i turned off the monitor when i went to bed (kept it on downstairs in case i didn't hear over the tv). and i didn't hear a thing until ds1 woke at 5.30 ! ds2 woke about 6.30. so either he coincidentally didn't wake up at all the first night i turned off the monitor? or i just slept through any wake ups and he resettled himself... either way, hooray!!!!
thanks! think i have got paranoid about him waking ds1, esp when i am on my own with both of them. dh is on ds1 duty if he should get disturbed. if i DO hear ds2 then i figure he'll be properly awake and hungry, fingers crossed!
new tactic for tonight...turning monitor off once i go to bed!
if i can't hear him, i won't wake up, get up, try to feed him, only for him to fall asleep after a tiny feed that he didn't really need anyway, etc....
Oh am so glad I found this thread again!! I have been on 2-3 hourly night wakings since Friday. Ds2 is dribbling like mad, not sleeping during the day and was inconsolable at 1am this morning.
This too shall pass (repeat until you believe it!!!)
sorry to cut it short, ds1 was getting cross that he couldn't post tv time.bath time, calpol time , bed time....fingers crossed...yet again! and for you too, it's not fun is it?!
lily - not sure whether to reply here or PN thread? anyway dh would (& does) do early mornings with both boys...when he is here that is. he is away with work most mon am-thurs pm means i do 4 bedtimes on my own and 3 full nights.
well, as you can see from time of posting, not a great night... 10 (earliest first feed ever)/1/4ish/4.45 have given up, he won't go back to sleep and i can't face ds1 at this time of day too, so downstairs with ds2 lying on sofa gurgling away.
better than the night before at least. i have tried bringing him into our bed, but like ds1 he won't sleep there anymore he just gets excited and stares at the lights waiting for us to turn them on
will just have to grit teeth and get through it...
jks hope things were better. We had 12 / 2 (re settled with dummy) then 5 then up at 7 so much better. I gave her some boiled water yesterday as wondered if it was thirst. JKS you can do it, we'll do it together dd not 4 months until the 18th officially. I bring her in bed with us at 5 and she does go back to sleep have you treid that ?
chairmum - i agree, the night feeds last night were very quick ones, just a quick drink i guess then back to sleep. have changed pjs from vest+sleepsuit+sleeping bag, to long-sleeved vest+bag, think i will try normal vest +bag tonight, see if it makes a difference. i know i can't function if this carries on, 4 feeds plus up at 5ish plus looking after toddler, no thanks!
DS is 16 weeks today and is doing very similar things. The health visitor suggested it could be because he's thirsty in this weather, which makes sense to me - its pretty hot even at night. Thankfully he's back to 3 hours rather than 2 (he was doing 4 at one point, for a whole week!!) which is easier, and we're co-sleeping most of the night which really helps.
Certainly in the day time the heat has been making DS much grumpier.
last night 10.30/2/4/5 now given up and come downstairs in the (vain) hope that ds2 and i haven't woken ds1. can hear his door banging tho so failed there.
god i am sooo tired. looked back through diary, ds1 didn't do this, one extra wake up at 5.5wks and that was it! i didn't write down during the day stuff tho so may have been a limpet all day? could do that with 1, so maybe ds2 knows night times are his chance!
all i can think about is sleep, formula & puree....help me hold out, really want to try BLW but can't do another 2&a bit months of this sleep deprivation! (he's not even 4 mo until the 21st!)
oh lily, bad news hopefully she has 'filled her boots' for a few hours? i'm lucky in that ds2 will sleep well from bedtime till at least midnight, then it's anything goes from there on...
he's dribbling loads too...ds1 was an early teether, it's a good thing, honest
read this on MN recently; 4-ish month olds are more aware of the world so don't concentrate on feeding properly during the day so aren't full when they go to bed, but they follow routine, go to bed, then wake up hungry. no distractions at night so feed properly then. ff babies are often turned around to have their bottle so they can watch world and feed at the same time so that's why most of them don't start waking at this point. possible?
My 17 week old, although thank god is sleeping well at night, has turned from the perfect baby, to a right grumpy little man! I dont seem to be able to keep him amused for very long, i cant leave the room without him. Where he used to nap really well in the day he's hardly sleeping.
And well getting him to sleep tonight i got 20 mins of full blown screaming.
I thinking teething, as he has rosey cheeks (but is really hot where i am), constantly chews his hands and has been dribbling for england!!!!!!!
My dd is coming up for 16 weeks and is ebf. We have had two horrendous nights with her going literally two hours if lucky. Today she has been grizzly and unsettled all day snacking on and off! Not wanting to be put down. Dp even mentioned formula last night, which i really don't want to do.
