Special needs
: Did anyone else foolishly watch Child of our time and marvel at what NT kids can do!

Ds is the same age as the kids in the series but is now at special school so I don't see so much of NT kids his own age. I was torn between wonder at what NT children of only 7 -8 can do, and sadness at what ds can't. I had forgotten just how kind and thoughtful children can be. I only saw the second half, did anyone else watch it?
No I missed it, in fact I seem to have missed it every year. 8pm not a good time for telly in our house. Never seems to be repeated either. I don't think I could watch if kids were DD's age, but as they're similar to DS (7) I don't mind.
I haven't seen it for years again because it is too early for adults. When ds was in ms there was the constant reminder awareness of his difference. I was so impressed by their range of emotions and maturity - but sad for ds...
I've been watching it as the children are about the same age as ds1.
The odd thing about last night's programme was that little Taliesin reminded me so much of ds1. The speech patterns, the slightly old-fashioned phrases he came out with, the comments about football and even the jumping up and down was just like watching another version of ds1.
I wouldn't say T was definitely on the spectrum or anything like that but he's the only child in the series who seems anything like mine. Even dh commented on the resemblance and he usually has no interest in Child of Our Time.
no - haven't watched it but I see it every day when I look at dd2 and marvel at what she can do effortlessly and what takes dd1 ages to be able to do or that she still cannot do despite being 2 years older than dd2.
I watch it too - the children are the same age as DS1 and it always reassures me that some of them are as quirky as him! Recorded it yesterday and will watch Taliesin with interest - sounds very like my DS1 too CT!
If the children were the same age as DS2 though, I wouldn't be able to watch it. No way.
they are the same age as dd too. I watched a bit of it bt didnt feel anything, which is really odd! i think its sofar removed from us that i didnt care as much iykwim. I have ds1 who is younger and nt so i do have an idea how 'different' dd is. I am not sure i could chage her though
