinch, it was fine, didn't even need any painkillers.

I think it varies quite a lot from one person to another and depends on the skill and experience of the person fitting it too. I had my coil fitted at the fpc. They do nothing but family planning so are probably more experienced. It was uncomfortable at worse and afterwards I had period type cramps for a couple of days(plus continuous bleeding which is why I eventually had it removed). But when I was on a day surgery ward for a minor gynological op there were women there having mirenas fitted under general anaesthetic.

LOL at "little pinch" grin

I compared the after fitting pains to having appendicitus!

I had a couple of nurofen and it was fine. A smear is much worse imo.

Good luck!

Blimey - you lot are making me cross my legs grin

Had my copper coil fitted 12 weeks after dd (also 8.5lbs!) and it was a little undignified - like a smear - but certainly not painful..think I felt a little scratch like sensation and that was it.

You'll be fine
