Quote of the week

David Cameron on whether The Thick of It accurately represents the Conservative publicity machine: "I love The Thick of It. V funny... but only true about the other lot (not)."

Recipe of the week

penguinmum's creamy fish pie: smoky, seasonal fish in a creamy white sauce with grated, rather than mashed, tatties on top - a meal of the highest comfort-food order.

Dh, I and dses aged 2 and 5 went on one of Ingham's late availability "Taste of" breaks, this one was Taste of Salzburgerland, we could choose our place of departure flight (B'ham) but not our hotel so it was a bit of a risk but really paid off.

We were disappointed that our resort was the furthest away of all from the aiport but the 2 hours passed very quickly - kids slept through most of it - so in the end it wasn't a problem. On the return transfer we were in a luxury doubledecker coach which was lovely!

Hotel Sonnblick is a lovely well-presented 3 star hotel, we had huge hot/cold buffet breakfasts, break was half-board but they gave us packed lunches every day (!!!), 4 course dinners every night, mainly buffet so always something the kids could find to eat. Toy box for kids in lounge bar, trampoline outside, sun terrace with outside play area at rear, sauna complex in hotel. Somehow we ended up with 2 rooms for price of 1 (some internet deal I wasn't even aware of) so plenty of room to spread out.

Beautiful location, cable cars, buses to Saalbach (more cable cars, fab outdoor swim complex), Zell am See and to the end of the valley (8 mins) where you could get the "Noddy" train up the mountain to wood and water parks. Loads to do plus Inghams excursions available also (we did Berchesgarten and another day the historic Gisella train from Zell am See to Kitzbuhel).

This is our second visit to Austria with children (see my review of Gasthof Mauth in St Johann) and again we weren't disappointed - playgrounds everywhere you turn, Austrians very good with the kids, ice-cream parlours and pizza a-plenty. Austria is fab for children of all ages - plenty for older ones to do too.
