What a wonderfully comforting book. It puts into words all the amazingness and scariness of being a mother. As I read it I kept saying "yes!" "oh I thought it was only me who thought that!" " thank god I am not the only one". There are hundreds of books about development of babies but this is the only one I found about the development of mothers. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It won't tell you what to do, but it will provide great reassurance about the incredible job you are doing as a mother, even when it feels like your best efforts are coming to nothing.

I found this a great book to dip into when the day had been tough. very reassuring, especially on "tiredness is normal, and a sign that you are doing a good job"

Best book ever! Every new mother should read this, IMO. I found it wise, thoughtful, fascinating but most of all incredibly kind in its outlook and unstinting in its support for mothers. I read it when my daughter was 8 weeks old and it made me cry and cry (in a good way, with recognition and amazement). It still makes me shed a little tear in some parts nearly two years later. I have reread it dozens of times when I feel I need a bit of reassurance. I can't recommend it highly enough and would have given it 11 out of 10 if I could!

I loved this book. It is gentle and honest and loving. It is great to have someone writing about the invisible comforting work that mums do and the incredibly complex decisions that we make! I also loved the description of trying to do the shopping while entertaining your baby - and her point that instead of feeling like we fail at shopping, we could think that we succeed at doing two complex things at once!
