We have a a baby's first year photo album for each daughter and now that they are 4 and 2 it's lovely for them to look back and see how they developed in their first year-a sound, useful gift.

My friend brought me a beautiful 'Baby's First...' photo album with spaces for photos and recording first words/friends/crawl,etc and it's all so exciting to think what you've got to look forward to! She also brought luxury ready meals from M&S which probably saved my life!

Take my advice, so many people will have thought of the very same thing so that new parents will be inundated with photo albums and photo frames. If you must, buy a large wooden classical one that they can hang over the fireplace so all and sundry can coo over the little pink wriggly thing.

Try to find a soft cloth one so baby can love it too - M&S have been known to do one
