Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

This is a gorgeous book from the head chef at the 2 Michelin starred restaurant, "Pied a Terre". It is full of fresh and exciting dishes, accompanied by gorgeous photography.

The recipes in the book are arranged as follows: nibbles and snacks; quick and easy; simple and satisfying; food for groups; and posh. Each recipe has additional detail on how to scale it up into a main meal, or a tart, or a pasta dish - for example, "Crispy pork belly with apple and frisee salad" is also shown as a main or a canapé.

This is a great addition to your culinary library!
