Me please. Dh has informed me that he has been surreptitiously trying out scales in other people's houses (freak) and has discovered that our scales are three quarters of a stone under. Which makes me nearer 12 stone than 11. Brilliant.
Ooh yes please. This baby weight has GOT to go. I'm a dreadful one for chocolate in the evenings when I'm exhausted. Dried fruit just is NOT the same - no matter how virtuous I might feel!
I'm with you all, I'm supposed gto be dieting anyway but I find it so difficult to cut out treats. so cutting down to one a week will really help. Glad we starting on monday because I've just bought an apple cake reduced to 55p in tescos I need to lose 2 stone all together. ok so shall we have weigh ins I think they would be good to keep us motivated.
can I join please? I need to lose 3 stones and every diet started on Mondays fails by Friday! Even when I stick to them the weight comes off painflly slowly (borderline underactive thyroid). Have decided just to eat v. healthily and no treats, as that can be sustained rather than real deprivation diets that make you fatter when you finish them! Anyone got any good metabolism boosting tips? Also, is it true the pill makes you fatter?
Can I join too please? The only good thing about going back to work after half time is that I eat much better when I'm at work. I have eaten so much crap over these two weeks, culminating in half a box of oreos last night (and I was evil mummy and waited until the girls were in bed before I opened them). I'd like to lose about half a stone so please feel free to nag and bully me if I admit to eating rubbish.
I start a new job (post mat leave) at the start of May and I want to look nice!
My problem is that when I start eating nice stuff I can't stop until the whole packet has gone.
Can we do some suggestions of healthy snacks to take the urges away? I can only think of fruit and nuts (mmmm Cadbury's Fruit and Nut) which I think will get a bit boring after a while.
Weigh ins fine by me but I'd have to do mine in the evening.
Healthy snacks - I would love some ideas for sweet snacks that aren't too bad. Dry meringues aren't many calories I don't think but they are a bit like eating chalk. I like rock hard conference pears, sliced and ice cold as well.
Ooo me too! Stopped bfing 3.5 weeks ago. Have put on 18 pounds since. Was eating all sorts of crap and need to retrain myself before it all gets out of hand.
Can I join too. Need to lose more than one stone, but one would be a good start. And I need something to motivate me through the school holidays or it will all go to pot.
So it is agreed, ONE treat per week, on a chosen day (for me it will be friday), the rest should be healthy snacks!
If you are breastfeeding, you should not really diet as such, but cutting out crappy unhealthy food will have enormous benefits to your baby anyway! Maybe fruit? Or a nice smoothie made from crushed berries and youghurt ice cream?
Popcorn is a good snack that has no calories, but I dont think meringue is particularly healthy, it is after all egg white and a ton of sugar!!
Please count me in too! Have been in denial for far too long - alcohol is my down fall - any tips please in knocking it on the head - well at least Mon-Thurs!!
Hello, I would love to join in too please! Am currently b/f, and have put on half a stone sice Christmas because I am unable to eat just one biscuit if there is a whole packet there for me to scoff!! Would like to lose one and a half stone in total.
I'm in, but I'm already a week ahead of you! Decided last week to impose a sugar ban. It's day 7 today... first 2-3 days were tough but it's getting easier <tentative>
Haven't weighed myself, before or after
Should I?
Don't think I can let myself have a treat atm, I would be right off the wagon otherwise!
Ok. I'm going to try this. Am on a mission to cut out the sweet stuff for DD so will join in and hopefully lose a bit of weight. Had a knee op last week though so no serious exercise other than that I'm told to do by physio (which equates to torture).
I have no will power either. But it is easier to think "I will not have this bar now, I will have it on friday". Thinking, "I am not going to have chocolate for the foreseable future" makes it impossible. Then of course, I might be able to resist on Friday.... And say, NEXT friday, etc.
For me, I eat relatively healthily, and fairly small quantities, but I ruin it all on scoffing my self with waffles, and cakes and chocs and icecreams. It has to stop.
I think I eat quite healthily. I don't eat processed foods, eat lots of fruit and veg. Should probably eat less red meat though.
My problem is sugar. I can go without, but once I have a bit THAT'S IT. Can't just have 1 biscuit, 1 bit of choc etc etc. Have got into the habit of eating ot every day
Am not overweight but have noticed recently I'm getting spotty, trousers are getting a bit tight... stopped bf about 3m ago, too
I am BF and been using it as an excuse for ages whenever I tuck into some chocolate.. I've been wistfully remembering the days when I went to the gym and ran loads, well I ate a lot then but it was all healthy stuff, if you think like a healthy person you'll eat one.
Got some online food shopping coming tomorrow and I've added loads of fruit and veg and just blueberry muffins in the 'unhealthy' category instead of chocolate bars and biscuits. I should get things like yoghurts too, I used to eat one when I fancied something sweet and whilst they do have sugar in they're not that bad... esp plain yoghurt with a bit of honey stirred in.
Count me in. This is so my weakness. Baking with DD, biscuits at work, chocolate. I'll turn over a whole new leaf with you all. Motivation - holiday in June. I don't have any scales though (too tempting to get obsessed with weight) so will go on how clothes fit!
i went out for a big carvery lunch today, so that wasn't great. but i did have lots of veg. no chocolate (but 2 of mil's homebaked scones). just had a bagel with cheese, tomato & carrots for supper.
hi, i'd like to join in too please. just stopped BF a month ago and have returned to work, so not getting out as much with the pram (one good point of DS being a poor sleeper, I got to walk loads - needed the choc to fuel me ).
Am back to pre-preg weight, but had put a stone on since getting married 6 months before I got pg, so would like to get that off if poss - esp as prob TTC again this year sometime! - my prob now is I'm back on the vino after stopping the BF, so my calorie intake has shot up .
Def up for the treat once a week - my friend has treat friday, which i think is a great idea. good luck to us all!
Fantastic! How about we all jump on the scales tomorrow morning, and get ready for a weigh in, and have ourselves a week ahead of healthy foods, and one treat at the end of it (if we can stick to just one, that is)?
I don't have scales but I would like to join in! I can put my hand up with the 'packet-eaters' and the 'terrible snackers'
Nice idea with a Friday bar QS - but can it be, say, 200 grams ??
I'm not very good at crunching an apple, but I tried for while making a bowl of fruit salad and keeping it in the fridge. That worked well when I wanted to snack - I will start again tomorrow!
Right! Weighed myself this morning for the first time for ages. I don't really need to lose any weight as I'm 53 kilos, but my face is reflecting my crap diet, so I'm hoping that by cutting out the garbage which is my everyday diet, my skin might clear up.
Going to need some hlep to do it - so thanking you in advance, ladies!
I've actually been doing this for 2 weeks on my own <sob>, and have lost (as of this morning) 2 1/2lbs. But I was rather badly behaved over the weekend...
I'm looking to loose 3/4 stone to bring me back down to pre-first baby weight (the baby's 4, btw )
Well am same weight as when had dd3 who was 2 just before Christmas! 11 stone 4 & before having dd3 was 10 stone so have one stone + to get rid of! Have never had problems losing weight before but have been trying unsuccessfully for 18 months! Please let this be for real! Am going to aerobics tonight.
I am 9st 10lb (am a shortarse) which is half a stone over my pre-pregnancy weight. While BF I have been able to more or less eat what I like, but now we've gone down to 2 BFs a day and what I eat is starting to show
I don't have scales, but have two weddings to go to and a bit of post-natal weight to shift. DS2 is 14 months now so figure the excuses are just about dried up.
I have no scales so am gonna go by clothes. My plan is to wear all my loose trousers all week, (that's ok, I can slob, kids on hols), then Saturday, try on my jeans.
Anyway, been good so far, had my coffee, (daceff) and bowl cornflakes. Have even got chicken out ready to cook tea so won't be tempted to get convenience food.
Can I join in too? By the scales this morning I'm 11st 12oz and I should definitely lose some. I'm really bad about snacking - 1 a week will be tough, but I'll try & stick to it with your help.
Anyone else have toddler-induced bingeing. I 've only just noticed that I turn to the fridge when he gets really grizzly. Hence lots of snacking gets done.
Yes I started snacking when they were babies/toddlers and tend to finish their food if they don't. Trouble is that was 10 years ago & I've still not really kicked the habit.
toddler induced eating is definitely a problem here. It makes tantrums go a little easier! I'm about to snack on some nuts. I've resolved to also steer clear of low fat/diet stuff. I rarely eat things like that anyway. Will try to snack on fruit and nuts and other low gi stuff like oatcakes. Will make normal family meals. Glad to not be alone. Mostly my resolve lasts about a week!
Hi can i join ? Threw my scales out during bathroom revamp tho and will have to go and buy some ! I think i`m about 10 12 and would love to lose a stone ?
I am constantly finishing off the bowls of food that DS leaves behind - it's not bad stuff but regular handfuls of pasta and toast soon add up. I hate wasting food, I need to cook less for him.
Bowl of cereal for breakfast with 2 cups of tea. Been out with DS, keeping busy has kept the pangs away. I'm back now but starving, handful of grapes and an oatcake I think.
oh I'm hungry ; had cereal for breakfast and 3 plums just now. Really fancy pizza or soemthing cheesy. Re: toddler food - I'm really bad with fishfingers - take off the batter for DS and gobble it. I reckon I probabaly have 2 dinners - a mini one with DS and a large one with DH.
12 stone 4lbs this am. So glad this is anonymous. Would like to be around 11 stone(ideally the high 10 side of 11 stone) Was 13 9 in Jan, but seem to be stuck now!
Porridge for brekkie, then resisted the biccies after the school run & had a banana. Haven't made fruit salad yet, but having hunger pangs now, so will go and make some
Also have 2 toddlers, so prone to hiding my head in the larder - just so they don't ask 'what are you eating, Mummy?'
No snacking so far - normally have cake for breakfast!! , and had a healthy salad lunch. Even managed to resist biscuits when kids had snacks, and after lunch.
Really having to think about it, though, so it shows how automatic it's become.
Lovely to know so many os us are there int he same boat, ready to be supportive!
Well done so far, everyone! Keep going and we'll have got the end of the first day nearly intact!
I had 1 1/2 slice of wholemeal bread with cheese and a glass of orange juice for breakfast. 1/4 wholemeal bread with erm... <whisper> nutella left over from my toddler.
For lunch, cured cooked fish with 1 potato. No treats so far!
1 slice wholemeal and one carrot with homemade hoummous for lunch with an apple and clementine. Small nibble of cheese. Have had a handful of fruit and nuts mid-morning which worked as a snack. I find staying in the house very hard. Meeting friends this afternoon, will have to avoid coffee and cake! All healthy snack ideas welcome!
OK! Have started. Black coffee, half a slice of bread, an apple and a slice of cheese! Makes a change from yesterday which was black coffee, half a loaf, half a pound of cheese, no apple and 4 choc ices
well i ought to. have gone to seed, frankly. need to get arse into exercise gear too. at least 4 times a week i fear. which is 4 times more than in the last 31 years then.... (i am exaggerating of course, but not by much)
I don't know about anyone else, but I would quite like to wean myself off sugar long-term. You know, like when someone stops smoking they generally aim to stop ^full stop^
Several years ago I stopped taking sugar in tea and coffee (my dentist scared me into it). At first I hated it but after a few months I sort of just 'switched' and now find the taste of sugary drinks disgusting.
Am hoping stopping sugar will have same effect. To the point where I won't ever think of it
Chances of me making it til teatime without eating = zero. But I'm OK as long as I stick with fruit and rice cakes.
Am I allowed a cappuccino or does it have to be skinny?
Also I don't think I could fit any more physical activity into the day, I'm running round after DS all day (and always have a morning and afternoon walk) and by the evening have to collapse on the sofa...
notnowbernard, if you want snacks that aren't bread/white carb based try oatcakes, or a little pot of yoghurt, a handful of nuts and raisins or a sliced apple and a chunk of cheese.
I am a total breadaholic but have lost weight quickly and easily before cutting out bread and sugar, which seems to 'ferment' inside me, causing all sorts of ructions!
I know! It is rather, isn't it? See, we do actually have healthy food around, but we also have a tendency to eat far too many puds and biccies and cakes - that's what I want to cut out but I find it so hard.
notnowbernard, I think this is probably right, it is possible to wean off it totally. When I was a student, I decided to stay away from anything chocolate for a year. I ate nothing that contained chocolate, and had cinnamon on my cappucino. After a few weeks the cravings stopped, and when a year later I could eat chocolate again it did not mean so much to me, at first. Then I got "hooked" again....
We've got healthy food around, too. I think that generally I eat quite well. But like you, I consume too many puddings, treats, biscuits (at work - don't have them at home) and sweets/choc
I agree, though... sugar is a bit like a drug, isn't it? You crave it, you eat it, it alters the way you feel/gives you pleasure, you crave some more... blah blah blah
Had healthy lunch (salad-y stuff and an apple) about an hour and a half ago..... feeling INCREDIBLY hungry now and as though I really need a kitkat (augh!) WIll go drink some milk.
I got down to 10st10 just before I got pg with dd. When I got pg with ds, dd was 9 months old, and because I was still bf I hadn't lost all the weight.
No idea what I weigh now but don't think I'll get down to 10st10 again. I was running 3 times a week and at the gym twice working 42 hours with no breaks or time to snack......pre-children obviously. So I'd like to get down to 11st (I'm 5'10'' btw)
Anyway the point of this rambling post was I was SO over sugar and empty calories when I got pg with dd, but the baking and coffee mornings have caught up with me.
Sounds like every-one is doing really well! Am sat at work starving & trying to resist the choc hobnobs in the corner-will now have my apple instead - not quite the same but I will be strong!!
Okay it's cup of tea time and I've just snaffled 6 bits of dark chocolate! (Really enjoyed them.) Had done well so far in avoiding half a pack of choccy biscuits mid-morning (my usual snack ), but boy have I missed it. Chicken/bacon/tomato sauce on spaghetti for lunch but I still got that mid-afternoon just-want-to-sleep-and-sleep-and-sleep moment and NEEDED that choc. Thought about nothing else for two hours! Wasn't really hungry just NEEDED it! How sad is that! Salsa tonight so at least I'll burn it off. This morning I went to the gym, so obviously I need a distraction strategy for the afternoons as well. Will have to make a plan tonight for tomorrow. I've also resolved not to buy any more goodies for our cupboards for future "moments' and think I need to buy some nuts/fruit etc. (which just don't seem to have the same appeal somehow!) Am wondering if I'm the only one .....
Has anyone else got symptoms of withdrawl???? I've got a headache, feel exhausted and fed up! I must have a true sugar addiction. It's over an hour until dinner. May hit the grapes.
it was dd2's birthday on Saturday, and the rest of her cake is in the larder. I have just given small pieces to dd2 and ds2 - and have retreated in here to log on, so I don't have to see them eat it
At least it's a change from yesterday when I snaffled about 5 small pieces through the day
Well done tickle. I am still dwelling unhealthily on the banana loaf, but nearly time to start getting the dinner ready, so the last furlong is within sight for day one.
breakfast = porridge with chopped up fruit and watered-down orange juice, coffee
lunch = omlette with chopped up leftover veg from last night, plus banana. Not 100% healthy, but I'm trying to have "proper" food for lunch, not sandwiches. Once I start on bread, I don't stop.
Have weakened slightly and had one biscuit with my afternoon coffee-and-a-sit-down. But it was only one and I am not going to have any more. No, I'm not. That's why I'm on here
