Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

This book aims to show expectant and new mums how to become greener and more ethical when a baby is on the way. I found it useful and well written, giving practical advice in a non-scary way. It shows you that you can change little things to help the planet be a better place for your kids but also gives enough information to help you change quite a lot of your lifestyle for the better. It's quite scary how many nasty chemicals there are in what we think of as safe everyday products around the house, so worth knowing about.

Brilliant book! Helpful, suppotive, funny and helpful (I know I said helpful twice - that's because it IS REALLY helpful).

I've been trying to lead the Green life (mostly failed) and we're starting to plan for the imminent arrival of our child so I wanted to go Green as much as possible. Eco Baby not only has ideas and suggestions, it also lists suppliers who can provide, for example, sustainable wood cots, non-petrolium-based paints, natural, organic clothes, linnen and, yes, nappies (Not sure how long I'll hold out against disposables, but at least I know where to get the best).

It's also really easy to find your way around it and it's full of humor.

It's written by a mum and it shows - it makes sense all the way.

Can't recommend it enough!
