Me and DP are TTC and I've just been reading the TTC threads but have got all confused by the whole process (obviously I know the basics!). What is CD12, CP, DP, temp, GOF etc? It all sounds very technical!

I have PCOS so have no idea when my periods will be or when I ovulate. Is there any way of knowing?

have lots of sex.

basically.

cd means cycle day.

no idea about the others but i can speak with experience and say that once you get caught up in 'ttc' you will end up stressed.

make love as and when and see what happens.

Hi there!

CD = Cycle day. The day of your cycle you're on with CD1 being the first day of your period.

CP - I'm not sure what that is!

DP = Darling partner - your other half! smile

temp = your basal body temperature. You take it first thing in the morning before you do anything - get out of bed, go to the bathroom, drink or eat, even talk! You chart your temperatures over the course of your cycle and when you see a sustained rise, you know you ovulated the day bwefore.

Since you're not sure when you ovulate, I would suggest you use an ovulation predictor kit in conjunction with temping. The OPK will give you a surge 12-48 hours before you actually ovulate and the temperatures will confirm that you did.

Best of luck!

Hi there iwouldgoouttonight I too have PCOS, we have a lovely thread going here you're more than welcome to join us on our hunt for ovulation! smile

CD = Cycle Day
CP = Chemical P*regnancy
DP/DH = D*arling/*Dearest P*artner/*Husband
GOF = Good Old F*ck
AF = Auntie Flo - Period
TEW = The Evil Witch (Aunty flo)
LP = Luteal Phase
OPK = Ovulation Predictor Kits
CM = Cervical Mucous (I know, gross)

I cant think of anymore but there are loads, you get used to them grin

I'll get a slapped wrist for saying this but Temping is quite a good way to see if you are ovulating. The reason for the slapped wrist is because people like us with PCOS cant rely on temping or any of the other contraptions such as OPKs. Please dont use OPK's because PCOS can cause a raised LH throughout the cycle.

HTH (Hope This Helps!!!) and hope to 'see' you on the PCOS thread smile

Ooops, disregard my post and listen to FruitynNutty! I didn't realize that women with PCOS should not use OPKs!

Good luck!

IWGOT

If you have a PCOS diagnosis the one thing you can do sooner rather than later is get referred to a gynaecologist. Your GP should refer you to such a person as a matter of course. This is not a condition that should be mucked around with by GPs particularly with regards to ttc.

CP - cervical position (I think)

Temp charting and other such methods are not worth doing if you have been diagnosed with PCOS. Ovulation is less likely to happen regularly if at all with PCOS.

Using OPK's with PCOS is particularly not recommended as the kits reads LH - as many women with PCOS have an excess of this hormone to start with the kit could just give you false readings. Apart from anything else those kits work on two misleading principles; namely that women only have one LH surge every month and that such a surge is immediately followed by ovulation. Both of these assertions are not true.

One thing you can do is to try to remain within the correct weight range for your height - the symptoms of PCOS (and it is a highly individualistic disorder) can become worse with excess pounds (and these are very hard to shift). Some women follow a low GI eating plan.

www.verity-pcos.org.uk is worth looking at as well. Educate yourself re PCOS; it will help you when it comes to making treatment decisions.

Thanks for all your replies - very helpful!

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago so have come across the verity website before and have also tried a low GI diet - my weight is about right for my height so ok there, although I have other horrible things like hairiness and irregular periods. I was very lucky with DS and conceived really quickly - I'd been expecting to try for years but it happened in a couple of months (for which I'm eternally grateful especially as I'd been told by a particularly lovely doctor that because of my PCOS I'd probably never have children and might get cancer!! I changed doctors soon after that!). I think we just had lots of sex very often!! blush

My (nice new) doctor had told me that time to try for six months and then she'd refer me so I'm assuming that's what they'd say again, especially as I conceived before.

I had my mirena coil taken out over a month ago and still no period or any sign of it so feel a bit in the dark about where in my cycle I am and what to look out for! I know we've only been trying for a short time so not worried yet but it'd just be nice to know whats going on!!

Hmm, thought my period was starting yesterday - had a small amount of blood and was feeling very bloated and slight stomach pain. Now nothing today - no blood, no pain! Was that the world's smallest period??!!

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
