The gift of a cordless phone came to us via Mumsnet (I was chosen to test a Plantronics handsfree headset that connects to your phone). Best thing ever. If you get a good one, they work up to 150 metres from the phone point.

could not go back to a 'traditional' phone after having a cordless. You don't know what you're missing until you have one.

An ideal gift for new parents and probably something they hadn't thought about.

A good quality cordless phone - this has been a godsend to us, although we bought it ourselves! If you can find one that you can easily keep to your ear without holding it, so much the better! This gadget meant I could feed Sonny and answer the phone without moving him, or carry on in the kitchen whilst chatting. Probably the best thing for new parents, I think.

"Not an obvious choice until you have a baby of your own and been pinioned to the sofa for what seems like hours while the phone rings off the hook just out of arm's reach." "It was the best present we bought ourselves!" "It saves time and angst for frazzled new parents". "When they start crawling or toddling you can follow them around whilst still speaking and see what mischief they are getting up to." "I couldn't have survived the endless breastfeeding in the first few weeks without it."
