Tip of the day

Holidays. Always pack a jar of vaseline. When the sand / sea combination makes swimming trunks chafe it works wonders. inthesticks

Quote of the week

LadyBiscuit on the power struggle of play: "If I ever attempt to join in I am driving the train the wrong way round the track, using the wrong truck on the back of it or committing some other heinous crime. What they should say is, 'Mummy, I want to boss you around for a bit. Please come and sit on the floor where I am in charge of the world'."

Recipe of the week

smithy's roasted beetroot: low-fat, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free and generally nutritious and virtuous. This one-dish wonder is delicious and uses up some seasonal beets. What's not to like?

OMG this product is brilliant. My darling grandson had a traumatic birth and has developmental delay, so is slow with his sitting etc. Our physio has encouraged us to sit him as much as possible to strengthen his back and to get him to use his hands in a better position. We know the position he should be but he continually arches, lolls to one side and loses head control. Even the special physio equipment is not always successful. I was a bit dubious but when we sat him in it the first time today it was a perfect fit, he sat for half an hour and played beautifully with his toys. We could see how comfortable he was, no struggling, no arching - could not believe the perfect fit. He is 14 lb and 9 months and I can see it being used for several months - wish I'd bought one sooner. Absolutely practical and well made. I'm sure babies with normal development would be safe and secure in this until they achieve the sense of balance needed to sit alone and the upright position much better than bouncy cradle for active play.

I have been using this product for a couple of weeks and I don't know how I managed without it before. It is called the Baby Station (www.babystation.com). It is basically a play seat that keeps your baby supported - so that you don't have to prop them up with cushions and hope that they don't fall.

My baby is 5 months old and she loves to sit up and watch her big brother but he is forever moving the cushions that I am propping her up with! It really is fab. One of those things that you didn't know that you needed but can't do without.

I am looking to buy a highchair - does anyone out there have any recommendations?
