I found this book very comforting. I had a fairly standard newborn, and was getting very little sleep. After reading it, I started swaddling, and shooshing, and swaying and found they worked a treat. His advice is practical and I found the advice on breast feeding very helpful. The fourth trimester theory makes sense, and confirmed my instincts to calm my baby rather than let him cry himself out. I give this book as a gift to all my friends and it was been well received.

A great and useful book. The concept of the fourth trimester is really useful - basically try to replicate the womb as much as possible for the first three months or so to calm your baby! We used the white noise a lot for our first and it worked a treat. The writing style is kind of annoying (lots of exclamation marks), but I could see past that.

We read this book before our baby was born. When he arrived we immediately used Harvey's techniques. They all worked like a charm and we have a happy, sleeping and calm baby. Harvey Karp helped us feel confident even though our son is our first baby.

I think this book should be given to all pregnant women. It made such a difference to us.

Really nicely written and gives very helpful theories on the goings on of a tiny babies brain. My daughter didn't really respond to a lot of the techniques but she was a difficult little newborn anyway... it was a very Mum friendly book with no harsh routines to follow.
