Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

First to explain what it is - a mixture of yoga, muscle workouts, aerobics and balance games. You can weigh yourself and graph your weight/BMI and do agility tests to see if you are fitter than your actual age.

Your personal trainer shows you how to do the exercises and makes encouraging comments (limited selection, sometimes inappropriate). There is a star rating to show how well you did and a leader board to encourage competition. However if your children have filled that you can still see try to beat your personal best.

Exercises can be done at more than one level so it copes with different ability levels. The balance games will keep you amused for hours and make you more aware of your posture.

Well worth the money for getting the potatoes off the couch. The amount of time taken up by comments from the trainer can become boring. It's not really for serious fitness fanatics but still useful for motivation.

The reasons we bought a Wii! As one who's a tad cynical about latest 'must-haves', even I have to admit it's really clever technology. Wii Fit includes: boxing, step, jogging, hula, skiing, aerobics, yoga, muscle toning and competitive games and more. My 4yr old, competitive dh and me (master of exercise avidance) all enjoy Wii Fit.
