Update...

...I have just spoken to AN Other consultant on the phone, who told me that he doesn't hold with prescribing Clomid to people who appear to be ovulating normally, because it is 'dangerous' due to risk of multiple births. I asked if by 'dangerous' he just meant there is a 'danger' of multiple births, or that it is dangerous to my health. he said re. multiple births. My PCT does not 'do' follicle scanning, so he can't book me in.

He said that he thought I should not do 100mg Clomid, but instead go for IUI. I'm not sure what to do now, whether I should see through 3 months of the Clomid 100mg, starting once I have used up my current prescription (after my next cycle), or go for IUI. I would not want a multiple birth of more than twins!

Thanks, I think I should speak to my consultant. I have heard some suggestions that Clomid can resolve luteal phase defects, but she did not know I had LPDefect at that time , and I still have not told her.

I don't see how she can guarantee only two follicles.

Tbh, I've never understood the point of prescribing clomid to someone who's already ovulating, but it seems to be v common practise.

I would phone the hospital and double check and ask about scanning if poss.

I am also on clomid and at my hospital they do a 12 - 14 day follicle scan to see if the dose of clomid you are taking is right for you , also they can see how meny follicles there are as splodge said you dont want to risk triplets or more.

On the consultation prior to the one in which I was prescribed Clomid, my consultant had suggested that next time I might be prescribed fertility drugs.

I asked if they would produce multiple eggs (which I was reluctant about, as there is no indication that I am failing to ovulate, and I don't want to waste my supplies of good'uns!), and she said it would be a maximum of 2, indicating the two fallopian tubes.

It seems from my research that, as you say, it is possible to produce more. Does this mean my consultant was an idiot, or perhaps she had a different drug in mind...

Cho, some places do follicle scanning to ensure that the clomid is actually working, or not over-stimulating. I was initally on 50 mg and my blood tests were saying that the clomid wasn't working. My dose was doubled to 100mg against my better judgement and I then paid for a private follicle scan and found I had produced nine follicles. I was advised not to have unprotected sex as I could have had a multiple pg (triplets or more).

Unfortunately, alot of NHS clinics don't offer scanning.

I later found out my tubes were blocked anyway, but that's another story . . . .

I'm on my second phase of Clomid 50mg, I seem to be ovulating, and I have a 9 day luteal phase.

Should my follicles be scanned too???
