David Cameron on whether The Thick of It accurately represents the Conservative publicity machine: "I love The Thick of It. V funny... but only true about the other lot (not)."

I read this when my first baby was about 2 months old, and it made me feel totally inadequate - nothing she suggests worked for my baby - she hated being picked up and put down, she didnt ever just 'cry' or 'fuss' she always screamed. It was impossible to follow her so-called routine of eat, activity, sleep when breastfeeding because most breastfed babies go to sleep on the boob, and it would be madness to wake them. No help at all for us - more a hindrance as it gave me hope I could get a routine, but it just made things worse. Some babies just arent suited to routines like this.

Really enjoyed this book. Bought it a bit late (DD now 6 months old) and wish I'd had it earlier to reassure me that what I was doing was actually okay. Nice bit of routine but not to structured although I didn't try to implement it when my LO was tiny so can't really say how well it works. Really liked the definition of different personality types for babies rather than the one-size-fits-all approach that some other books take.

Contrary to most opinions I HATED this book. I ended up burning it in the garden when DS1 was 5months! I found the way it was written smug and simpering. The sugestion to walk around the house when you bring baby home from the hospital saying 'and this is the kitchen where I kiss daddy when he comes in from work ready for his nutritious meal' made me gag. as usual with this type of book it oversimplifies babies. It is impossible to fit all babies into one of her types. She tells you that they need to sleep every 3 hours etc but not how to achieve this if your baby wakes afetr 20minutes or will only sleep in a pram. There is no sugestion that you follow your own instincts or be led by your baby.

Very very useful book. Describes a easy to implement, flexible approach that is a sensible middle ground between the more extreme views in other books that I read.

This was a great book and I wish I'd read it first time around. Reading it through during my second pregnancy I saw many tips which would have come in useful previously. All went out of the window when the twins turned up though!
