I am just about to start statementing process, and want ot be prepared for the big fight as much as I can. Would anyone know of any private educational psychologists in the Essex/ East London area? Or is it not worth it? I think I will need someone to refute the LEA ed psych's report. My ds has low cognitive skills, and this was shown by Bailey's scales, and is asd. He has no comprehension of language, and has severe delayed expressive language. However have suspicion that LEA line is that he is not disruptive, so does not need full-tine support, etc. Has anyone used a good educ psych in Essex or East London? Or know of one with good reputation? TIA
I have used David Urani and he's been great. Very supportive and a really nice guy.
I am not convinced that bringing in a private ed psych at this early stage is going be very useful. The LEA will most likely ignore his advice, issue a crap statement, against which you will appeal to SENDIST, and THAT is when you need the independent ed psych. It is also good to find out first what the LEA are proposing -via the statement - so that you can then gather arguments against that.
However, one thing that has been very helpful in my case was the fact that I started the statementing process myself, and, I think as a result of that, got to see all but one of the reports before they were sent to the LEA. I haggled quite a bit with the various professionals and actually managed to get them to write stuff that is now proving very useful (we've got a SENDIST hearing in 4 weeks' time). Definitely try to get them to send you a draft for commenting, before they send it off.
Allan Willis was doing a lot of work in Ireland so don't know how much he is around...I left messages for him for about 6 weeks and he never returned a call or email ...that's because I think he was in ireland.
I used Michael Davies a neuro and Educational Psychologist. He is excellent, professional and caring. I won everything my ds needed recently with his help.
I am seeking an Educational Psychologist - could not get through to Alan Willis from even last year as busy in Ireland ... would it be possible to get contact details of Michael Davies? My ds is on asd but as he is quite withdrawn he is not viewed as disruptive so the school do not want to provide any support for him so trying to appeal...
