I never read this book until I reached my 60s. What have I been missing ? I thought it would be stuffy and hard but it was pure joy.

I agree that this has to be the best book ever. It's best read slowly and thoughtfully, that way the charecters really come to life. Jane Austen had such a forward looking approach, she was born way ahead of her time.

I love this book, having been forced to read Austen as part of English studies at school I began to understand what the hype was about and having read P&P I now couldn't be without it. Its just a wonderful escape for the daily grind with fabulous characters and gripping plot with a lot of humour and human observation. I love it - though didn't think much of the recent TV twist on this classic tale!

Even when forced to read it for O Level I thought the book was OK. It just gets better every time I read it again. Like a favourite bar of chocolate and a glass of champagne!
