DD1 has been throwing up since this morning, she is also sweating alot because of the heat. She hasn't drunk alot at all [we have tried to encourage her] I remeber when dd3 has the same the hospital gave her dioralyte is small doses.
Does anyone know if I can get this over the counter [before I slog over to Sainsburys pharmacy]
Thank you all. Off to get it now, will get a range and hope it stays down as she is has just been sick again after we encouraged her to have some water . Poor dd1 might give her teeny amounts from a syringe like nurse did with dd3.
Hi, my pharmacist would not give Dioralyte to me for DS (12 months) as he said a prescription is needed for dispensing it to children under 2.
DP went back 10 mins later and said it was for him, no probs!
DS will only drink it in undiluted apple juice (better rotten teeth than dehydration I think!) and will only drink it out of a "grown up's" tea mug - ?????? Funny boy!
For what it is worth we used to give dehydrated babies flat 7up in the childrens ward about 20 years ago. It apparently has all the right stuff to correct the electrolyte imbalance. Please ask NHS 24 what would be best for your baby though. Good luck.
She is 4 gentleotter so not a baby really, pharmacist seemed to think dioralyte was definitely best option to start with- but will def call nhs 24 if she doesn't keep it down. She has had another 5mls and so far so good.
for a tummy bug, you wouldn't expect to keep large volumes down. Give her a teaspoon every 10 mins, thus allowing the fluid to be absorbed in tiny doses.
Poor dd1 has got worse and had to go to out of hours today she has gastroenteritis and the doc said we should expect it to last between 4 and 10 days. We have been told to encourage eating but poor dd is not keen and the food is not keen to stay down either.
