Have you ever heard of the Foresight programme, lissie? I'm not necessarily advocating it, but it might be worth taking a look at if you're considering enviromental/nutritional factors. Could lend you their book, if you like. I have followed some, but not all, of their advice. On the other hand, I can't help noticing I'm not pregnant wink

ooooh, I've been eating low fat (trying to loose that last 10lbs. Do you really think a bit of full-fat dairy would help? <<12 months TTC #2 and getting twitchy now>>

I am sure some people advocate no dairy at all for TTC

confused now hmm

Well I've just bought my full cream milk! And some evening primrose oil - that's supposed to be good, isn't it?

Have been googling... There seems to be a study of an awful lot of nurses that found that for conception, trans-fats very bad, full fat dairy (likely to be) good, but only 1-2 portions a day needed. And it was only about avoiding the kind of infertility to do with anovulatory cycles. So I'm going to be having my weetabix with whole milk, maybe having the odd yougurt, and avoiding the junk food even more than normal.

Sounds like what I was eating when I conceived. I have heard that cutting out dairy increases chance of a boy, but healthy eating is the most important thing.

Good luck!

Its giving up caffeine I find hardest!

Only time I ever managed it was when I was pg.

I suppose that decaff coffee is probably even worse for you somehow!
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By downbutnotout on Mon 28-Apr-08 13:28:55
There is a school of thought that says that decaf is not much cop either annie (wouldn't you just know it).

That's why I drink rooibos/redush tea which is naturally caffeine free - it does take some getting used to, but now I wouldn't have anything else.

Hello,

I'll join you Lissie. Have already had an avocado, marmite and nuts today but will go and have a yoghurt now

I have a DS, 18 months and plan to start ttc soon. I had a smililar sort of diet last time, I ate loads of seeds too as they seem to contain all the trace minerals that you need like zinc. I made sure DH got some as I think zinc or magnesium is good for sperm wink (I hope DH doesn't read this)

Very interesting- does anyone know whether there is scientific proof it works? Only asking because we have high colesterol in the family and I have therefore always avoided full-fat diairy foods. But we have been TTC for 7 months now and would be willing to try if there is a good chance it might help...

There's an interview with one of the study authors here. The main point is that they didn't study infertile women, they took a huge group of nurses and looked at the diets of those that conceived.

Thank you, that article is really interesting. So basically get iron and folic acid, avoid trans fats, and swap from low-fat yogurt to full-fat, while doing at least 30 mins exercise a date. I am off to try...
