DD (5 1/2 months) has just started nursery, so inevitably she she was going to to catch something. I was expecting lots of yukky colds and things like that but she's got Fifth disease and I think I have too (thankfully I'm not pregnant).
DD is fine, just rashy and slightly out of sorts. No fever or anything. As I understand it it will clear up on its own and there is not treatment available. Should I take her to the doctors anyway?
I've got a dodgy tummy but what worries me is my knees. They make shocking noises when I climb the stairs, I read that it can cause acute arthritis in adults. Should I expect any long term effects?
Typically I have googled for images of this, being the hypochondriac that I am. How can you tell the difference between this and say a persistent teething rash?
There was a big sign on the nursery door yesterday saying that they have a Fifth disease epidemic... that helped! Unfortunately it has a long incubation period so she had it in her system well before the sign appeared.
DD's not started started teething yet so I don't know about teething rash.
My DD had Fifth Disease when she was about 4. She had the classic red face and a lacey red rash on her arms and legs when she was hot (she had it in the summer, and was outside most of the time). She wasn't unwell with it, but it seemed to last for weeks. None of the rest of the family had any symptoms, although presumably we were affected given that it is extremely contagious.
