Absolutely fantastic holiday, very little we would change. The Achensee is as beautiful as it´s reputation and the hotel was truly relaxing. Our son (turned 4 while we were there) loved the kid´s club, especially rehearsing for the ´Crazy Dance Show´at the end of the week and the Red Indian campsite they made in the woods. Only thing he was not so keen on were the swimming lessons (an extra at approx 15 euros per 45 mins). He loves swimming and is very confident but found it dull.

He enjoyed having dinner with the kid´s club-my only quible was when he told me with glee he had ´cola´ to drink-I didn´t tell them not to give it to me but it did not occur to me they would let a 4 year old have anything other than water or apple juice!

I enjoyed a relaxing facial and other than that we walked around the lake, went on the steamer and took the cable cars up mountains (apparently best part of the holiday was snowballing daddy!). We found the Achensee Card (available from tourist office for 51 euros for adults) good value, allowing unlimited use of cable cars/ferries/small train etc. My husband enjoyed biking and running in the mountains.

Food was good and as we don't drink alcohol we had few extras to pay. (I imagine it would add up a bit if you were to add wine/beer etc every night.) Staff were good about providing milk etc at night for a last drink for your child. If you have a baby the free formula, baby food, biscuits etc is also a nice touch.

I felt hot drinks could have been included all day, not just breakfast and afternoon coffee. Also ice-cream cones for kids were only free between 4-5:30! Lunch was probably the least inspired meal of the day (served in the See Alm across the road) but it was fine (and we were never that hungry after a huge breakfast!)

Accomodation was good, spotlessly clean and nice big bathroom. Seperate bunk bed room was nice (We had a 'Daisy´ room, it does open onto small balcony which could be a worry if your child is particularly adventurous!)

Would be very happy to stay there again.

For us this was the perfect family holiday. Kinderhotels are mainly to be found in the Austrian and German Alps so if you like the outdoors but don't fancy sandy beaches this is the ideal place. For kids EVERYTHING is provided, from nappies, to special food, to highchairs, cots, toddler beds, more toys than you can imagine and the most amazing play facilities. I could go on for ever but this really is a children's paradise. The kids' club was fantastic with the only downfall being that the main language was German, but everyone spoke English and about a quarter of the kids were English. For adults the hotel is a spa hotel, so there are all the treatments you could want. Then there was daily guided walking and biking tours as well as horse riding and sailing for those who wanted it. Otherwise there was just relaxing by the lake or having a drink at the bar. Everything is included except treatments and alcohol, so it worked out at amazing value for money. I really couldnt recommend this hotel enough - check out Tripadvisor for all the rave reviews.
