Your body is always detoxing.

A week of eating only carrot juice can't be good for you.

I saw a tv program last year and they took 5 woman and put them on a detox diet and 5 woman and put them on a healthy eating deit - all in one house.

At the end of the week they ran all the tests and no blardy difference - what a waste of time sad sorry but your liver, kidneys etc are made to detox every day without you do strange things in eaven wink

totally agree with ivykaty your body detoxes efficiently with the cleansing organs it's born with ie liver and kidneys. The reason people feel dizzy and faint when detoxing is not because of the body expelling toxins it's because the body is craving nutrients.

Waste of time and money IMO, your body manages fine with a healthy diet, enough fluid and not too many excesses.

There's one born every minute. If you are happy to pay a gang of quacks several hundred pounds for this nonsense, go right ahead!

bring some headache tablets too! (for the hunger headaches wink)I could do it for a day (well half a day) but definately not a week. But you will probably feel great after the week, all purified.
I like the idea of a retreat though. I hope you find it lovely and refreshing.

Hasan is doing great thanks smile He's just had chicken pox and looks like a dalmation!

I did one - Homefield Grange. Juices and broths plus a couple of colonics and lost 7lb, it was great and I felt really good afterwards. Went with four other people and we all lost a min of 5lb.

Oh and I didn't feel hungry once

A friend at school eat to many satsumers and really did turn orange...smile bless she was a lovely girl.

laid back - next time come and stay with me for a week and I will get you feeling wonderful for £150 for a week wink

green leafy salads with salmon, tuna and sea bream, puddings of berries and soft stoned fruits with yogurt and honet or melon and strawberries. My place is very peaceful, with a good stock of books. You can relax in the garden with elderflower water on a lounger. Soft wafts of honeysuckle drifting over whilst reading.....

Look on the bright side. You WILL lose shed loads of weight.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By ivykaty44 on Mon 12-May-08 11:50:57
Yes but your body will go into starvation mode and the week after you will pile more weight back on...
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By diplodocus on Mon 12-May-08 11:51:43
I really wouldn't. Your hands and feet are likely to turn yellow / orange because of the beta-carotene (seriously - I'm not taking the piss!). Also will be very high doses of Vitamin A, which can actually be toxic to the liver.
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By MegBusset on Mon 12-May-08 12:05:14
You might lose weight but it is not sustainable and will mess up your metabolism so you are likely to end up weighing more.

I did juices only at my retreat and it is sustainable as you aren't starving yourself as you have all calories and vitamins you need. I didn't put the weight back on.

I am sure it won't be just carrot juice, will it? Was OP not saying that for effect?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By mousemole on Mon 12-May-08 19:56:16
I have done 3 fasting detoxes. All slightly different but all packed with many vitamins and minerals and certainly not lacking in any nutrients. Various juices and broths throughout the day but no food. Incredibly I didn't feel hungy, felt absolutely amazing at the end and shed 7lbs ( which was a nice aside and not the reason for going). It also cleared up a veruca and fungal infection on my foot. I dont see it so much as a 'detox' as giving your body a rest and a chance to heal itself. OP, assume your aren't really just drinking carrot juice as that is actually high in fruit sugars and will play havoc with your glucose levels. Good luck with it, I am sure you will feel fanastic at the end. ( be prepared for lots of tears on day 3, detoxes detox minds as well as bodies and day 3 seems to make everyone weep !)

be very very careful

dh went to one in Wilshire a few years back

detox and treatments

he fainted after a bath and came round but couldn't move for 45mins.

No one came to look for him

NEVER AGAIN

Yes, as betroot says, you have to be careful where you go as many have jumped on the bandwagon.Sorry to hwar about your DH Beetroot, how traumatic.

You will go orange/yellow

A friend of mine had a serious post-natal carrot addiction -she was eating a couple of bags of them a day (but would have happily eaten more) and turned orange.

She even went to the GP about it as she was worried about how addicted she was -all the GP said was " well, it could be worse, you could be addicted to cream cakes" hmm

However, back to the OP -there are better ways to detox, surely?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By laidbackinengland on Mon 12-May-08 20:53:58
Mousemole has the idea of what it is about .... thanks for all your concerns though ...I will let you know what it was like on my return.
