Tip of the day

Don't get in a panic over Christmas. Keep a box and put a little in it every week - small gifts, wine, nibbles, napkins etc. This way, you'll be more relaxed and less skint in December! keriku

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Hey guys iv been on sole source for 2 weeks and 2 days and have lost 11lb so im very pleased! My mum is a cambridge counsellor so I've learnt lots of tips! A lot of you are saying the shakes are not very nice but the thing is they can be, I used to hate them but now i look forward to them everyday. The trick is to use a blender with lots and lots of crushed ice and water and put on high for a few minutes. The result is a gorgeous thick milkshake that is really filling, non powdery and the chocolate one especially is amazing and I would buy it from the shop! O and drink it through a straw I find it much nicer. Also my fave thing is I get a caramel bar, a toffee bar, and a chocolate bar and cut each bar up into 16 pieces. I then divide the pieces into 3 freezer bags and put them in the freezer. In a few hours you have a bag of pick a mix treats that are hard and chewy and last longer than ur usual bar. You dont have to use all flavours, you can use one flavour such as a toffee bar an cut it up into 16 bits put in the freezer for a couple of hours and then you get a bag of toffee bites. I look forward to them everyday, an if i go to the cinema or woteva i have something to nibble on. O and also with the carton drinks put them in the freezer for quite a few hours and they turn into ice cream! I hope this helps you all and good luck!

i have the same prob with u..i got it for a week now and im not able to do it..i desire pasta..chocolates..ice creams etc.. and really its not easy to start from the first week..i feel weak..i asked her today if i can have soem bars..i dont care if i lose 1 kg per week..no need for 3kg..slowly slwoly...this diet is so easy to lose kg but so easy to lose control as well..
Well done Ali. That's not much of a gain at all smile. Good luck for this week and remember to drink lots of water.

I've been avoiding the thread in shame blush.
I gained 10lbs during the 3 weeks I was off the diet and am really struggling to get back on track.

Last week I lost 4lb. I'm due to be weighed again tomorrow and don't know if I can bear to go as I've not lost anything.

Really need to knuckle down but it's so hard after all this time off.

Hi all. I've just found this thread and have been reading through it. Im on day 3 of CD and have a nasty taste in my mouth so im taking that as a good sign.

I have about 84 lbs to lose so quite a bit to go. My next way in isnt untilcnext saturday so need a bit of motivation.

So far i've been sole sourcing 100% I havent been tempted as such but I cant stop thinking/ smelling food. I also get hungry earlier than usual. last night was quite bad but I found the internet a good distraction.

Im loving the tip about the flavoured water/jelly. I cant have them for another week or so but definately gonna be the thing i turn to if the evenings are bad.

I cant wait for the "im not hungry" feeling to kick in, Then Im hoping I can do 100% SS until goal without "cheating" although i do have a few planned deviations such as a wedding etc. then I'll do the whole protein thing that you guys suggest. does anyone/ have the same amount to lose or am im the heaviest? Anyone that's lost large amounts, it would be motivating to know.

hello all...
well ive just cancelled my weight for today...i dont feel like taking alla that shakes with me..its extra weight in my laggauge... but she recommemned that i keep in salads, vegetables, chicken or fish...so i keep my wieght that i have now... in the other hand i dont want to stop it cos im afraid i wont be able to be back to cd again..
have a nice holidays all!!!
Thanks oggsfrog. Will take a look at the website and contact the counsellor.

Have given up the wine as from today and have started using my Wii fit. It's a start!!

Have a good holiday
MaggS, you have to buy them from a counsellor. It is a very low calorie, low carbohydrate meal replacement diet. There are different levels, some of which incorporate a small meal. You need to drink a lot of water.

It does work, but you have to stick to it.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Sat 26-Jul-08 18:13:28
on the website you can click find a Counseller
Hi, Thanks for the info oggsfrog. Will look into it.I am desperate to lose weight after 3 children. I just don't seem to have any energy and I am sure that is weight related. Do you have to buy the shakes etc from a special counsellor or from a chemist / supermarket? Is it expensive?
Good luck to everyone and keep going. Well done
Toomanyshoes you are an inspiration - you've done so well!
Enjoy the birthday lunch smile.

Hello, never mind Oggs, it will be gone again before you know it! have a great holiday smile

Alinali - hope your holiday is fab too - am v envious, we're not going anywhere until the end of September.

Caykon, well done for getting started, I am also guilty of rooting around in the fridge when the children are driving me nuts. Have also managed to avoid giving in but sometimes its very hard!

Juneybean - 7lbs is a fab loss, congratulations! grin

MaggsS - let us kow how you get on. Personally, I have found this the most successful and easiest diet I have ever done. It has its hard moments but on the whole I am not hungry and I am losing weight so quickly that I feel really motivated to continue.

My weigh in was good this week, lost 5lbs so very pleased. Have now lost 2stone 3lbs in about 7 weeks. Am almost at my pre baby weight of nearly 4 years ago. Still want to lose another stone and a half or so, so will stick at it a while longer. Counsellor is away for 2 weeks now though so will have to remain motivated with no weigh day to aim for next week. Am also going out for my mums birthday lunch tomorrow so will be eating then. Will just stick to low carb and hope for the best!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Morning smile
My weigh in on Thurs went as I feared - I'd gained back the 4lb I'd lost the previous week so I'm back at 12st 3lbs.
It's my own bloody fault for not sticking to it. It's holiday fever - just allowing myself this here and that there, and far too much wine. Trouble is I've not even started my holiday yet hmm.
I've got more shakes and bars and will see the CDC again when I get back. She suggested just having one for breakfast and just doing my best for the other meals.

Ali, hope you have a lovely holiday, and manage to stick to it if that's what you decide to do.

Juneybean, well done! 7lbs is fantastic.

Caykon, keep at it. It really does work, but you have to stick to it. I try to drink about 3lt of water a day, in addition to any shakes/tea/coffee.

MaggsS - The Cambridge Diet
Hi, Can I jump in????????? Going to sound silly but desperate to lose weight. What is the cambridge diet and how do I get started??
It sounds like it really works and I am desperate to lose some weight as is DH.
I need to lose at least 2 stone and DH 4 stone . HELP!!!!!!!!!! Chocolate and wine our downfall
I've cheated all week but have managed to lose 7lbs

Was: 19stone
Now: 18stone 7lbs

Going to a wedding tomorrow so will recommence on sunday
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Fri 25-Jul-08 15:21:16
well I finally did get round to doing ss, I am now on day 4 and have honestly not cheated yet. I got very close today the dc were really winding me up and I headed straight for the fridge, had a rummage had a look in the snack drawer and in the end grabbed a can of coke zero and took deep breaths. I am so proud of myself for not caving in.
Now my ds wants to go out drinking tomorrow night!!! He likes us to go as a couple, so if i do go I can't drink on cd I will be too pissed too quick yet if I eat I will just loose my rythem, I really don't want to go. I am going to have to talk him out of it. I really want to stick at this.

Also how much water do you all drink?
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 23-Jul-08 14:36:04
grrr i got the same prob!! im leaving for prague for 5days i wil do my best not to cheat..BUT ITS IMPOSSIBLE! i wil take cd with me...but not all ...but i need to lose that 10 kg..the money that i spend on this diet cant go just like that..i lost 6 and i need another 10..i think i can do it..
i put november as my last month of cd..untill november is 4 months..i think is possible to lose 10...slowly slowly we wil all make it! right?
btw i feel my body getting a bit jelly...and i heard of collistar creams..did anyone try them?
Ohh enjoy your holiday just get back on the CD afterwards!
Ali I think I may have the same problem when I go for my weigh in on Thursday.
I've been eating bits of stuff here and there every day, and have been drinking wine blush. I'm currently showing 5lbs up on my weight last Thursday, so I'm hoping to get that off between now and then.
I'm also off on hols for 2 weeks next week and still haven't decided how to handle it.
I still want to lose another 1.5 stone, but don't want to have to take CD on hol with me.
aww noo 10kg is really good though!! Keep at it

That's great Alinali, congratulations!

I had my weigh in today and only lost 2lbs which is a bit disappointing as have stuck to sole source 100%. It's my TOTM though so am hoping its just a bit of water retention and I'll get a good loss next week. Much harder to keep motivated when i know i could have lost the same ammount on Weight watchers or something and actually had some food!
Well done Ali smile
How much have you lost in total?

Alinali - I didn't do the 3 day prep thing when I started and was fine so id just jump back in if I was you. At least having done it before you know the hunger will wear off soon and you'll feel fine.

Jayneway - I don't think an extra tetra can be considered cheating, it's not like you had a fry up and a mars bar! How much do you want to lose? It seems to be very quiet on this thread but if you want to find out anything about CD I have found minimins.com really useful (they have a Cambridge diet forum). I don't post on there but always good for an inspirational read (some amazing before and after pics!) You might already know the site but just thought it was worth mentioning! Keep posting here too though!

Hope today going well for everyone smile

All quiet on here again! Been to the local school summer fete today, surrounded by food all day! The smell of the hot dog stall nearly finished me off but managed to stick to it grin

How is everyone else?

Chocolate Spiders/Caykon - how are you both doing?

Oggs, still on track and knocking back the water?
Hello smile
Toomanyshoes, it went very quiet over on the other thread didn't it?

Spiders 2lbs is good! I can manage evenings - my problem is when I'm cooking for dd and dh. I pick.

Caykon, the best advice I can give is to find your level. I couldn't manage SS for long, so most evenings I have a small low carb meal. Usually chicken/tuna and some veg. It has slowed the weight loss but I find it easier to stick to and manage.

08.05.08 - 14st 1lb (start weight)
15.05.08 - 13st 6lb (wk 1 -9lb)
21.05.08 - 13st 3lb (wk 2 -3lb)
29.05.08 - 13st 3lb (wk 3 -0lb)
05.06.08 - 12st 10lb (wk 4 -7lb)
12.06.08 - 12st 9lb (wk 5 -1lb)
19.06.08 - 12st 6lb (wk 6 -3lb)
26.06.08 - 12st 5lb (wk 7 -1lb)
03.07.08 - 12st 4lb (wk 8 -1lb)
10.07.08 - 12st 3lb (wk 9 -1lb) Total loss 26lbs (1st 12lb)

Have struggled this last week and have been sneaking cheese, ham and other low carby things. Last night I even had chocolate and a couple of spoonfuls of chicken curry with lentils blush

Back on track and off to drink more water.

I think it is working well for me as i felt I had to stick to it for the first week as I had made such a big deal about doing it to DH! Because I stuck to it I lost 8lbs in week 1 and that spurred me on to stick to it on week 2. Has felt like that every week really, I think maybe I'll stop then get weighed and feel so pleased that another 4lbs or whatever has gone that I get another weeks supplies.
I have had moments when I've felt really bored or fed up with it but then I think about how i'll look and feel when I've lost it all and decide it's worth it.

Have found drinking tons of water helps me. Also, I have a bar for breakfast, 2 mousses in the day and a hot chocolate in the evening so am not drinking the shakes as cold drinks. Find they go too quick and I feel more deprived. I also freeze the chocolate tetras to make ice cream.

Don't get despondant and give up, I'm sure you can do it and 2lbs is still a loss! Would it help making a big bowl of jelly with the water flavourings and some gelatine and eating that in the evenings when the kids are in bed? Or maybe you could do SS+ where you have a small meal in the evening? think the losses are pretty similar to Sole Source

Hello, was on the other Cambridge thread but it's very quiet over there so thought i'd come and join in over here!
Have done 5 weeks on sole source so far and lost 1stone10lbs. Still finding it fairly easy to stick to and want to lose about 3.5 stone in total. Not sure whether I'll switch over to Slimming World or something in another month or so, will see how I feel. Only problems i'm having with CD are feeling very light headed a lot of the time and having dreadful PMT but no period!
How are the rest of you doing?
Dreamystarr, the blue booklet explains all about why you need to drink an extra 2.25l (4 pints)a day.
This is in addition to your shakes and any tea/coffee etc.

Basically the water replaces liquid that you would normally be consuming in food; keeps you hydrated; dilutes the levels of minerals etc in the shakes/bars; reduces risk of constipation and helps flush through/eliminate the waste products resulting from the breakdown of fats whilst in ketosis.

So essentially, yes, you need to drink loads smile.

I'm trying to drink as much as I can but keep forgeting but usually my goal daily is 3 litres but sometimes can only manage 2litres, So I do try but have to say could do better.

Will drinking water make a difference to my weight loss then??

lol my doctor was shouting to me for the cd diet...he said im strong enough to do normal diet.. by the way..can the CD bring dizzyness after some time of doing it? people keep asking me if im sure for what im doing with my cd..on the other hand now im eating a small sandwich... NO COMMENT..i will just begin everything from the start point...thats all i can do..im sure my councel will kill me!
dreamstarr drink too much water with the cd..water or cd by their own do nothing..thats the secret in this diet..WATER ...

by the way are u all females here?
Dreamystarr, how much water are you drinking?
Please don't take antibiotics without food/on an empty stomach.
I made that mistake two weeks into the CD and was so ill.I've never been so sick and felt dizzy, weak and absolutely awful.
Is it one tab three times a day with food?

I'd ask your doctor if taking it after your shake would be okay. It might be enough. If not stick to very low carb foods... eggs, meat, green veg in small quantities.

I took mine one tab on an empty stomach <fool> and never even made it to the second dose blush. Tbh I did mention to my Dr that I was on the CD, but I don't think he was doing joined up thinking that day.

Does have anyone have any ideas of what I can do to speed things up, i've tested and am in Ketosis and have been for a while now

I'm soooooooooo relieved I didn't put anything on after the incident involving vodka and banana cake blush

There are two Cambridge threads at the moment and I keep getting confused and have to repeat myself.
I 've been thinking that it might be an idea to make a new thread (posting a link to it on each of the existing threads) and all come together on the one new thread.
What does everybody think? smile

I can't stand the soups or a few of the shakes, so I opted for choc, choc mint and strawberry, really starting to enjoy them now!!!
I'm struggling with the water thing though and trying to make a real effort to drink more, and have heard this really helps with the loss, the more water you drink the more likey you are to loose, is this true????

I took my boys to the cinema the other day, it was difficult with the lovely smell of all the popcorn etc but i resisted, just thinking ahead to my next weight in.

20lb in 4 weeks is fantastic

i am planning to start tomorrow... but in a honesty i am dreading it...

I dont know how i will cope... and how i will stop myself from reaching for the crips etc....

no even worth getting rid of them as i would find something ie.. toast...

so how do you manage to resist everything and not blow the diet?

I am a lone parent to 2 girls and need to lose weight i have been trying to do it for the last 7 years....but i need to do it... i want my life back

even today i have had my coat on as i cant bear anyone to see my wide arse....

have posted this on the other cambridge thread aswell....

alinali, thanks for the encouragement, i had to go for a weigh in earlier than expected, so my loss was only 4lb, I truely thought it would be more perhaps 8lb but I suppose when thinking about it I had only been on cd for 5 days, but I didn't cheat at all I was very good.
I agree with you about other diets I have had the same problem, I find if I have a variety to choose from I just can't help myself, so I'm trying the all or nothing approach!!!!
So I suppose all in all compared to the other things I've tried that would have been 4 weeks worth of weight lose there...
So fingers crossed for next week!!!!

dreamstarr...to be honest i thought that cd was something imposible..and somethign like other diets of shakes that never end up well...but i was wrong...
in one month i lost 6kg..something which it could take me 6 months (i cant stand diets..i always quit on the 2nd week)
i got only shakes and bar of chocolate and i dont feel that im doing diet..cos im eating wat i want (chocolates )
dont give up..its worth it..u lose weight very easily with cd.
when u see ur first lost your wil be encourage to continue. 2-3 months of ur life doing this diet is nothing trust me..keep on!
also!! if u feel like cheating strongly..then just get a small bite of what u desire..NOT MORE!
i lost two stone last summer fairly easily, then dh got ill so i put it all to one side. i never got around to using my last week and half lot.

its all choc (which i think goes out of date today), cappachino, vanilla and coffee/walnut IIRC.

i am loathe to bin them.

Hi all, I started the diet on Thursday last week, felt rubbish the first 2 days but by saturday I felt great, but then went out to meet some friends and had a few glasses of wine!!! So I'm really dissapointed in myself and am keeping my fingers crossed that I'll lose a good amount in my first week.

On looking at the thread everyone seems to be doing really well, I hope I do as well as you all, my worst fear on this diet is failure, although I have to say didn't take the drinking of water very seriously until I read this so I will from now on try very hard to drink at least 3 litres of water. So if anyone has some tips for me please do let me know I need all the help I can get

thats why i;ve asked.. cos i heard as well hat exercise is not allowed during CD....anyway my councellos left for two weeks for uk and im thinking im doing a day off...but in the other hand i weighted my self and i found another 2 kg down..so i think i wil be stupid to do that...but its summer i desire an ice cream!!!!

You can't sell them on ebay anymore cause CD and LL have put a stop on it - they are barred as Drug & Drug Paraphenalia!
Bloody vodka.
Bloody banana and choc chip cake.
Bloody idiot blush

<kicks self hard>
Did you have much success on the diet Misdee?
I only like a few of the flavours so wouldn't be worth it for me, thanks.
i know this a bit naughty, but want to offer these to ladies who know what they are doing. i have a weeks + supply of CD powder packets from last summer in my cupboard. they are dated june, july and august 08. does anyone here want them for £20 posted? i dont want to sell them on ebay as dont feel happy about selling them on to someone who may not need them iykwim.

i cant use them myself as am 20 weeks pregnant.

well done on the loss oggs and you ali. (LOL at flimsy clothes and shaving, been there done that)
I have fallen so bad that I have not had any CD food today only 'normal' food and half a bottle of wine. Am seriously considering jacking it all in and joining WW!!!! - So quite a big fall I would say!

I read somewhere that you shouldn't exercise on CD. I will do some research and confirm my sources and let you know. Think it is because it forces your body to start using the wrong energy or something

Must try harder this week. I'm extremely relieved to have lost something in spite of my potato fiasco blush smile
I occasionally exercise and yes it does help.

Are you still trying to Sole Source Ali? If you are cheating every day would you not be better moving up and allowing a 'meal' rather than cheating?

are u people doing exercises? if yes does it help to lose more?
<Hoicks Grumpy up by her bootstraps and dusts her off, ready to start again>

How big a fall was it?

Well I'm off to be weighed <eek> this morning. In preparation I have selected my flimsiest clothes. I have a very thin cotteon short sleeved blouse and a pair of cut off cotton trousers (frankly I'll look a plank as it is peeing down with rain, but needs must).
I also had a bath last night and in desperation removed all hair from underarms and legs and took the nailvarnish off my toes... and contact lenses weigh less than glasses, right?

Wish me luck smile

OK, I have fallen - badly. Feeling shitty about it but obviously not shitty enough to stop myself from stuffing my face
Yes, I suppose I could get a bar - good thinking that woman smile. I can't stomach the cartons - I tried a frozen banana one and it made me heave.
Will have to experiment on the scales in different outfits to find the lightest one grin.
I'm still on track. Have had one Fruit of the Forest shake split between breakfast and lunch and 3lt of water <virtuous>.
I'll have a strawb or banana one soon, and my hot choc and mint in bed.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Tue 24-Jun-08 16:03:01
Can't you get a ready mixed carton or take a bar??? - that will mean facing your CDC though. Go on be brave, you might be suprised?? (wear thin trousers and a small top and maek sure you go for a wee before being weighed!!)
You will be my inspiration Grumpy smile.

Scales down to 12st 6.5 this morning so not feeling quite so desperate, but can't face CDC on Thurs and am thinking of cancelling blush ( I have enough shakes to see me through another week).

Need to replicate yesterday (3 shakes and a thumbnail of cheese) but drink even more water.

I'm helping on a school trip next week and am expected to take a packed lunch and eat with the children. Aaarrgh! I'll either have to say my tummy is off and starve, or somehow take a shake with me, maybe water in a screw top bottle, adding the shake at lunchtime. There will be questions though and I don't want to have to admit to dieting in front of children blush

ohhh Oggs what have you done!!!! smile Nevermind just move on and ge back to it and stay away from the spuds. Why is it that once we trip up a bit we all go tumbling and start gorging on all the things we have been avoiding.

Hate to tell you that I have just done my first weekend without even licking my fingers! I managed to avoid the whole family eating a mcdonalds tonight too (I don't even really like them but the smell was sooooo good) I just munched quietly on a cranberry crunch bar!!

My scales already twitch at 12st 4.5 so I feeling encouraged! So desperate to get into the 11s.
Better day. Half a banana shake for breakfast, same for lunch.
I'm currently enjoying hmm an oriental chilli soup. At bedtime I'll have a hot choc and mint. Have drunk 2 and a half litres of water so need to drink more.
Baked a huge banana, choc chip and cinnamon cake for dh and dd <sob>
Ohhhh, I was baaaaaaaaaaaad sad

I ate spiced raisin bread and butter, a chocolate biscuit, yorkshire pud, steamed potatoes (2 varieties Red Duke of York and Mayan Gold - both very nice) and a cup of chi made wih cream and sugar shock Oh and 2 cans of diet coke also.

Consequently the scales are not looking upon me favourably this morning whispers 12st8^^and a half blush

So I am SSing with a vengeance and feeling like an idiot for ballsing it up so comprehensively. I could have just had 2 small potatoes to taste, but oh no, Miss Piggy here goes the whole hog.

Were you good Grumpy?
Well done. I'm going to commit the cardinal sin of potato eating this evening shock blush blush

I always have this problem at this time of year. Dh grows loads of veg and the first potatoes are ready. They are a new variety that I persuaded him to grow and I need to do a taste test.

I know it's going to fling me straight out of ketosis and I will have to SS strictly from tomorrow. And up my water intake drastically.
Another problem is that since I know I will be coming out of ketosis all the bad foods are calling loudly to me. I'm currently resisting the siren song of the chocolate biscuits blush

well I have stuck to it 100% so far and I always find the weekends REALLY difficult so I am pleased with myself.
I had started picking on cheese and meat (and anything else low/zero carb I could find) so I have just stopped all that cause I obviously can't control myself! all or nothing!
I am sooooo hungry though but I will not fail!!!!
I'm wearing size 16 trousers and an 18 top at the moment hmm. No way would a size 12 fit sad.

I think I'm going to have to follow your lead Grumps and really go for it. I'm desperate to get into the 11st zone.
I'm doing 2 shakes a day plus a meal but my meal has been getting increasingly bigger and I've been picking at cheese and meat during the day too. I'm sticking to low/zero carb stuff to stay in ketosis but need to quit the picking and pare down my meal.
I'm also drinking coffee with double cream today (low carb) as I have a hangover from too many gin and diet tonics last night blush. Need to drink much more water also.

It's so bloody hard that i swear to jesus i will never put this weight back on. Am heading towards a size 12. V. exciting. I look much skinnier and apart from jelly belly have much better shape. hope i lost something at least
Only 2lbs gain for 9 days off, that seems like a good trade off grin.

I have to say I'm with you on the water front Grumpy. The one thing that seems to majorly influence the weight loss is the water consumption.
I'm currently only managing about 3 litres so will try to up it. Unfortunately I have to drink bottled water as our water supply comes directly from a river and isn't safe to drink unboiled.(I never seem to get round to boiling and decanting it and it would cost a fortune in gas to do that anyway)

I'm off to do some walking (2 miles uphill) armed with a water bottle smile.

HI everyone. I have been too shamed to post in the last couple of weeks but I have been reading all your posts. I completely fell off the wagon and had a week (9days!!) of eating anything and everything that I craved. I got weighed and had put on 2lb. Not too bad but not great. Stuck to it like glue since last Monday and was weighed on Friday and had lost 4.5lb. So really pleased and have found new motivation.
Find the weekends really hard - trying to stay off the wine which inevitably leads to eating something I shouldn't (just like today) I am not going to be crap again. Back on it now am gonna have a bar in a little while and drink shit loads of water.
I have had 6litres a day, every day for the last week and I thank that for my weight loss. I truly believe that volume of water is directly linked to amount of weight loss
08.05.08 - 14st 1lb (start weight)
15.05.08 - 13st 6lb (-9lb)
21.05.08 - 13st 3lb (-3lb)
29.05.08 - 13st 3lb (-0lb)
05.06.08 - 12st 10lb (-7lb)
12.06.08 - 12st 9lb (-1lb)

So, at end of my fifth week I've lost 20lbs in total (1st 6lb). I was hoping for more of a loss last week tbh as I've been walking lots sad.

I want to get down to at least 11st, so I've got another 22lb to go. I always seem to get stuck at around 12.5st so I really need to be strict.

I think I need to be very careful with the meal I've introduced as the quantity seems to be creeping up blush.

Please keep posting everyone as I need the inspiration/motivation smile.

Eating carbs will take you out of ketosis. Get back on track and you'll be back in it within a day or two. If you absolutely must cheat then try to stick to protein or green veg.
Tbh if you are not managing to stick to Sole Source maybe you'd be better moving onto Sole Source Plus? I'd speak to your CDC about it.

I am so chuffed. I got weighed today after being totally crap and cheating loads over the bank holiday weekend and I haev actually lost 3.5lbs!!! I also asked her to do my measurements and I have lost 5 inches off my waist and 3 off my hips, bit too much off my chest and a bit off legs and arms. I am so pleased with myself. I have changed my weigh days to Fridays so that I capture my motivation over the weekend cause I find it easier to stick too through the week.
Bleurgh... I tried a frozen banana tetra last night and it was vile. I only ate half of it.

I actually don't mind the shakes. I use a blender and have never had any lumps.
True, I wouldn't choose to drink them otherwise, but as a means to an end they are bearable.

I drink the butterscotch one hot as I miss hot milky drinks.

I bought some psyllium husk yesterday and added a teaspoonful to my hot butterscotch. Ack....ack....bleurgh... it went all glue-like/mucusy/stringy.... ack! In future I'll have to add it to cold drinks only.

the shakes are truly the work of the devil. Put a choc tetra brik in freezer for a couple of hrs = really nice ice-cream. Mix a tetra brik with coffee for breakfast. I think it's the high levels of maltodrextin (basicaly glue meant to make you feel full - used a lot in processed shitey food) in the shakes that make them so stomach-turning. had another slice of cake this evening but otherwise stuck to the diet. Just got to accept that I feel the need to cheat a lot at moment, maybe I want to be fat??

well i dont feel like taking the low carb diet..i just feel like starting the CD now...can i?!?!
Alinali, I was already following a low carb diet when I started the CD so I was already in ketosis.

If you have any problems with IBS or constipation I would advise taking some sort of bulking agent like psyllium husks/fybogel and making sure you drink at least the minimum amount of water recommended.

This diet is boring, but you won't feel hungry and you should feel a sense of wellbeing.

Good luck smile

With difficulty Grumpy, if you're anything like me smile.

how do i get back to it again??
Bugger. Bugger. Bugger.
Good intentions aren't enough to ensure success during four days of festival sad.

Started off okay, but have long running IBS/constipation probs and had HUGE problem. Tried fybogel (in very large amounts) but nothing doing. Was in so much pain/distress I made the decision that I really needed to get some fibre into me to shift things along - so I ate.
I didn't scoff sweets/cake/crisps or anything like that, but I was on a fibre mission which unfortunately means carbs. I had veg and lentil soup, seeded wholegrain bread, baked beans, falafel, salad etc.
Thankfully it worked smile, but I'm having to start all over again.
I also know now that I need to take fybogel as a matter of course and not just when problems arise.

So all in all, I'm fatter but wiser and most importantly not in any pain smile.

How's everyone else doing?

welcome, personally the tetra bricks are best. I can no longer stomach any of the other cambridge products but think i'm probably the exception as most people find them fine. If you stick to the diet you won't be hungry after the first 3 days as you are in ketosis (google it!) and you will lose loads of weight without feeling hungry. I have sneaked the odd bit of extra cheese/meat and haven't gone out of ketosis.
Had my week 3 weigh-in today and lost another 5 lbs, so 16lbs in 3 wks NOT BAD!!!!

30/04 - 14st 6lb (start weight)
07/05 - 14st (-6lbs)
14/05 - 13st 9lb (-5lbs)
21/05 - 13st 4lb (-5lbs)

20kgs is around 44lb. Ideally you could lose around 14lb a month so 20kgs should take around 12 weeks. I have lost 14lb in 4 weeks and have 25 still to go!!

HI

so eggfried - did you cheat atall?? did you put on ever?

well done oggs another 3lb gone forever. I have been tempted by the drink too and would def go for Vodka if you have to have a drink.

alinali - come on join in. we can all do it together. Get yourself in the mindset, try not to think about food. we all have different opinions on the shakes and soups, personally I cannot stand anything in powder form cause when I mix it it is either frothy or lumpy - sometimes both. I only have ready mixed milkshake or the bars.

I got weighed yesterday and only lost 1lb. I don't feel bad cause I know why - I had a binge on Monday. Totally random but I ate all the things that have been taunting me from the kitchen cupboards.

im new here..im thinking of starting this cambridge diet...but im not sure about it cos there is no solid food...just the shakes..as iv've heard...dont u people get hungry with only 3 "meals"??? i need to loose 20kg...how much time it might take me?hmm
<looks around> It's a bit quiet on here isn't it? Where are you all?
Right. Weigh day today (a day early as can't go tomorrow) and I'm another 3lbs down.

08.5.08 - 14st 1lb (start weight)
15.5.08 - 13st 6lb (-9lbs)
21.5.08 - 13st 3lb (-3lbs)
Oh, well done you... <looks up at eggfried in awe> smile

Have you never, never, ever, not ever cheated at all?
I'm on day 11 and have a four day music festival any day now and am trying to get myself into the right frame of mind to be able to cope.
TBh it's the drink that's tempting me more than the food. Was going to allow myself a small amount of vodka (least carbs).

hi all

i've just found this thread and i've been doing CD for 12 weeks now. going into week 13 tomorrow.

i've lost 51.5lbs in this time. i've spent 10 weeks on ss and 2 weeks on ss+ (4 shakes + milk or 3 shakes + 200cal meal) - 600 cals aprox.

this diet does work 100% if you stick to it.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Mon 19-May-08 16:14:21
am not doing too well on the diet - have not cheated as such but am feeling increasingly nauseous, like morning sickness (am NOT pregnant btw). i mustn't be drinking enough water but could only manage a couple of sips of tetra brick this morning and felt awful, really shivery & bad indigestion, even water tasted "off". had some coke zero last night - could this have caused it? had a pot of "full-fat" cottage cheese for lunch feel better but worried i've gone off the diet. has anyone else experienced this sort of thing and got back on track? Will have to start doing sole source plus.

well i got a few good comments of 'ohh you've lost weight' so am really pleased. not happy about the fact that i had a binge yesterday. i had a row with dp and reached for the sweet stuff. i am so cross with myself. the scales still look like i havt about 3lb this week. get weighed tomorrow.
how was everyones weekend?

well done oggs.
I am going away for the weekend but I am really determined not to 'eat' this time. Am going to see loads of people I have not seen for a while so I am secretely hoping they are all going to comment on my weight loss!!!hmm
Anyone heard from binkle???
Morrning ladies, you are all doing well! Been a while since I looked at this thread!
I have a nasty chest infection at the moment so the diet is on hold for me. (I am trying to lose a few pounds for my holiday) I have antibiotics and have spent much of the last 2 days in bed!
Hopefully by monday I will be able to get back on it!
I've realised that I'm going to need to do some exercise if I'm going to shift this weight.
So joining TCM in the eighties theme I'm going to dig out my Beverley Callard workout video and give it a go hmm

well done!!
my first target is 11 stone but i would really like to get down to 9st 7lb. If i could get to 11 stone with the cambridge diet by the end of July and then lose the last stone and a half with a conventional "food" diet and loads of exercise. I would be so happy. I was 10 stone before getting pregnant and am a bit freaked out that i will never be happy with how i look again. i am also going to start doing callanetics. i used to do a class and it really tones you up. Have the video and book but couldn't motivate myself before. Will report back if i manage to do the workout tomorrow morning while DS at nursery. i am very 1980's in my approach to weight-loss!
Weigh day today.... and after the first week I've lost 9lb grin. Stocked up on shakes and gave the soups a miss this week.

Grumpy, I want to lose 50lb... 9 down, 41 to go hmm

Well done grin.

had week 2 weigh-in today - lost 5lb, so am now down to 13st 9lb grin i'm delighted - 11lb in 2 weeks. can no longer stomach the shakes or bars at all, even the thought of them makes me nauseous. So will be sticking to choc tetra bricks/cartons and soups. oh god tell me i will keep this weight off, freaking me out a bit how quickly the weight is coming off.
Why are they called bricks rather than cartons? hmm
Thanks for the input Squiffy. I still haven't decided what to do yet. The majority of the food available will not be burgers, but lamb kebabs (with pitta, cous cous, salad, roasted veg, salsa), felafel, crépes with fillings, fresh curries, porridge, and soups etc.
The alcohol is tempting 'cos it is local brewed real ales, heather, gooseberry, ginger etc sad
Have to do more thinking....
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 14-May-08 10:09:41
oggsfrog, try taking the ready made 'bricks' with you to the festival (personally I think the chocolate ones are better than the banana ones). They are only about 20p more than the powder shakes but I think taste miles better and you can carry them around.

If you do decide to eat stick to meat/cheese ONLY (salads may be healthy but they are all carbs so you may drop out of ketosis). This is the advice my CD counsellor gave me because I do lots of business meetings over lunch so couldn't avoid eating sometimes. With the bricks & the odd burger without bap you should be ok during the festival.

The problem with alcohol of any kind is not just the calories it contains but also the calories you consume the next day if you get hungover. Not worth it, IMHO

The water is called Perfectly Clear. I had a look at a lot of the flavoured water in Asda and there were quite a few that use Malic Acid instead of citric acid. Quite useful to know if you are struggling with plain boring water!!!
Had a bad reaction to an antibiotic yesterday so only got down 1 shake before I spent afternoon and evening vomiting.
Feel better today and am not taking any more tabs.
Just tried Leek and Potato... Yuk! Can't say I've actually enjoyed any of the soups.

Well done Grumpy. Hope the addition of celery and cucumber make it easier to bear smile

I have just had my weigh in. Week three adn I am pleased to say that I have lost 3.5lb. I really thought I would stay the same again and was questionning whether I could continue cause the guilt of cheating was getting too much.
So I have renewed motivation now.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

Exciting news from my CDC. There is some flavoured water that you can buy from the supermarket that we can drink. The brand name completely escapes me right now but if you said it I would remember. Only Strawberry and Kiwi flavour though. They will not bring you out of ketosis cause they do not have citric acid they have malic (sp?) acid instead. I will update when I think of the name

Also, my main problem is that I pick. So she has said that if I am going to pick then I can have celery and/or cucumber cause they are mostly water and will not take me out of ketosis. So I feel really pleased now and feel like I could do this.

1lb away from 1 stone. Did you know that more often than not people notice your weight lose only after you have lost 1 and a half stone.
Thanks NurseJo and SMM smile
I'll see how I feel closer to the time.
I've looked at that forum but to be honest I'm blinded by all the tickers and keep getting lost in there blush. Think I've seen you SMM smile
Prior to CD, I was low carbing for 2 years and have never had any problems drinking whilst in, and remaining in ketosis, but I see your point. I'd rather remain SS than up my intake though, so I'll have to have a think.
I'm down 8.75lbs already but am used to this during the first week. I'm waiting to see how I get on in my second week once all the fluid has gone.
Hi Oggsfrog
Its not a good idea to have alcohol while in ketosis. It can make you very ill without some carbs in your system. I would talk to your CDC about being on the 1000 calorie plan while you are away. The reason is, the 1000 plan has some carbohydrates in it.
Have a look on www.minimins.com at the Cambridge Diet forum, theres a sticky thread there explaining the dangers of alcohol and ketosis.

Oggsfrog, you may find that once you have reached two weeks you are so pleased with your weight loss you wont want to "cheat".The other key point to be aware of when you are in Ketosis,is that supposedly "Citric Acid" takes you out of it(I didn't realise this),so Citric Acid is in alot of things such as some chewing gums, and drinks. Also some salad items I believe. If you consume any extra calories you will start to replace your Glycogen stores, which are used up in your first week, making your weight loss even greater. If this happens,it could mean a weight gain of 7lb+ so I'm told.
As long as you are aware, then you can make an "informed" decision. My advice would be as you say NOT to "jeopardise" your weight loss,as its much, much harder to "start" again.Hope you don't feel I'm preaching,as each day is a struggle for me too,and theres always something coming up that I want to "cheat" for. . . smile

Morning, I'm looking for advice.....

At the point when I will have been SS for two weeks I've got a 4 day festival which usually means lots of food/drink.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to abstain from everything.
I understand the ketosis business (former low carber), so I'm thinking maybe to just have some protein/salad and stick to vodka and diet tonic which hopefully wont bring me out of ketosis.
Or I can totally deny myself food and drink (and probably be a pain in the bum to be with hmm)
Any thoughts?
(I suppose I'm not actually looking for advice, more like somebody to either give me permission to cheat, or to tell me in no uncertain terms not to be so stupid as to jeopardise the weight loss hmm blush)
Oooh ta grumpybum! grin

I regained a stone of the weight I lost on CD last year so I am still 2 1/2 stones to the good, but I didn't lose as much as I would have liked so its now my mission to get back on it!
Being a CDC now, its quite hard cos theres no one to kick you up the bum!! grin

Juneybean, after the 1st week I think you can buy the flavour powder to add to water to make it like squash, just can't have it in the first week though until you are in ketosis. That might helpsmile
I really love the taste of the chocolate block milkshakes. I just can't drink water, it's so boring I'm going to start this tomorrow though!
Every day at moment but only on day 4 so still clearing out I presume.
I use fybogel as I had problems when low carbing.

Day 3 and I'm still here smile.
We went out yesterday so I had to have my lunch at 12:30 and I couldn't get my third shake until we got back which was 10pm.
We went to the theatre and my stomach was rumbling very loudly throughout. Had a black coffee afterwards while dh and dd scoffed burgers and chips hmm.

Sneaked a peek at the scales and I'm down 5.75lbs already. (It has given me more motivation, although I know from low carbing that the initial loss is water.)

Not had a shake/soup yet that I find unbearably disgusting.
Shows what a refined crap palate I have hmmgrin

Apparently its changed since February, you used to have to "step up" to start the maintenence plan, and eat from the list of foods, mainly being a small piece of chicken or fish, with green salad items,or green vegetables (ie. "green and white") but now you can do it as an alternative to sole source, called sole source plus.It bumps the calories up to 800,but still contains virtually no Carbs,so weight loss is still good. Its all in the "yellow book", explains about all the different steps towards maintenence.Your CDC should have the booklet to give you.grin

nursejo - what do you mean 'green & white'?
Yes, my belly is still rumbling off those bars I think hmm
Don't think I want to go there with the choc bars. Not a great fan of chocolate anyway and think I'll find it easier not to eat anything at all.
Is anyone else on just sole source?

Binkleandflip, isn't funny about how different the CDC are? I have 3 different ones,I have previously been advised I could have the "Green and white" part of the sole source plus,at weekends, and SS during the week,my present CDC has explained why this is foolish to do this, which makes sense. Also with the choc bars, they can take some people out of Ketosis, and can "upset" your digestion,so advise only 1 a day, from your 2nd week onwards.hmm

Oggsfrog, I have that problem with forgetting to drink enough, now have a tick chart on fridge to keep tally.I try to have a glass just before my sachet, and one with,or just after. At least then I have had 6 glasses, plus anymore that I can in between.I try to drink my last at 7pm, so I don't get an interrupted night.Keep going, the "easier" stage is just a day or two away.grin
Morning Oggy!!

That's a real bugger when you go to bed and realise you've still got three pints to go isnt it?

I had two bars last night as the counsellor told me to eat them along with the shakes because my stomach has been rumbling so much - it was SO much worse for eating the bars sad you know that kind of IBS/colicky pain you get down low?

Wont be doing that again or at least will have one in the morning so it has time to process <bleurgh!!>

No Oggsfrog they changed it in feb 08,you don't need a docs signature now,if you start SS, your CDC will probably ask your permission to inform them, thats all. Some CDC do a "starter week",but most don't. I quite like (?) the Chick & Mush Soup,Vegetable and Mushroom. My DH loves the spicy tomato.I'd say give them a go,just one of each that you fancy,at least you'll have more choice if you do like them.wink

Hi,My DH and I are doing CD too. Both of us are doing Sole Source. In the first 10 days he lost 18 lb, I lost 11 lb.We are into our 3rd week now.We found the BH weekend very hard, with trips out etc.so we faltered a little, but are determined to lose 1-2 stone on SS, and then another stone on Maintenance.Keep going,it gets easier as soon as the hunger goes. The weight loss will motivate you.We have settled on a few flavours that we like, but most of all we look forward to a choccy bar in the evening, cut up into lots of pieces to savour! How sad are we?? Good Luck!Don't forget the CD website, you can track your weight loss, read tips and experiences, all helps.grin
I've been reading the thread and from what I can see the Broccoli and Cheese is to be avoided at all costs grin.
I think I'll go for mainly shakes - the butterscotch, toffee and walnut and choc mint sound good.
Do I have to get a form signed by my doctor? If so does that mean I can't start until I have their signature?
Welcome Oggs grin

I didnt have to do loads of preparation, I just turned up for the appt and when you tell her you already drink loads of water, eat low carb etc I expect your already well prepared!!

Just a word of advice cos I like yer wink grin

a-hem...

DO NOT HAVE THE SOUPS IF YOU CAN HELP IT - THEY ARE GRIM!!!!
Can I join you all? smile
I've got my first meeting tomorrow with a cdc and don't know what to expect. Will she expect me to do a weeks preparation before I can actually start the diet? I already eat low carb, and drink about 2-3litres of water a day. Just want to get cracking.

Well done binkleandflip, here's mine:

Starting weight 30/04/08 14.6
Weighed 07/05/2008 14.0
Week 1 Lost 6lb

I'm afraid I cracked last night, was feeling really pissed off and had a little bit of dinner (homemade green curry!) and a packet of maltesers and some crisps. Was v. hungry and felt so much better afterwards.

Talking to the consellor woman today she reckons I never went into kestosis as also had full-fat milk in coffee a couple of times. I have the sticks so can check this week. Am pleased with weight loss and feel I can do this now.
think its a great idea, here's mine so far:

Starting weight 26/4/08 : 13.8 stone
Weighed 3/5/08 : 13.1 stone
Lost: 7lb

Next weigh in 8/5/08
Next week will be better grumpy - I'm sure by then a loss will show and that will motivate you. I've had salad today - more than I should have - felt very bloated and cross with myself that I'd messed up the diet - drank six pints of water today so far to make up for it - hope I havent done much damage!!

Well that serves me right, Just been to weigh in and I am exactly the same!! I have been weighing myself at home so had an idea I would be around the same. I have been pretty rubbish this week so I am too suprised. I have cheated the cambridge diet but still thought a couple of pounds would have been realistic.

Anyway this has given me some thinspiration for next week. I AM GONNA STICK TO IT THIS WEEK if it kills me. (gonna look back at this thread regularly to remind myself of my determination in moments of weakness)
Have stocked up on the limited things that I actually like (can bear) to eat, so I am all set. Vegetable soup, Choc velvet bricks and chewy bars!!!

I hope you are all doing better than me!!

Weigh-in tomorrow so will report back on pounds lost. 1 week down, 11 to go!
do you get weighed on thursday then? Well done for getting through the weekend!!

my jeans are literally slipping off this morning - they are a size 16 at the mo so I cant wait until I can slip into a 14 again comforatably, that will be a big moment for me!!
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Mon 05-May-08 21:49:46
also got through first weekend! was in mcdonalds today with DS and didn't nick any of his chips just had a black coffee grin Clothes a bit looser too so hopefully I can keep this up. Was quite tempted to eat something today but didn't.
Well, I've survived my first weekend on the diet and I must say I feel pretty good, clothes getting gradually looser and I've got high hopes for my weigh-in on Thursday.

Hope everyone is getting on ok too!!
Aw well, grumpy, it is bank holiday weekend after all so if you're going to be naughty now is as good a time as ever grin

I've managed to avoid wine etc but I have fallen into the trap of Marks and Spencer Percy pigs - I've had three - not the end of the world and I reckon I might just get away with it grin

Really pleased for you binkle - keep it up.

I had 2 glasses of wine - I am so rubbish! Plus I have eaten actual food this weekend so I am not hoping for any decent results when I get weighed on Tuesday.
thanks Spooky - good to know you are around for extra advice and guidance!!

I have been weighed today - a couple of days early as I went to swap the soups - I have lost 7lb in five days!! I'm so chuffed with myself! As the counsellor said, as with any diet, most of that is water - but now the real good stuff starts happen and the next weigh in will be all fat!!

I too could really go for a nice wine but I'm not going to give in smile

Juat had a choc/peanut bar. Starts off ok then ends up tasting the same as the everything else!!!!
I really fancy a glass of wine. It is bright sunshine, bank holiday weekend and I have just finished work!! Tempted but not sure I could stop at one glass adn sure it would throw ketosis out of the window! Oh well, another pint of water it is then....
A friend of mine said I looked like i had lost weight today - have not seen him in a while so I am really pleased. Partner said my belly looks flatter cause the other day it looked huge (great cheers, compliment was overshadowed by the insult)
Morning ladies.

I am a Cambridge Counsellor as well as being back on it myself to shift a few pounds for my holiday!

I lost 3 1/2 stones in 13 weeks.

Few tips, weight. If you must weigh, do it in a morning!
Ketosis. Ketostix are available from your counsellor and again, test in a morning, but if you have the symptoms of ketosis (bad breath, feeling cold, not hungry or not as hungry) then don't bother with the tests. Ketosis usually hits in day 3.

Shakes can be had hot or cold and I always say to my ladies add water to taste. If you want more water in them its fine.

Tetra briks can also be frozen to make ice cream. It makes a hard ice cream though, so when you take it out of the pack then defrost it in the microwave for a minute to soften it up a bit.

You can add herbs and stuff to the soups, as long as its not salt or garlic so have a look what you have at home to make them a bit more exciting.

A stick blender is best for making up the packs ans you don't get the dreaded lumps!

Hope this helps, anything I can help with feel free to CAT me or ask on here smile
well thats constructive of your dp hmm

I feel a bit off today. Havent been able to swap my soups yet and yesterday went a bit awry. My dd's birthday - my mum made a little tea party for the family and basically bullied me (in a nice way) endlessly to eat something - bless her - its not like I'm wasting away grin I havent told her I'm dieting and to keep the peace I had a slice of turkey and a scotch egg no cake or anything though so hopefully that wont have sabotaged it too badly.

I quite like the choc mint hot - it isnt too bad like that.
Well I will most definately be going for this on Monday when DP gone agaian, since he has just informed me I look like I have put on weight since he has been away hmm

Day 1 - haven't cracked - chicken & mushroom soup ok - choc mint shake edible. Don't feel hungry per se. The lumps are pretty gross though. Just thinking of how good I'll feel when this is weight is gone.

Hi all. Really glad everyone seemd to be at a similar stage and a similar amount of weight to lose - it helps to keep me going.

Had choc mint for dinner just now and it was gross. I bought a hand blender (£3 from Asda) cause I was struggling to get rid of the lumps.
Am living off vegetable soup and choc tetras with coffee, black coffee and water.
I weighed myself on my scales at home and regretted it cause I was heavier than when the counsellor weighed me. Am going to check my ketosis in a minute - hopefully that will keep me going.
Keep going everyone. I just squidge my fat belly when I question why I am doing this!

Hi,

Can I join in? I started last Monday, so had Wednesday weigh in after ten days rather than seven and had lost eight pounds. I feel really well.

I would ideally like to lose another three stones, but my aim for now is a BMI below 30.

Buns
GEntleOtter where in the highlands is your frined we may have the same councilllor?
Am going to swap the soups tonight - I really cant stomach them though I find the sweet ones really alright.

I think what is spurring me on if that fact that it is day four and I have sat amongst my friends scoffing pizza etc and I have held out which I never thought I would so I know I CAN do this and watching the weight drop off my SIL has also really inspired me as we have tried diets together before and never lost a significant amount.

Think its great that there are a few of us on MN starting altogether smile

Weigh-in on Sunday - if I havent lost at least half a stone I'll be livid angry then it will be very hard not to binge to spite myself - that will be the real test.

But today I feel good, hungry but good. Done my little wee stick - I am in ketosis. Dont like the sound of it but if my Dr says ok then ok it is (he signed to say I could do diet)
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Thu 01-May-08 11:21:42
Just started this morning and the shake was pretty awful but don't feel hungry at all more borderline nauseous hmm Have 3 atone to lose and really need to do something about it at this stage. What is the ketosis (sp?) stage like - don't like the thought of being cold or bad breath.
Oh...all excited! I phoned my nearest councillor (Dunfermline and MILES away) so will be getting everything on Monday!
My friend up in the Highlands is going to try it as well and we have a fair amount of weight to shift between us.
Today, I have to stop carbs and bread is my main love.sad
Did you find it easy or difficult at first or did the thought of losing weight spur you on ?
Thanks binkle!

if your counseller is near to you. you could nip in and swap the soups...
Definately have a great weekend with your dp and start afresh on Monday Ineed!! Hopefully my weigh in on Sunday will inspire us both to keep at it!!

Grumpybum, thats a great weighloss!! 39lb is just under three stone right so we have got about the same to lose.

Had a chocolate (hot) for my supper - really not too bad at all, its just that the soups are backing up...need to start having them or I'll end up having them for every meal at weekend which would NOT be good <bleurgh>

I have the internet back which is fab grin
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 30-Apr-08 19:45:55
I have 39lbs to lose in total. 9 down, 30 to go.
For the first time I felt a bit wobbly and decided I really needed to eat something. So I cooked a really healthy but filling roast dinner. Now I have eaten it I feel really full up and a bit sick!!! Can't win.
AM going to go back to it tomorrow morning and stick to it for the rest of the week - just taking one day at a time as I can't think about not eating for the next 10weeks!!!
I want to lose 5lb this week so I get my first stone out of the way but I am not very hopeful!
Lol you are just melting away.
I am going to give it a proper go maybe start again on Monday, my lovely hmm better half is home tomorrow after 5 weeks away and he is only home this time for the weekend so might let him take me out for my last supper then go for it when he is away again.
Pleasehold my hand grin
Also I think with the money I am paying out I owe it to myself to not cheat.

Nothing to lose but the weight and all those other cliches lol

i am really hungry now though - my fat stores must just be melting away hmm grin
I am £46 a week because I am over 5' 8" I have 4 sachets a day instead of 3.

I might consider the souls source B.
Thanks for the link binkle.
I'm not sure if they are similar but what with the shakes and councilling. LL is £66 per week shock and I did not like the video that seemed really repetetive each week.
That said, I lost a stone really quickly and had bags of energy - that was the problem.
I started to wake at 4 am and used to wake my DH too. Then the weight started to mysteriously creep up.
I had no idea that I was pregnant but was asked to leave as soon as I told them (about 12 weeks)
The Cambridge seems to have more choice plus a one to one councillor. I'm going to e-mail them now.
Ooh Was Lighter Life no good then? Is it similiar?
Here's a link
Yes, I have been thinking about it binkle especially after the disaster with Lighter Lifeblush
My nearest councellor is in Stirling though and that is MILES away.
go on the website and find a counsellor near you - make an appt where you fill in medical form, are weighed/measured and then you buy your sachets for the week. You have an appt with the counsellor each week to be weighed, have a chat about how its going and to get your next weeks supply

It cost me £34 for the weeks supply and the counselling one-to-one.

I dont think it bad to be honest because of course, I am spending less on normal food for me for the time-being. Are you thinking of it Gentle? We have only just started so now might be a good time to join in so youre not alone!!
Can I ask how much the Cambridge diet is per week and how do you go about getting in ?
Thanks.
if you decide to stick at it and its totally your choice - just think the completely not eating part is only for a few weeks - in fact you could ask your councellor now if you could go up to Sole Source B where you can eat a small protein/veg meal. This is what I have as I do the running but only 15 minutes a night. I save it until the evening when I am feeling peckish and it fills me up.

It equates to a small portion of turkey and rocket in a cereal bowl with a bit of dressing.

You could do this and eat it with your dd. I honestly cant believe how great I feel. It's easier than I thought - the real test is tomorrow at dd's birthday party!!

I'm getting weighed etc on Sunday so I'll post then with my results - fingers crossed!!
My problem is that DH works away for weeks at a time and it is only me she has to eat with. She isn't really old enough to understand what overwheight is but is old enough to understand that I am not eating.

I am so happy for you that you are feeling the results already and feeling great about it. grin
and the faster I can get back to including myself in family photos with her instead of hiding away sad

but as for today I am grin because I know I can do this and I feel strong and healthier already!!
i have one dd and to be honest in the short term I dont think it will do her any harm to just eat tea with daddy while mummy is busy doing other things. There are plenty of times when we just eat together because dh is away.

She is at an age where she is aware that both her parents are overweight. I want her to see her real mummy as quickly as possible, the person I was and who I can be again. THe quicker I get through this first stage the faster I can add healthy food and portions back in anyway - this first stage will only last around 2 weeks.
Ledogy you are so right about the children seeing me eat. I am not comfortbale with them seeing me not eat a thing and I have always avoided the word diet around them too.

My closest slimming world is 10 miles away and an akward time to get to can you do it online?

Ineedacleaner you can well shift 2 stone in 5 months on Slimming world before I got pregnant I joined on 28th August and by the january had lost nearly 4 stone! Plus your children get to see you eat real and healthy food with less healthier food in moderation. I promise you you won't look back and you never feel deprived!
Well! Last night my friends came round and had pizza and wine and I had my shake sad grin I tried not to sulk but wasnt easy.

But this morning I got my reward - I couldnt believe my reflection which sounds so ridiculous but I cant get over it!!

My eyes are clearer and brighter than they have been for such a long time, they dont look tired and saggy (which I am lol) and dare I say they have the begininnings of a twinkle wink

I felt like the old me is creeping back !! Dramatic I know but suddenly and suprisingly I am starting to see the physical effects of not eating all that crap and that has given me such a boost. Plus my jeans slipped off my bottom this morning when I bent down blush so after two days - TWO DAYS! - I will have to bring my belt in a notch!!

I'm ecstatic!!

Had strawberry for breakfast, dreading lunch shock
Yeah I have thought about slimming world, my pilates instructor was talking about it last night as well.
Erm what did I have yesterday blush erm ahem a bit of ds birthday cake and some party food. Not a good day lol.
I am finding the flavours of this diet pretty grim and if I am not going to be eating not sure I want to be totally miserable and not enjoying it.
It was for the fast results for the motivation I was after but I am not sure I can do this if the drinks are so yuck. Aaarrgh I have 5 months to shift a bit of weight don't know.

Mumofdj will email you when I am dressed.
Slimming World is good but not quick or strict enough for me at the moment.

I need fast results for the motivation, then I can move onto the healthy eating (its part of the maintenance plan of the Cambridge Diet). Plus our local SW consultant is a bit crackers and scary!! grin
Two words. Slimming World. It's a healthy balanced diet only £4.50 a week, you can make meals for the whole family. It's an eating plan for life not just a quick fix plus it's filling and you don't feel like you're on a diet at all.

Sorry this is a hijack as im looking for ineedacleaner i am so sorry my internet is down i can only use my phone and i am useless on it. I am not sure if you have been trying to get me re the socks.? I didn disappear i promise ha ha x did you have any joy .? X i cant e mail you as dont have my address book but can you e mail me .? Krissyandchris @ tiscali.co.uk all small letters. Thanks honey
Dont beat yourself up seriously, you're addressing your weight in an unconventional way before an obvious way too I guess - eat less, lose weight.
What have you had today?

I've had toffee and walnut (quite nice)
leek and potato (fairly grim)
and hot chocolate and mint (really nice)

Still glugging away at the water trying to get my four pints in before bed
My reservations about it are more about the message I am sending to my children dd especially by doing this. I feel I am not setting the exampke that I personally want to be setting.
I am not convinced about the health benefits of me losing this way either.

I am really beating myself up right now about this

Grumpybum what a loss. Well done for sticking so well to it.
I can see me using all my week in a couple of days trying to find one I actually like. hmm
Thats brilliant!! Have you a lot to lose in total grumpy and did you feel like you had lost a lot before you were weighed?

I know I have only been on it two days and I know I havent cheated but I cant quite believe I am going to lose weight like this. I've been really hungry this afternoon which the counsellor tells me is because my body is starting to use up my fat stores hmm lets hope so grin
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Tue 29-Apr-08 21:33:15
Hi all.

So I had my weigh in today after week one. Considering I cheated on Sunday and had a roast dinner I was not very optimistic so I nearly keeled over when she said I had lost 9 and a quarter pounds!!! It has given an extra boost to make sure I carry on sticking to it. I swapped all the shakes and soups I didn't like and am now set for the week. I want to break my next stone barrier this week which means I need to lose 2 and a half pounds at least!
Have not suffered any side effects yet - not even a headache and I am convinced it is because I have been drinking 3litres of water a day and have a good swig whenever I haev felt hungry.

i am thinkin about starting i have some shales i bought last year but didnt get round to starting it.... I have it in my head to start tomorrow... i cant do it on the 1st of may becasue i have started a new diet on every 1st of the month iyswim? and never stuck to it.... so think tomorrow will be better... then if i can do it for 3 days i will contact the counseller to get more poacks etc...

how have you bee to day any headaches?
In contrast to you Ineed, I am quite pleased with myself for taking this route because it shows total conviction and control on my part. I have lots of weight to lose and I want to do it quickly. I want to be healthier quicker. I havent got any shame that I'm doing this diet and dont feel that you should feel bad about yourself for doing it either. Yes, its boring, bland and unpleasant but I have to think I have already had the fun part and have three stone of health-threatening fat to show for it.

Now its time to be kind to my body and get it back to the state it should be as soon as I can so I can enjoy life again and so I learn to stop letting life revolve around food. In all honesty I know I am one day in but I know I will stick with sole source until I lose a stone. It is my dd's birthday on Thursday - I wont eat a bite of party food and I honestly am not worried about that. The focus needs to come away from food and turn towards living again.

It will work if we let it work.
I had leek and potato for lunch - pretty grim but much better than the broccoli <bleurghh!!> I quite like the shakes and the choc mint is quite nice when you have it hot. might just stick to the sweet ones as the soups are just not good at all.

Cant wait to found out how much you've lost grumpybum - dont forget to update us!!!

Hi, I started this last Tuesday and have my first weigh in tomorrow evening. Have cheated cause I had a roast dinner on Sunday - How rubbish. So not sure how much I am going to have lost.
My concern was what I would have for breakfast cause the cold shakes are all horrid. My counsellor recommended a choc tetra brick in half a cup of hot black coffee. It is delicious and I would not have been able to get through the week without it. Vegetable soup is really nice too. Brocoli is gross though - went without rather than finished this one!!!
I am really interested to see how you all get on so keep posting. I will update on my !loss! tomorrow
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Mon 28-Apr-08 17:52:38
i have tried the shakes.(hate the soups)
fav's are chocolate. and strawberry...
and mint choc(hot)
best of luck
Cause I am useless at that, I have got into really crap eating habits and when I calory control I am doing great then when I eat I feel more hungry for all the wrong things.
I am doing this to try and break all my bad habits by just not doing food.

I actually resisted this diet for so long. I am not particularly pleased with myself for going down this road for various reasons.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Mon 28-Apr-08 15:05:22
Why not calorie control regular food?
I had leek and potato was ok but was actually a bit strong.
I ended up binning the cappucino this morning.
Out of the 2 I have had I have noticed that they all have the same undertaste and loaded with yucky fake flavours and it is the background liquid cardboard tastes I don't like.

I think I am going to give it this week see how I go and if I hate moer of the flavous that I like go back the drawing board.

This is going to be hard enough wothout being totally miserable with what I am allowed to put in my mouth.
How did the oriental chilli go down (if it did grin )
Should add I meet friends in Costa - did not want you to have the vision of me sitting sadly alone hunched over a giant carrot cake slice grin

Today they had cake. I just slathered grin
Just had cheese and broccoli soup - or rather didnt sad it was disgusting so I binned it. Feeling slightly sick now and hoping that all the soups arent like that one bleurgh!!!

I normally go to Costa for a latte and cake on mondays - I still went and was proud of myself when I just had a black tea.

Not looking forward to the long evening stretching ahead without nibbles - might be an early night I think grin
Yeah it is the less real food that enticed me in because I am fine to go without but as soo as I put food in when I am on a diet I want more.
4lb a week is great - I think I'm probably better the less real food I have otherwise I'll just want more!
How funny mine is really disorganised as well, her office is stacked up to the ceiling with stuff!! Might be same one shock grin

You'll do fine and so will I grin

I'm now thinking maybe I'll have another sweet one for lunch and save my soup for later.

My SIL lost 2 stone in 6 weeks and looks great and is maintaining really well and she is my inspiration as we are (WERE) about the same size. I cant wait to be a size 12 - if I lose like she did, that will be in around 4 - 5 weeks [thats worth getting excited about!!!]
4lbs off this week and I am eating normal food for my main meal as I don't do diet stuff very well.Have had the odd yoghurt too
Oh my conciller Never said anything about eating when I exercise she told me not to for 2 weeks.
She is nice enough I suppose bit disorganised but a lovely person.

I am going to need all the help I can get lol.
cant get over that those 20 sachets in that little box is my food for the next week shock

Because I go running most nights I'm allowed to have a tiny piece of chicken or fish with a little bit of salad but only on the nights I go. If I skive off running I dont eat grin

I've had a pint of water and just having a black tea with sweetener. Why tummy is beginning to rumble a tiny bit but I'm really optimistic (so far, easy to say on the first morning!!)

What your councellor like?

It is fab that we're starting on the same day, we can keep each other going lol.
Yeah I was thinking oriental chilli for lunch too. I don't like butterscotch full stop so never even chose any of those.

I am hoping I can stick at this, I have to lose weight or else my dress aint gonna fit grin

I know loads of people on the cambridge locally one woman had a partiularly large amount to lose and has lost 8 stone.
Think I'm going to have oriental chilli for lunch. Cant say I'm overly excited about it but oh well.... grin
I have three stone to lose. I'm the same re will power but I feel strangely positive that this is going to be a turning point.
I dont think I have a cappucino in my box. I can recommend the butterscotch though. I think it taste better than slim fast because its made with water and not as gloopy.

How long have you been on it noddy and how much have you lost...c'mon spill!!
I have 2 stone to lose Noddy.
Have rubbish will power so I am trying the all or nothing approach here totally no food. I figured even if I can get through a week or 2 then I will have at least kick started my weight loss (I am an optomist lol)
Oh yay someone else at the same point as me.
Yes I am doing sole source.
I had cappuccino it was not nice, hoping my soup at lunchtime is gonna be nicer.
I have been drinking smoothies twice a day plus one meal and it works and tates delicious.I am not needing to lose masses of weight though maybe half a stone so not sure if its any good for large amounts,Cheaper and ehalthier than slimfast
I started this morning too!! grin

I have to say that I found it suprisingly ok. I had butterscotch what did you have?

Are you doing sole source?
Started the cambridge diet this morning, trying to get a bit of weight off for my wedding.
I have only had one drink so far and if they all taste that bad I can see how the diet works you don't want to rush to the next meal cause you are still feeling sick from the first one.

I actually cannot believe I am doing this diet cause I just think it is madness on so many levels but hey ho the things we do, but I know I am going to really struggle if they are all horrid. If I am not eating I at least want to enjoy the little that is going into my stomach.
