Hello, Its v.unlikely that the gall bladder op and the lichen planus are linked. Unfortunately both these problems (I'm assuming her gall bladder was removed for gall stones) occur most commonly in women in late middle age. The lichen planus is caused by an OVER-active immune system (its an autoimmune condition) so I think your tricologist is talking arse. That said, its is quite unusual to get lichen planus on the scalp, so perhaps she should see a dermatologist (get GP to refer her) just to make sure its nothing else, she may need a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Unfortunately the best treatment for LP is steroids, so maybe a stronger cream, or even a short course of tablets might be effective? Good luck
Off to work in a while but wanted to post this before i go. It's my mom she had her gall bladder removed about 2 years ago and since then has been unwell. She has foot problems ,they feel(inside) like they are on fire most of the time. She has developed Lichen planus in her mouth and now her scalp(which has been red for 12 + months )is making her hair drop out The doctor has run tests which came back negative but mom went to see a tricilogist whom upon reading my moms notes said that the GP had not tested her for Anemia(waiting for that now)and she then advised that her GP give her a stronger steroid cream to apply to the scalp. Mom is also taking Aloe vera gel and using it on her scalp. The Tricologist seems to think that my moms immune system has been compromised following the operation.
It is her birthday today and she was very depressed and on the verge of tears Her hair is just dropping out in clumps!
Please can anyone help her????? Surely if it is the immune system then drugs can be given to boost it??? Gp seems pretty unconcerned tbh .
