CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

This nappy was used on my little boy every night and it was fantastic. Never leaked, economical as it fitted him from 9 months to 2 when he was potty trained. saved a fortune not using disposables. definitely invest in one of these even if only for nighttime.

I love these nappies. They are really funky colours and styles. I've got a great Harry Potter one and another. You can stuff the pockets with anything, to make them more absorbant or more streamlined. The pockets dry quickly, the inserts depend on what you use. They are more reliable and leak free if the insert is nice and flat as they can wrinkle and wick moisture if overstuffed. They seem to last quite well and are beautifully made.

I have been using a slinki minki for two days now and I am so impressed with it. It is ideal for people with very wriggly babies. I stuff mine with bamboo terry which is less bulky than a cotton terry, though still gives a big bum. For daytime I put my baby in babylegs or bigger sized trousers rolled up. vest extenders are useful things for fitting a vest over minkis. I think the big bum look is so cute in these nappies that I just don't mind that it is so big -good padding for all those bumps any way. The minki dries in next to no time and so far, no leaks. The biggest plus for me is that the aplix can't scratch bzby's tummy or thighs on minkis like some wraps tend to do. I'll be investing in a few more pairs, i just wish i had used them from the start!

Great nappies - soft, snuggly and you can add as much boosting as you could ever need.

They are made of 2 layers of thick fleece though, so by the time they are boosted they ARE bulky (even the slinkis) - ideal night nappies. My 4 year old is now in XL minki yoyos for bed.

Although they seem expensive they are, without a doubt, one of the most reliable cloth nappies that I've tried (and I've tried a few!). Provided you get the stuffing right they will last a 12 hour stretch at night on a toddler. The large size seem to be extremely generous and have lasted from about 8 months and still seem to have plenty of room at 19 months.
