CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Charming game based on a US TV cartoon show. You set up your own garden with flowers, houses etc and breed pinata and grow different plants and food to attract different pinate. Offers a surprising amount even to adults.

I actually bought this game when I was on maternity leave, before my little one was born, to while away the hours at home! Games which involve being chased or shot at scare me, which wasn't a problem with Viva Pinata. You own a garden, and have to cultivate it and grow plants etc to entice pinatas (cute colourful animals) to come and live in it. There is more to it than that, obviously, including breeding pinatas, hunting them, dressing them up in fancy dress and sending them to parties! There is a play for fun mode which is easier, and would be great for children to play. You don't have to take the game at all seriously, and can just mess about in your garden with the pinatas if you prefer. All in all lots of light-hearted fun!

Viva Pinata is a great game, it doesn't get boring and it's so colourfull and fun, plus there is a co-op feature so parents can help thier children. It's engaging and sometimes challenging but there is no blood or gore or swearing or sexual content so its very family friendly.
