One of my 20 month old granddaughter's favourite DVDs at the moment is Peppa's Christmas which is a short DVD compared to her mammoth 3 hour In The Night Garden viewing habits, this one being just 65 minutes from start to finish which is much kinder to the adult viewers who are forced to watch along!
Although it is marketed as a Christmas DVD, there is in fact just one slightly longer than average episode which revolves around Christmas and this is a lovely little tale of Peppa helping Father Christmas when he loses all her friends' Christmas present lists. Peppa helps to jog his memory about what each of her friends would like and everything works out beautifully in the end. I love this episode as it shows Santa all lovely and cuddly which is how he should be in a DVD for such young children, it also shows Peppa and her baby brother George helping Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig to decorate the Christmas tree which is a lovely family scene.
This Christmas episode is longer than average at 10 minutes long, while the other episodes on this DVD are short 5 minute stories which are the perfect length for a boisterous 20 month old to sit through.
The other 11 episodes are typical Peppa Pig stories featuring Peppa, George and their friends. All have a feel good sense about them, which is true of all the episodes my granddaughter watches on Nick Jnr. I've seen the majority of these episodes on TV when my granddaughter has visited so you're not getting anything extra on this DVD, apart from the special Christmas episode which is a nice bonus. The attraction of this DVD for me is that I have all these lovely episodes in one place for my granddaughter without her having to wait until certain times when it's shown on one of the channels, I keep her DVD's on a low shelf so she can reach up and show me which one she wants to watch and just lately it's Peppa's Christmas every time.
The episodes all show the perfect life Peppa and her family lead, there are always things to learn and everyone is kind and thoughtful to one another. The family have simple pleasures such as baking fairy cakes and, more importantly, jumping in muddy puddles which is the kind of idyllic lifestyle we want to show our children at that tender age.
My granddaughter's favourite episode on this DVD is the Cuckoo Clock one which shows Daddy Pig winding up the clock. Every time the funny little bird comes out she giggles and points to my own cuckoo clock on the wall above the tele. I find this episode quite amusing too, but then I'm unhealthily addicted to Peppa myself and I'm certainly not within the age range this DVD is made for! Granny and Grandpa's Attic is also a nice one where Peppa and George help the older Pigs to sort out their attic, the problem is everything is such fun to play with that they end up not getting rid of anything at all!
This is a lovely DVD for any toddler or young child, Peppa is such a cheeky character that this even appeals to my nine year old granddaughter and although she takes the mickey out of it I often see her sitting enthralled by the basic little stories told within each episode. I paid less than £5 for it before Christmas and it's proved to be money well spent, if you shop around you'll probably find it even cheaper now Christmas is well and truly over but I'd watch Peppa talking to Father Christmas any time of year!

We love Peppa pig, or peeeeeeeeeeeeg as DD calls it. This charming DVD has lovely episodes of all things piggly. It showcases Daddy Pig's so called 'expertness' and Mummy Pig's quiet sensibleness... and of course, the ultimate piggly cuteness of Peppa and George. Guaranteed to make you chuckle and probably oink with laughter - fun for all, even my parents love it! A totally absorbing, absolutely inoffensive and delightful DVD for all the family. Best enjoyed with chocolate cake and dine- saaaaws !
