I think this game is fairly good for beginners and it has some nice points like the skins for the chess board and relaxing music. You can't use the wii pointer although it does show you where you can move your piece so is good for beginners. It is really just chess without much extra. Personally I would buy a board and play it properly!

I bought this for my husband but it's DS (5) who has really taken to it. The graphics are pretty basic but functional - you can change the design of the board, have background music on or off etc. To move pieces you have to select them, then use the up / down / L / R arrows to move them which can seem a little long winded. I had expected the Wii to be able to use the remote to point to where you want to go. You can either play the computer or play each other. When you pick up a piece it shows you which squares you can move to, which is helpful for beginners like me!

There are varying levels to play at but we haven't pitted the computer against anyone really good yet so I don't know how it would be for an expert player but for me & DS it's good fun!

Excellent way for children to learn the basics of chess with characters dressed up as cowboys and indians or pirates. Very easy to understand tuition. My son really enjoys this game.
