Subtly (yet occasionally laugh out loud) funny, Jasper Fforde is the perfect compromise for parents with no attention span / energy for reading who don't want to be completely reduced to chick lit.

Latest in the 'Thursday Next' series, this is IMHO back to the standard of the first book and way better than #3 - and also features Thursday Next dealing with the challenges of being a WOHM. However, if you haven't read the others, start with The Eyre Affair.

Should also be compulsory reading for anyone living in Swindon!
