I so much enjoyed 'The Rotter's Club' and 'What a Carve Up!' by this author - vivid stories,,full of wit and insight. In contrast 'The Rain Before It Falls' feels like a dumbed down version of his writing, written to order for a female readership. As a novel it is not bad, but it seems so passionless and empty compared with his other novels, so it disappointed me big time.
