I have always had the depot injection but am not sure if it will affect breast feeding due to hormonal changes.
Anyone had experience?

Depo is fine with breastfeeding

Depo is evil! Stopped me conceiving for 14 months after coming off it and mucked up my body completely. If you ever want another child stop having the injections NOW.

I also had a significant delay in my fertility when stopping depo- 18 months.

A GYN consultant at the Edinburgh FPC ruled it out for me because of my PND/history of PND.

Thats ok about it taking ages to concieve because I don't want any more children. I have 2 already (took 6wks to concieve dd1 and 4wks with dd2 btw). I just wanted to know if it affected breast feeding.
I took it before and inbetween dcs and it worked well for me, no problems. smile Thanks for all your replies though.

seona1973 thanks for that really helpful link smile It says that progesterone in normal pill/depot doses are safe but could affect supply. I will take the risk I think. I can always express to increase it if it dips (as well as feeding while baby is asleep iyswim).

Dr Jack Newman recommends that Depo-Provera is only used after the progesterone only pill has been taken for 28 days. this is to ensure that the mother will not experience a big drop in supply if she took Depo. Thiough i suppose that not experiencing a drop wiht the minipill does not rule out if it will happen with depo. But then again, i am not Jack Newman. If she finds that there is a drop in supply with the minipill, it can be stopped at any time. Depo does not give you that option.

I started Depo while bfing my 3 month old and suffered no drop in supply at all. I stopped when he was 18 months and am still going strong (he is 2 and 5 months now.)
Didn't help my sex drive though -- and that's still knackered sad

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
