Wonderful, life affirming books - officially aimed at kids, but more than enough to keep an adult thinking, imo. Beautifully written, fabulous plots, and absolutely gripping emotional stories. Anyone who doesn't sob through the last chapter of the last book is a stronger woman than I am.

Now a super hyped film - 'The Golden Compass' (the first book only)

The best books I've read for years - and originally written for children!!!! You can completely lose yourself in Pullman's pages. The twists and turns are amazing and every page is more exciting than the last.

I cried reading the whole last chapter of the final book, not only because of what was happening in the story but because I knew that once I finished it, that was it.

An excellent, enthralling superbly written sci-fi which your children will love too.

I can't pick out just one of these, it needs to be the three really. They are marketed as "children's" books, but they are so much more than that. Yes, children would enjoy it in its more simple terms, but there is so much more to it. A fabulous story about love, growing up, good and bad, what makes us human, and so much more besides.

These books make me happy, they make me sob, but they are incredible.
