Classics of the future. When I read these books I immediately thought of the pleasure my kids would get from them in years to come. Wonderful depth of imagination. These books can be enjoyed as adventures in their own right for younger children but also contain fairly dark themes for more mature readers. It's an overused description in book reviews, but this trilogy truly is a masterpiece.

These three novels are a better read for adults than even the Harry Potter books in my opinion. Overall, I prefer the first book - The Golden Compass - but I am so glad I read them all.
The adventure is gripping and thoughtfully written with lots of ideas to mull over.
I know these books are aimed at children, but I think the subtleties of the story and its description of growing up, is more suited to secondary school ages.

Excellent books but I did have to read some of it twice to allow it to sink in. (I put this down to reading it too late into the night and falling asleep!)
A really good read. Would recommend it to both children an Adults.
