well, as you've already given birth before there is apparently a reasonable chance of it being quick - I was induced with dd1 and the lady in the bed next to me, who was being induced at the same time, gave birth right there on the antenatal ward about 6 hours later.
KInd of - got the gel at 10 past midnight, DS born 13:04 in the afternoon (note I WASN'T in active labour all that time. Mildly, then painfully 7am-9am, then epidural, fell asleep, woken up to push DS out)
I'm also thinking (hoping) that as my waters have partially gone and I've had some contractions my cervix must be open a bit so hopefully the gel should work.
i think when i was induced they had a partcularly potent batch of prostin gel- people were popping babies out on the ante-natal ward, in corridors and even down the loo!
my official labour with the 4th was 1 min, the examined me and went oh 8cm, oh crowned, oh she's out! It was still 11 hours after the first lot of gel but only 4/5 hours after the 2nd lot, it was easy, wonderful and would do it again tomorrow.
Would have done if they put the prostin in at a reasonable hour - prostin to baby = 6 hours, but they didn't put it in til 1900 hours so technically baby not born til following day.
I had a six hour labour too, got the gel about half five,no pain or anything went for long walk around the hospital, waters broke and contractions started at half seven, bod born at 1.20 and probably would have been quicker only he got a bit stuck, was worried before too 'cause you hear that being induced is more painful than a normal birth, but it was fine, am actually hoping I will be induced for my next one. good luck
i was dialated 2 weeks before my babies due date, on her due date my waters broke..two days later i was finally hooked up and pumped full of syntocin around mid-day at 5.49 i gave birth to my little girl...so much intense pain as the contractions were'forced' mine wern't strong enough but a good time i think!
1st baby - induced Sunday night at 7pm (with gel), waters broke at midnight, DD born at 5.03am on Monday. Was all quite fast and intense!!
2nd baby - in hospital Friday, induced Sat, left cos ward was busy, induced again Sun morning, left again cos ward was busy, after some questions from myself and hubby (cos we were highly fed up ) induced again Sunday evening about 11pm, waters broke at midnight and DS was born at 11.13am on the monday (his due date!!).
I think its weirdy lovely that my waters went both times at midnight AND both my babies were born on a Monday
me !!! Went in ot be induced Sunday night , was in early stages already so they left it until lunchtime next day with a little progress, then waters were broken, took some tablets and dd born at 5.40pm ish ! In time for dinner
Me - pessary about 4pm, having long walks up the Fulham Road (with intermittent monitoring) until about 7pm, dinner in Carluccio's, all hell broke loose around 9.30 pm and daughter born after 10 mins of pushing at 11.18pm. So only just!
no sorry. gel 11pm thur night, walking around hospital and car park till 12midnight ( no bloody way I would let them do that that late again) waters break 3am fri morn, drip 6.30am fri (don't know why had started to have strong contractions though not in a fit state to ask) Ds born 4.05am sat morning.
Induced at 4pm with pessary DH kicked out of ante-natal ward at 9pm First contraction at 9.45pm Waters broke at 10.45pm Examined at 11.40am and told 8cm dilated Rushed down to delivery suite Husband phoned and arrived at 12.30am Baby born at 2.09am - in theatre as they were going to do a CS but I pushed out DS myself!
Only had gas and air - didn't need anything else - aside from first couple of contractions didn't find it too painful.
Happened 12 weeks ago so still very clear! Good luck.
So it wasnt just me who's husband got sent home - when I was induced with 1st baby at 7pm, hubby sent home at 9pm (when visiting ended!). My water went at midnight and I kept asking midwife to ring hubby and let him know. She said "we'll ring him when delivery room becomes available" - at this point I was on G&A and thought "no way" - tried about 5 times to ring him myself from patientline, PMSL, numbers were all jumping around cue me rolling round laughing at my phone - much to disgust of 3 other ladies on my ward who were trying to sleep .
I did eventually manage to ring husband, he came to hospital within half an hour (maybe I was dramatic on phone, PMSL!!!). I heard something beeping (? a machine somewhere) and very loudly TOLD someone to "answer the door" - OH THE JOY of gas & air!!!!!
Good luck with your induction, I understand you are nervous, but just think, soon you will get to meet your baba x
i am actually inspired now after reading these im due to be induced at 36/37 weeks for medical reasons and im terrified,i had a 30 hour labour last time was the worst one out of the lot usually im like 6 hours from start to finish give or take an hour, i guess i had a bad experience and there is hope
1st and only baby that was induced took 9 hours to appear, took one pessary and a drip to get him out. Born on a Wednesday sunny morning. Is now a grumpy teenager!
Other 3 kiddies all natural births, the 2nd was born in hospital, the 3rd and 4th were born at home.
Started drip at 6:00 pm, started contractions at about 7:30 and he was born 10:20 pm. Very quick and easy and that was my first !! I actually quite enoyed it. Good luck
erm, sorry you won't like my contribution, took me 5 days and then had an emergency c section, am now pregnant again and a bit scared. I don't think my body is a natural at giving birth good luck, all the other induction stories sounds great!!!
Hopefully shoppingbagsundereyes is having/has had her baby by now, but fwiw I was holding DS (1st baby) thirteen hours after my second pessary (at 42 weeks).
Only needed G&A, and only found it really hard from transition onwards.
I feel I had a positive birth experience, even though I had really wanted a home birth.
induced with my first at 12 days - nothing happened for 3 days so had c-section at 15 days and during the op they discovered she was breech.... doh!! If I hadn't been so knackered I'd have kicked up a stink.
DD2 came naturally 11 days late and now expecting twins in Sep so back to c-section!!
Not me. I was taken into hospital on Thursday afternoon . DS made his appearance 9.30pm Saturday night.
Gel Thursday night, Friday, Saturday. Finally dilated to 2cm Saturday, waters broken. Put on drip at 4pm, fully dilated at 8pm. Taken into theatre for emergency forceps.
It was a long time of nothing happening, then a mad dash.
My hindwaters had gone, was already 3cm dilated so broke my waters started on drip. My ds was born after 4.5 hrs and he was my first. Just realised you'll probably already have your little one, hope to hear from you soon.
I went in on the Monday and was given prostin gel five times over the following week as none of them seem to have any effect at all, then delivered the following Wednesday 3 weeks late having had the maximum amount of syntocinin, episiotomy and forceps, and have the most fantastic bouncing baby to show for it. I think my situation is rare but go with an open mind, I was convinced I was going to deliver that day or next and was continually gutted for the next week as each attempt failed. They usually review you after three attempts, i was just unlucky as my baby was so happy where he was they decided to continue even though I was begging for a c section after 3 attempts. You will get there one way or another soon enough, try to focus on the fact that you will be holding your beautiful baby very soon and just try to bide your time in the meantime. Fingers crossed for you
Ds induced (syntocin IV) at 1pm delivered around 9pm (8 hrs total) when I was at 42 weeks. My waters had already broken though (day before). Was told that policy was not to use a pessary when your waters have broken so I went straight to the drip.
The 8 hrs were pretty full on though as the contractions were quite strong and very often from the start.
Lazycow, do you know why your hospital had the policy not to use pessary after waters broken? With DD my waters broke at 6 am one day, and as there was meconium in the fluid I was monitored all morning, then induced by pessary around 1 pm, syntocinon added 7 am next morning after slow progress and then finally em c-section at 11 am after baby became clearly distressed. But it doesn't seem that long looking back. Good luck Shoppingbagsundereyes, hope all goes well!
Couldn't have the gel as I wasn't 'ripe' lol! What a term!
Instead I was taken away in the morning, was only 1cm and had my waters broken - OWWWW! From start to finish it took thirteen and a half hours. I didn't (or wasn't allowed to!) get out of bed once in that time, when I finally got up after having dd I near on collapsed as I couldn't walk pmsl!
It was good once I had the epidural, just slept from then until I needed to push.
I was induced at 42 weeks. Officially, my labour was something like 2 hrs 40mins. In reality, the pessary went in at 6pm Friday, by 9pm I was having serious contractions (like 5 mins apart, enough to make me swear) by 12am I was begging for pethidine and at 7am Saturday morning my son was born via Ventouse. So I guess it could have been longer if he hadn't been in distress. They only let me push for 40mins before taking me into theatre.
no with my induction with ds1 who was a 26 hr labour- ouch!- but with dd, it took a long while to start but then it was a 5 hr labour and born within the day as in within 24 hrs)
I was induced with my second at 41+4wks and he was in my arms 4.5hrs later. I was induced at 41wks with No3 and she took about 12hrs to put in an appearance, I think.
ooh gosh I finally make it to the mumsnet front page and I'm off giving birth!!! See birth announcements for the details. I did get to see my baby the same day though
Morning all. Had an early scan yesterday, as I couldn't wait for week 12. It was amazing to hear the little peanut's heartbeat, bought a tear to my eye. Well worth every penny!
