A total delight to read. The perfect romance with wonderful comedy. There is no better way to escape. I have needed to mature to fully appreicate this book. It was nothing special when I was forced to study it at school -now in my 30s I can fully appreciate it - and cant help but laugh out load. Some parts are so beautifully romantic that I find my toes curling! Combine it with an indulgent 6 hr session of watching the BBC Colin Firth adapatation, a tub of maltesers and you will be in heaven. Nappies, washing, school runs, work seem miles away. Who needs valium?

Absolutely the best book ever!!! The characters are deep and you can feel the tension from how the author writes.

Tis a truth universally acknowledged that a woman in procession of a bit of time must be in want of a good book. And this has is all, love, lust and scandal. The BBC adaptation was good but nothing beats a good read. It's a gentle wander through a past time when manners and class distinction prevail but for all that the relationships between people are the same as they are today. Worth putting your feet up wit a cup of tea and a big box of chocs and just wallowing.
