My dad got us a fisher price swing when my second child was born 18 months after the first. It was a life saver when trying to do the bath/bed routine (and we got a few hot dinners in). Not so useful after the first 4 months, although the older one did enjoy swinging in it and it still works so thats got to be good?!

I was given one by a friend and it was a lovely gift. Ds didn't like the bouncy chair but would happily stay in this. Definately an optional extra but a lovely gift.

When I had dd1, the people I worked with collected and bought a swing, it was something I wouldn't have bought myself but was a real godsend. Both my dd's loved it and it's suitable from birth to 12 months.

This is a lovely piece of kit IF it is wanted/needed. There might not be enough room for it. The parents might not need to put the baby down. I have a Fisher-price folding one and it is really handy but until I had two close together I would not have wanted one.
It works up to 3 or 4 months, and is a possible alternative to an activity gym if babies get lots of floor time for other reasons.
