I thought it was great - she has a gentle approach which suited us with our daughter (strangely, we were firmer with our son, but that probably says more about us....) but she does give guidance on routines (how often babies are likely to want to feed, sleep etc,) and for a new mum with a not a clue those charts were a very useful guide.

A book with a lot of sensible ideas, along with another from the smae author - 'The Baby Whisperer Solves all your Problems'
It's a middle of the road strategy - not as rigid as Gina ford, but with more structure than Sears, that would suit many parents.
It's tone is a bit over familiar, and slightly partonising at times, but overall, she talks sense and her methods work.

Very 'comfortable reading' whilst pregnant and very easy to refer to after birth. Sensible practical suggestions easy to put into practice. A great book especially for first time mums but am sure that it will be useful for the next one...whenever that will be !

This was an intriguing book - it made me understand just how clever babies are and gave me an insight as to how my baby was really feeling

I'd recommend this to all first-time mums - if only for the wonderful chart that tells you how to interpret your baby's different cries!
There's no dictatorial timetable, and although Hogg is slightly over-evangelical about her EASY (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You time) routine, it is definitely easier to put in place and much more flexible than others I've seen.
Most of all, this book helped me trust my own instincts as a mother. It's got lots of advice about learning to understand your baby and respond to their needs.
