Do you have a butter dish?!

(270 Posts)
I'm getting irrationally annoyed at having to spread rock hard butter on my bread.

I mentioned getting a butter dish and my mother laughed at me! I thought it was a good idea!

Seeing as I have been lurking and amusing (distressing??) family and friends with my interest in this topic, I thought I should really post.

I have a plastic, double skin butter dish in elecrtric blue that i got when my Great Uncle died. I did also claim a lovely pottery one but NOTHING could get rid of the smell of rancid butter (whole kitchen was stinkingsad).

Anyway, having read this thread I am asking my MIL for a Lakeland stainless steel one for Xmas to match my new kitchengrin. Far too excited about this than I should be!

BTW, putting butter in the fridge is a cardinal sin in our house and my parent's!!

I've got a butter dish! grin A lovely Mason Cash classic black and cream one, £3 in Oxfam! I have never been so smug!

I've given up on butter dishes - I had a lovely Nigella Lawson one with a wooden lid, and the dog ate it and the butter inside.
Resorted to a horrible freebie one, which sadly the dog didn't eat, but carefully took the lid off and ate the butter.
I think it's time for training classes.
I have a butter dish (denby white one), always have but have never seen one in anyone else's house!

We never buy marg or spreadable so it's necessary.

I also have a fair few cake stands and trifle dishes. All essential.

I have learned lots from this thread. I actually have 4 butter dishes. One green and white polka dot one, one white one with a sprig of lavender painted on that I bought in a market in the south of France, one bog standard stainless steel bottom and plastic top one and the Lakeland insulated one. Thought the Lakeland one was rubbish but I now realise I should let the butter come to room temp before putting it in the dish. blush

I love the Polish pottery link. I have quite a few bits of that in various patterns but not a butter dish.

Loved this thread!

Oh why did I click on this thread? I never knew til today that I need a butter dish. And I live near the Henry Watson factory shop. I could go this afternoon.

<fret>
My fingers are so green with envy I can barely type! Do you think Father Christmas would bring me one?
Huh. Have killed thread with talk of designer cake stands.
Huh.
Yes storage is the issue. I have a few on display (ie standing on the sideboard as there is nowhere else to put them). The jewel of my collection is a Vera Wang one...

I really ought to make some cakes...

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
