BeSafe iZi COMBI ISOFIX
This Combi seat lets your child sit rearfacing to 4 years, plus can be used forward facing, when the time is right.

5 times safer - the British Medical Journal and American Academy of Paediatricians support keeping children rearfacing longer.

After doing a lot of research and finding that rear facing car seats were much safer for your younger children (mine was 6mnth and v tall so outgrew his car seat quicklly!) I found the BeSafe Izi Combi was hard to beat. It is very sturdy, padded and versatile; rear and front facing. It does recline, however, dependant on your car and how it fits in, it may not recliine that much (like mine, Ren.Scenic). My baby loves it, the height means he can see out and he loves watching everything that goes on. Yes, you would need a rear mirror to keep an eye on them (if sat rear facing) but well worth it. The head rest insert moves up and down easily which automatically moves the straps for your height. Easily washable/wipe down, very comfy and great piece of mind for their safety. Not cheap, but if you can afford it, would definitely recommend - a great investment! We also purchased the sun visor which clips on with poppers around the top edge of the seat - it does restrict your vision within the car (blind spots) so be warned! There are plenty of installation guides on the 'www', both rear and front facing. Once you see someone else installing it, it's simple to do! Not light and quite bulky so wouldn't advise moving from car to car. Overall, we LOVE it.

Purchased this for DS when he was 8 months as he nearing the height of his baby carrier. I wanted him to go rearfacing after reading the mumsnet car seat forum, and then reading the rearfacing.co.uk and carseat.se websites (great info on all these resources).

The seat I purchased is the X3 version. It can go forward facing using the seatbelts only if desired. The seat is nice and padded, and the head rest is solid and extends round the sides giving side protection. The harness height is also adjusted very easily by moving the head rest up or down, the harness moves with this. There are a few recline positions which are fine, in the lowest setting the seat is parallell to the car seat, in the recline you are actually lifting the seat up a bit to angle it. My DS is happy in his, and can see out the windows fine. I have to invest in a rear window sun visor though, as the sun can sometimes hit him in the face!

Although I was slightly concerned about the room this seat would require, I currently have an 07 mondeo and the front passenger seat can make it way back with this childseat installed behind it. There is plenty of room.

I don't think it's easy to transfer quickly between cars, it is a heavy and sturdy seat.

We've just bought this (ISOFIX version) for our daughter and it's a fantastic seat. So safe and sturdy, really comfy and I love the fact that she's rear-facing. We've got the new X3 version which has magnets to hold the straps out of the way when the seat is empty - brilliant idea as no faffing about trying to get the straps out of the way before putting her in the seat. Highly recommended, it is pricey but car seats are the one thing I'm happy to spend money on. Oh and it's not small, fortunately we have an estate car though!

Our little girl loves this seat as it is really comfortable and since it sits quite high up she is able to get a good view out of the window when we are travelling. It does take up space but it is really sturdy and I like the fact that our daughter can stay rearward facing for up to four years. I would recommend this car seat. BTW We have the ISOFIX version.

Just brilliant - comfy, spacious and above all the safest we could find. DD1 frankly loves it. Pricey compared to others but at around £220 not prohibitive - we chose to forgo some luxuries for a few months in order to get this. We'll be buying another for DD2 in a few months. A real shame more isn't known about rear-facing seats in the UK - the prices would probably come down if they were more widely distributed, and I'm sure a fair number of people would chose these seats if they knew about them.
